360 only $300 by turkey day??

We have ballpark figures confirmed for both consoles then...

360 will be "around" $300, and PS3 will be "under" $400. Sounds to me like the PS3 will cost more.
If it is $300 or $350 with a HD that would be so nice.
Yeah, if the Xbox 360+HD is released for $350, that would be very nice...;)

I remember something about a product named Saturn that was around that price, and we know how that went...

and that is EXACTLY the same system and launch as the 360, thus, the outcome will be exactly the same..................or something.

Launch price comes very low on the list of reasons why the Saturn failed. Considering there was nothing except the early bad version of Virtua Fighter (so bad US residents received the Remix version free on request) the Saturn moved over 400,000 units almost immediately. For that era it was a hell of a lot of machines for one game. Essentially a nearly $500 home Virtua Fighter system, after you add in a second controller.

If Sony hadn't had such an excellent strategy for winning over retailers the Saturn might have dominated the generation, warts and all. But Sony had done their homework and found some serious weaknesses in how the competition did business and leveraged that as much as possible in ways only they could due to their position in CD manufacturing. The ability to micromanage software inventory on a weekly basis made Japanese retailers love Sony and promote it heavily to further their interests. That further encouraged developers to put their strength behind the PS1, which they'd already found vastly easier to use for 3D work. Once Sony owned Japan everything else was inevitable.
don't forget because of our good friend inflation, $399 back in 95 when the saturn was released would be a shade under $500 today.

You too can play around with what systems and games would cost today using an inflation program such as: http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
Isn't that amazing how that works?
Anyone notice at ebgames.com that the prices per 360 games are 59.99 instead of the more common 49.99????
Welcome to two months ago.

That's because Bill Gates has $50 billion. He can just substitute the wad of hundreds he uses to wipe his ass for Charmin, and pay his people the difference.

What's the big deal about only one system version? If you don't have HD then you don't use it, but if you do then it's sweet, right?

If the majority of users don't have an HD, then developers will have less incentive to make HD content.

All 3 manufacturers know that $300 is the magic number for a console release. A console released at a higher price point isn't guaranteed to tank but it would definitely contribute to it.
Sounds good to me :D

But I too was under the impression that 20 gb was standard
Aren't they just laptop HDs anyway? If such is the case I can slap in an 80 gig for about 40 dollars.

OTOH, knowing Microsoft, it would make my 360 Blue Screen every microsoft product in a 30 mile radius.

Yahtzee.

epobirs (from an old thread) has real expectations that an optional HDD could be worthwhile, but it can also go the other way fairly easily.

I just want short load times.

The 20GB HDD is standard. There is a rumored 40 and 60GB upgrade though. I wonder how they'll handle that as far as transferring content.

This launch does have me concerned, a bit. No date, no price, no launch titles, no accesory info, no gaming prices. We're supposed to be 4 months from launch? Wow, just wow.

What do you need to know about it? We know that it will have a wireless i-net adaptor, wireless controllers that you can plug in to the system to recharge, and still play. Gears of War, (hopefully) Perfect Dark Zero, and other launch titles, just check ebgames.com or something. Its not like we don't know *anything* about it. 4 months is a long time. I can barely wait as it is, if I knew everything about it now, I may burst. Also, if we find out everything now, how will we be excited later, when it is closer to launch?

Gears of War is not a launch title. It is stated some time mid-late 2006.
