4 free XBL Arcades games with purchase of a new 360 console (Works with any vendor)

If I haven't registered mine yet (launch console), would I be able to still get in on this? Or will they be able to tell by the registration number that it wasn't bought recently?

As far as I can tell from the email, you only need to register your Xbox360. They say it has to be purchased between certain dates, but there's no way they could tell when you bought your system. You should be able to take advantage of this.

Thanks for combining the threads. I would have found this one if the search function wasn't crapping out :)

hey guys,

just wanted to say I just registered my console. I just bought the 360 actually, new Live Gold account and everything.

so, I should qualify for sure. I'll update if I get the tokens.

this is the pasted text from the registration site after I submitted everything:

"Registration Successful. Thank you for participating!

Microsoft will verify your entry and, if valid, you will receive an email with the tokens for your free Xbox Live® Arcade games on or before February 15, 2007."

:bomb:

Well I tried registering, got to the page where I put in my console's serial number, filled everything out and hit Continue, and now I just get a blank page titled "Xbox Global Registration" with

on it.

Whee.
I was going to register but there is no spot to put my serial number, only a spot for my gamertag
You need to register your serial number to the gamertag.

Anyone get their codes yet?

I added works with any vendor to the title since people may not be aware that this is an incentive from microsoft to drive console purchases, and that this deal will work with any other console deal people can find. I think this works fine with a new Silver Account too.

yea same here. just signed up today. am I in or what?

I just bought mine... my live ID was carried over from my original Xbox (ID set up in August), and the registration on this site gave me no problems.

No tokens yet, though.

Same here, I imagine we aren't, either the site is overloaded or taken down is my guess.

I bought my xbox 360 last week and I wanna get on this deal, but I'm too afraid of possibly bricking my system with the fall update >_

it's a long drive to irvine. i also really dont have much of a need for playing online and updating. I got the system solely on playing games. This is why i'm giving the middle finger to Sony's PS3. it's only a 7 day return/exchange policy in Microcenter and i'm already on the 11th day. Yeah, call people a dumbass. I hate how people are such asses to others online just because they're in front of a computer. You'd get socked in the face for talking like that in person. But I guess i shouldn't be surprised. Assholes like you are so common on the internet and unhelpful in the forums.

The system will get updated automatically sooner or later when you use a new game. I'd just do it now while it's under warranty and you can probably still exchange it at the store.

I know what you mean about jerks though. I've been amazed by the responses I've gotten on a thread on here.

EDIT: Oh, and I wouldn't worry much about it wrecking your system. I don't think that's very common. I mean basically the power would have to go out, or there'd have to be a problem with the flash RAM for it to fail. It's probably pretty uncommon for it to cause problems.

The chances of it having issues after the fall update is pretty small. It's a september 9 2006 model. I just dont want to take the risk. The exchange and return period for microcenter is only 7 days. I will still have warranty with MS yes, but I dont want the hassle of having to pack the thing and sending it off to MS and spend some money for shipping in addition to not having a console to play with. I have Gears of War, and that is a recent game which didn't force me to update.

The fall update was supposedly for having the system output 1080p. But I've heard that the system actually gets some issues with the GPU changing drivers or a part of the hardware overheating resulting in the rings of death. I'm not really sure, but I did not bother to read 64 pages(over 1800 replies) on this one thread in the xbox.com forums. This special topic was pulled by MS and was specially moved into the wish/feedback forum away from support as if MS is trying to cover up this fiasco. There has already been people filing a class action suit. Try going to the forums and post anything relating to the FALL UPDATE, and it won't last a few minutes on the support forums. It's very heavily moderated around this time.

I dont really see any XBL arcade games I really want. And all I want to do is play off line for now. I dont really plan on getting the gold live account until next year, so I'm ok for now. By then, there will be a really good update that is well checked in QA standards. MS just doesn't want to be embarrassed by Sony after trying to trumph them with their 1080p claims.

^They fixed the fall update so there is nothing to worry about now, go ahead and update it. I had mine bricked by the update, returned it and after they fixed it, it updated fine.

I think I will have to try this now that I have a different console with a different Serial #, but I have to make a new xbox live account?

I just purchased an XBOX 360 this past Saturday, and the Fall update bricked my system. I took it back to Gamerush and got my money back.

If you check out the forums on xbox.com, you'll see that this is not an isolated incident. It has hapened to many people.

