360 ate my game

I was playing PGR 3 and i slightly nudged the system. The system barely moved at all
and the 360 ate the disc. It put some deep ass scratchs into the disc. I called microsoft and they basically said it was my fault was touching the system while it was on. Microsoft service rep told me to return it to the store that I bought it from and the store might exchage it at there discretion. The question is whats gamestops stance on this ? What exactly do I say to the gamestop employe about what happend to the game. Do you think gamestop will take it back and give me a new copy ?
 
Man o man... I think you are up the creek without a paddle on this one. The story you tell the sales rep isn't half as important as whether or not the sales rep gives a shit. Chances are you are SOL. Good luck though.

One question, what were you doing so close to your console? I keep mine on a well ventilated shelf, far away from prying eyes and careless bodies...
 
Call Microsoft back and tell them the same story except this time you didn't touch the system. You aren't going to have any luck returning it to Gamestop unless you lie and say that the disc was scratched when you bought it.
 
i had the sytem sitting on a wooden chair a few feet in front of me next to the tv. I was going to put it in place where xbox is sitting but hadn't gotten around to unplugging the xbox. . I walked over to the tv to turn the vol down and i bumped the 360. The hit was so minor that it really didn't cross my mind that anything could have happened. It was when i tried to play online that I got an error msg and decided to look at the disc.
 
If nothing else works try getting it resurfaced at Gamecrazy. I think its only $1 if your aren't an MVP member.
 
When I was a kid (probably 13 or 14) I bought a cd. At the time I didn't really take care of them too well. Well the next day I went out with my cd player and stuck just the cd in my pocket and it got scratched heavily. It skipped like crazy. So I went back to the store (the wall, later bought by FYE) and told them it was all scratched up when I bought it. The guy said "wow, this is really banged up" then gave me a new one.

So you have a shot, especially if you just bought the game.

How do you position your console, horizontally or vertically?

You really should look into a more permanent home for your 360, especially since it is NOTORIOUS for eating game discs. A chair just isn't going to cut it.

Personally, I feel Microsoft should replace your game disc. This problem was never an issue with previous disc based, slot-loading consoles and it shouldn't be now.
 
I have the system laying down horizontally. After i saw what the 360 did to the disc, I moved xbox and put 360 in its place. Thats what i told microsoft tech guy. I said this is the 1st game system i have every seen do this. How could microsoft not notice this when they were testing the system in development.He replied by saying something like its the way the dvd drive is positioned in the console. Iam going to call microsoft back again and tell them i didn't touch the system and it ate the disc. I hope they can do somthing for me.

if you have already called before and given them personal info...ie, name, address, phone number, serial number of the console, they probably noted in their computer system that it was your fault for damaging the disc.....if you didnt tell them this already, then lie to them and hopefully get a new disc out of them...

...if you did give them personal info....you could try for the hell of it again, or just try your luck at a game store or getting it resurfaced.....

...if all else fails, trade it into a store for credit and rebuy the game at a slight loss to you....sure, someone else may get stuck with the game...or the store may get stuck with it....but at least you might get a new disc....

Well, since there's point in trying to return it to GS (who knows when you'll get a replacement) do what others have said but don't say you nudged your system. They probably thought that you hit it fairly hard...

Just don't mention it. From what I hear, MS is very good replacing 360s and the 360's biggest problem seems to that it eats discs.

But if you already told them all the details and they'll know if you call again, you're screwed.
 
you could always purchase the game from best buy and spend $3 to get their video game limited warranty, take back the scratched one and you will have two new copies. Sell one on CAG and you will only be out like 10-15 bucks.

Take it back to GameStop, with your receipt, and say that it was scratched. You didn't say that you scratched it... so you're not lying. If they ask how it was scratched, though, say that it was off of the DVD spool on the inside of the case.
 
Similar thing happened to a buddy of mine, except his was standing vertically and got knocked down while it was being played. Disc got mangled bad!
 
Shouldnt have said anything about you touching the system. As for gamestop, tell them you never checked the disk condition, but it never started, and your other 360 games work fine.

...go to another store, say you got it for xmas but you already had it...and ask if they will switch you for another game....then you would have 2 new games instead of 1 beat to hell game....
 
I worry about d-skins melting in the 360. it doesn't get super hot, but more hot than most disc reading systems..
 
i dont know what all this talk and shit is, guys? Take this damn game back to GS and say it doesn't work and you want a new copy? How old is your receipt? IF anything go rent one from blockbuster or get one from Hollywood video and BOOM exchange your disc sucka, and GET IT OFF A CHAIR THATS WHAT WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT YOU LAZY NERD! :D

My PS2 ate a DVD disc one time. Luckily it was just Viva La Bam, not one of my good movies.
 
Remember when you could, like, drop a Genesis on the floor, kick it, drop a brick on it...and keep your game of ThunderForce III going the whole time?
 
Just say that the case was broken on the inside (break it if its not) and it was loose inside its case. Say you opened it just incase it was inserts making the rattling noise, you opened it saw it scratched and want a new one.

I meant that it wasn't a chronic problem as it seems to be with the 360. I'm so paranoid about my 360 dying that I'm actually going to purchase the added warranty. The issues that have surfaced thus far combined with the legendary Thompson (or was it samsung?) drive issues of the Xbox leave me with little faith in Microsoft's hardware prowess.
 
I might try that bestbuy trick. I called Microsoft and told them the system ate the disc while i was playing it. That I heard a grinding noise while racing in PGR 3. He took all my info including cc info and basically told me its their policy not to excahnge games. That theres nothing he can do and iam shit out of luck. I asked him if there was anything he could please do to help me. He said nope that his hands r tied and that he cant go around policy. So I said is it also your policy to sell broken ass hardware and screw people over. He just said sorry. So now leaves me two options. Bestbuy or going over to gamestop. Iam going to call gamestop and tell them i bought the game for a christmas present and was scratced to hell. My only concern is when i take the game in, he will see the type of scratch on the disc and know it made by the 360 and not by the game rattling in the case.
 
Two things....
First, don't follow the advice of the "rent it from Blockbuster and swap it", "trade it in so someone else is stuck with it" dumbasses. That's just wrong on so many levels. For one it's stealing, two, they will be the first ones here yelling about how they got fucked buying a used 360 game.

Second, if you have a few stores in the chain you bought it from in your area, you might actually get someone who's cool with helping you out. If one doesn't want to help, try another store or even another day at the same one when someone else is working.
Just be calm and collective about it, I've found you get further that way. Much further than being an ass and kicking over the magazine rack. :)
Being close to Christmas with all the exchanges and such, along with this being a known problem, those two things could probably work well in your favor. And they will know you are lying about getting a brand new 360 disc with a circular scratch. Best thing is to be honest, would you believe that story? You'll probably just piss them off.

Sorry that happened to you, but as it's already been suggested, you really should have that thing somewhere stationary before playing it. Also, it really does suck, because it looks better standing on it's side, and while it was "designed" to do either or, discs have never done well vertical. Atleast not in my experience.

Hope all works out for you, I know that really must suck.

It was Thompson, the other 2 disc drive brands were fine. I'm not too worried about the 360 drive though cause despite the fact that after a long time they would completely go out, I had minor problems with disc errors with my original drive almost from the beginning. I have probably put about 80-100 hours on my 360 (not counting DVDs) and not one single time has it had a disc error or has it even froze up or anything.

I had two PS1 machines, both skipped within about a year, had to do the ol' take it apart and turn the pot trick.
Had my PS2 since launch, had disc read errors from it, but I think they were so few, I got lucky apparently, after hearing many others including my neighbor having horrible issues with theirs.

The original XBox nor 360 is any different from the past few consoles, especially at launch. They will get it right, just like Sony. Can't say I have had a bit of trouble from Nintendo, go figure.
And anybody who buys a piece of electronics above say 100 bucks, and doesn't buy the warranty, is asking for trouble. I just figure it into the cost of what I'm buying.
