I emailed tigerdirect almost 2 weeks ago asking whether their refurbs are covered by the 3 year warranty, I never got a response.

Yes, refurbs are covered by the MS warranty. I've got a refurb, which I registered on xbox.com, and it says it is still under warranty. At the VERY LEAST, refurbs are covered until three years from the manufacture date. I would bet you could get 3 years from purchase if you sent MS support a copy of the receipt, but that's not any kind of guarantee on my part.