For what it's worth, my system (which I recently acquired through the Overstock deal, thanks to CAG) has a September 7 2006 manufacture date, and I have not encountered any issues after downloading the fall update.

sorry to make this off topic. I just want to help people here get informed so we're all happy about our xbox 360 purchases. here is the link to the BIG thread in xbox.com forums:

http://forums.xbox.com/65/7864073/ShowPost.aspx#7864073

the update was in the last day of October.
you have a september 7 system, that's cool. But That won't make me still try it, because it could be hardware specific. like, it' could be because you got a samsung disc drive while mine is another brand. There is still no evidence of what the real cause is and where specifically. I do know it's mostly from launch and first few months systems in 2005. It's easy for me to be patient about it and pass on this 4 free xbox live arcade games. but It's not easy for people who have been really really pissed off at Microsoft. I'm sure some of you know what it's like to go through hassles and frustration when dealing with trying to get a warranty repair from a company. In this case, the company with an update online is the one that breaks your system and forces you to pay 140$ to repair it. At the same time, they're trying to cover up their BIG BOO BOO by hiding the thread from the support forum section.

I'm hoping MS will have the major fix by january which is around the time this special promotion will end. I still wouldn't mind having the 4 free xbox live arcade games.

i guess i'm okay then. this thread is the first time i've heard about it, and amongst several friends and family, none of us has had any problems. i have a launch-week unit, as does my brother. guess we dodged a bullet. thanks for the info, 400.

I am 95% sure the problem was that the systems did not have the spring update on them already as it was people like myself getting old consoles back from repair (they send you a different console) or people picking up old ones off the shelves.

They have now said they have fixed the problem with the update and all should work fine. I don't know how it bricked screwkick's and I would out right call him a lier if it were not for his gamer tag.

yeah me too...i didn't get an email confirmation either
Same problem using Mozilla AND Opera... Damn blank screen.
i tried with ie, just to be safe...still nothing.

I wonder what Microsoft will do if their update kills an out of warrenty 360? You can't refuse the update, so it seems like they should take responsibility for it...

You can't avoid the update though. Sooner or later you will get it, either from connecting it online, or from playing a new game that installs it. You might as well install it sooner IMO (and installing it from the net might be safer as it could be a newer version than one from a game).

I'll try it this weekend. I bought it in the timeframe and was unaware of this offer, but it sounds completely worth a try, right?

Not to go off topic or anything, but how do you tell which drive is in your X360? Been wondering about this whole Live issue and which consoles are the ones with the most issues. Mine is from April, 2006 and working great so far. That said, I haven't signed up for XBOX Live yet...

I know the occasional bricking occurs. but you really do have to get the update. Eventually games will force you to, as with PSP firmware. Besides that, the update adds lots of awesome features. If something happens, just take it back. I'll save you the worry though: nothing will happen. Just do it. I've never had any problems with updates myself - and BTW there was one last week, so that's the most recent one.

Actually, I hadn't signed up since I didn't have the wireless network adapter. That said, it just arrived this last afternoon and it took me about an hour and a half or so to install it. Had to get a new firmware for my router. All in all though, I am on Live now...

Tried to register for the free games but the site wasn't working. Will try again soon! :)

This got somewhat off-topic. I have a few comments on-topic:

First, the offer is legit. I got two emails directly from Microsoft on the issue. So, any of you that were worried shouldn't be.

Second, I'm going to try this, although I don't technically fall into the correct timeframe.

Third, those of you getting blank screens aren't alone. I too, am having the same problem. And I think it is because their system is getting hit incredibly hard. I received the same screen a few nights ago when signing up for the Halo 3 beta. Methinks when that dies down, the site will work again.

Oh, and the emails I got had codes "XBXNG2" for three free XBLA games and "XBXNG4" for two free XBLA games.
So, what time would be a good time to try to register? ;)
I would guess when the Halo 3 Beta stuff is over? I don't really know when that is. I've just beeny trying every couple of days.
Yeah, got my 360, so when this works, what games should I even get?
Well, the email says "Microsoft approved" games, or something like that. I would bet they provide a small list to choose from, and you take the best of them. (Game like Lumines probably wouldn't be on that list, since they are more expensive.)

Anyway, there's something totally messed up here and I doubt it's part of the whole Halo 3 beta deal going on. There's no way MS should be having this amount of issues for well over a week. I am starting to think this is their way of not having to pay out, so to speak. How much do you wanna bet it'll work after the expiration date... :D

Seriously though, I guess we'll just have to keep trying to get through and bother them by email if it doesn't start to work soon. :bouncy:
