360 price drop "imminent"?

Yes, makes sense to me. I feel the only reason why Sony announced and dropped the price of their PS3 TODAY is because MS has a press release tomorrow night while Sony's does not happen until the next day. Sony does not want to public to see them as being forced to lower the price because of MS so they did it today instead.

$199 Core would be SWEET, but $249 is still OK. Hopefully the 120GB HDD will see a price drop as well s the 20GB. I have an Elite and no 120GB....but will get one eventually.

$200 core with GTA IV and Halo 3 would dwarf Wii sales in comparison.

$50 price drop is way too little. It's been nearly two years, it's definitely time for a $100 price drop.

THe $400 market has been saturated enough. Microsoft needs to drop in to the $300 market, and advertise the $200 core like crazy to also get the best of the $200 market.

They can still be making (or at least not loosing any) money with a $200 core and $300 premium.

I find that to be pretty crazy. Time sure does fly.

And I was hoping for a $300 Premium...oh well, I'm sure some way to do that will show up eventually with some sort of coupon code or something.
Only $50? I'm starting to think MS really doesn't want to "win" this generation.
Maybe they're losing way too much money trying to fix all the broken 360 to afford a bigger price drop.

don't forget the new 3yr warranties.. they are losing a bunch of money on that as well..

Maybe they should have learned from Sony after all the psx and ps2 problems and made their consoles durable the first time.

I tell ya, I'm really starting to wonder how MS became such a successful company.

hmmmm, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. These price-points could bring Microsoft even closer to the "playstation 2" of this generation.

I would like to cash in my BB warranty for a model with a Ben Q dvd drive and $50, but I should just be happy my 360 still works :)
they should just get rid of the core. There is no need for that anymore
The core was a huge mistake in the first place, all it does is limit developers. They really can't abandon it now, it would generate a huge amount of bad publicity and pissed owners. Pretty much damned if they do and damned if they don't.

The core is fine at 250. The premium at 350 is stupid! 400 for an elite is a steal. They should remove the premium edition. It doesn't do anything special the elite does. if you are going to get a premium it should include something else b/c for the 50 more its worth it for hdmi, 100 more gigs and a system less likely to crash.

If they dont drop it now, they wont drop it until H3. So either it will happen at E3, or we will be waiting a couple months for the drop.

I'd say they currently are.
The core was a huge mistake in the first place, all it does is limit developers.
The core doesn't limit developers. There's no system difference between the core and the premium, the only difference is the accessories included. If you're talking about limiting in the sense that there's no HD included, they're going to make the game anyway. You could also flip that statement if you're talking about the HD, and say that the premium limits developers because the elite has a 120gb hd. If nothing else, the core nets MS more $ from people eventually buying a hard drive and wireless controller.
those numbers don't make sense...the core would drop $100, the elite about $80 and the premium only $50
no the core is dropping only $50

They became a successful company by following a strict code of business ethi....hehehahahahhahah...no ...I'm sorry...hehehahahahahahaha

The elite at $400 is a great price but I agree, no one will buy a $350 premium system. They should lower that down to $300.

As soon as i heard of the $500 ps3 i thought to myself

$350 premium
$250 core

no change in elite at all

The elite systems are still kind of hard to come by in stores, you would have to be retarded to do a price drop on an item that can barely stay on the shelves.

If core does drop to $250, then they could get a share of the wii market(people looking to go next gen at a cheap price). They might be better off just getting rid of the core like the 20 gig ps3 tho.

I think they should get ride of the core and make the 20 GB harddrive around $50. Anyone who bought the core could upgrade to the HD for cheap and wouldn't feel screwed.

Core at $399
Prem at $299 seems like a good deal to me.

They won't get rid of the core, as they wanted to be the first to $150. That is where the consoles move a lot of units.

I hope this is true. Come on! I'm dying without a 360!

If these prices come true, I'll probably end up spending $400 anyway since it will be a better deal and only $50 more.

The difference from the core and the 20GB PS3 is that MS probably makes more money selling cores because those people have to buy a memory solution, headset if they want to use Live, and maybe HD cables in the future.

I think the core will stick around just to tout it as being cheaper and for the acces. sales.

Won't happen. MS is taking a bath over the backlash from broken 360s, and they are still, after Sony's pricedrop, $100 cheaper than the PS3 (save for the Elite).

They're fine where the are, pricewise, and, frankly, can't afford to lose more money. If they were going to drop the price, they would have done so when they put out the release last week apologizing for selling us highly unreliable systems.

They are surely thinking twice about it now because of Sony, but it won't hurt them if they don't drop it. In fact, it will hurt less.

MS looks to make a Premium look like a tard. I somewhat doubt this, because the Elite just came out and MS is already looking to cut it?? Talk about backstabbing customers. Even worse, their hardware is still atrocious.

MS has already lost $6 billion in Home Entertainment. Dropping the price hurts their chances more of a profit.

They have to cut the elite too, if not it's too close to the PS3 price point. I still believe they'll drop the prem to 300 bucks. It makes it a hell of a good deal. I think the PS3 will look to good with all the extras (minus the games). With the PS3 you get BR, wireless, and free online. But at 300 bucks the 360 is now only 50 dollars more than the Wii now they would be in that sweet market.

Microsoft dropping the price now...

Peter Moore: "Bye bye money, bye bye"

Here's why: Halo 3 coming, Billion dollar loss, new chipset = increased profit margin for a while.

MS can afford a premium price drop to $300 with the Elite at $400... the Wii is gaining VERY quickly, and with a PS3 price at $500 MS needs to do something drastic. Plus, as the Wii has shown people are willing to pay $250 for a system, so I think the 360 could get a huge sales gain at $300 from mainstream consumers, especially with Halo 3 and GTA IV coming out. GTA IV is going to sell a lot of systems to mainstream consumers, and a price $200 lower than Sony's would get them to buy a 360 instead of PS3.

I second the thought; the core pack was just stupid from a consumer and a developer point of view.
A real shocker would be

Core: gone
Premium: $250
Elite: $350
No, no. Microsoft has decided to pay us to take them off their hands!
Csrew M$. 4-6 weeks wow
Substituting in "$" for the S in Microsoft or "MS" isn't, and wasn't ever funny, original, or clever. Not to mention the rest of your post doesn't make sense. From now on, please make posts that contribute to CAG in a positive manner.

Now then, I think even though $50 isn't much, it makes the gap in price between the PS3 and the 360 big enough to continue to view the PS3 as the very high-end product. If the PS3 had been only $100 more from the beginning, it wouldn't get all the flak it has, but at $150 more, it still seems like a whole lot.

EDIT: Oh, 4-6 weeks is related to the shipping time for repairing a 360. Way to throw irrelevant fanboyism into your post. Plus, when I shipped in my Gamecube and DS in for repair to Nintendo, they both took 5-6 weeks. So what's your point?

Yeah, it makes little sense for the Elite to drop MORE than the other 2 SKUs. If the Elite drops $80 it only makes sense for the other two to drop $100. Or if they drop $50 then the Elite drops $50 as well (so $429.99), or possibly just $30 to $450.

And I'm not just saying that because I bought an Elite with a now utterly useless 2 year extended warranty from Gamecrazy for $520 :bomb:.

(Though it makes me feel much better that I totally took advantage of them with the 50% bonus trade-in deal a few weeks back ).

IMO it would make most sense to drop the 3 version platform. Offer the bare bones (Core) and the pimped-out Elite (replacing the Premium)

I hope to fucking god they drop the price of the elite tmro...my 360 just died on me a 2nd time, and I was hoping to get best buy to allow me to use my insurance, and get the elite version instead.

Does anyone know if they best buy will let you upgrade, while using the insurance I bought? I called my local one 2 x, and both times I got a different answer

Here's my out-there guess, just to be different:

Elite doesn't drop. Instead, it gets discontinued. It was supposed to be a limited run, right? Maybe it could go to $450, just to get away from the PS3.

Premium either drops to $350, gets HDMI, and keeps the 20GB hard drive, or stays the same and gets HDMI and the 120 GB drive. Basically a white Elite at $400, while the analog Premiums disappear. I'm suggesting this because there have always been rumors about HDMI in normal 360s. It stays "Premium" instead of Elite just so the people that bought elites don't feel ripped off.

Core drops to $250. Of course, that would leave a big gap between he "new" Premium and the Core... I'm glad I'm not the one that has to figure this crap out.

Anyway, all that would work better around November, after Falcon has rolled out (maybe?) and the Elite has had a 6 month run.

I really don't think that lowering the prices $50 would sell that many more 360's for some reason. If they lowered them all $100 then I think I would have to jump on board, but then again thats just me.

it would be a little better if MS can throw in 2 or 3 games. A $50 discount cant even get 3 PH games.
