Anything that seems too good to be true probably is.

Cheap DS and GBA games on ebay are almost definitely bootlegs, whether they're from Hong Kong or not.

I think I remember reading somewhere about fake Chinatown Wars. They were rated E.

Did you buy from a guy in Hong Kong?

yep.
there seems to be crapload of fake ds games on ebay lately.
seems like ebay is just ignoring the issue.
i guess as long as they're getting the seller fees and no one is suing them, then everything is A OK.
how much are you actually waiting to get back?
43 and some change. already got the dispute going with the credit card company

won

2 pokemon games 15.50 and 14.50

the GTA was like 10.49

and
the football game was 4.99

not really sure about all cheap games being bootlegs... I picked up super robot final something for the ds for 22 shipped (18 before shipping) game is real and complete (though no soundtrack)

games shipped from North car.

I know at least another person or two did buy from this seller that is why i wanted to give a heads up

at least the seller was true to their word ... refund was already issued... told me to just toss the games in the trash since they are useless who would want bootlegs

Oh, the irony! :)

Slidecage, you should know better than to get cheap games ($16 or less) from eBay. The other one you mentioned for $20ish and legit breaks that bootleg price barrier.

I wonder how long it will take the dumb bootleggers to start charging more for their junk games to make them seem more authentic. It makes perfect logical sense: too cheap = must be fake, charge more for fake = looks real. :whistle2:$
gamestop will take them lol
yeah, but then other people will have to get bootleg games. don't be a douche and take them to gs.
gamestop will take them lol
Actually, GS employees are supposed to be trained to keep an eye out for fakes... so they probably wouldn't take them.

Actually their pretty dumb. In a dick move on my part a couple months back I traded in a bootleg pokemon emerald for like 20 bucks. The case wasn't even green it was a generic gray with a crappy sticker on the front

I just want to put emphasis on what you just said. I doubt they really are trained.

Plus it doesn't surprise me to see slidecage dumbfully buying DS bootlegs off of eBay from more than likely a suspect eBay seller.

it was an auction type format.. so that is where the prices stopped at... it wasnt a buy it now.. seller pulled all of their Ds games off the site...

i called up a few gamestops and they all said call nintendo cause they could not tell me if the game was fake or not

still dont know what to do with them.. just toss them or just keep them (would never give them to gamestop cause that would just be wrong and karma is a #$#$#$) : )

yeah they will take them. they dont know any better unfortunately. remember those fire red and emerald pokemons most of them at gs's are fakes. even the tactics ogre & minish cap's could also be fakes.

I buy games off Ebay almost all the time and I never get fakes, I choose carefully who I buy from and I look at their feedback and their listings. I am suspect of any sellers who list a load of games at the same time with stock photos. I have also noticed some suspect bidding on certain sellers accounts, those who are selling games, so I avoid those sellers.

This guy probably was honest though, as he admitted to them being fake (and he probably really didn't know), most sellers in china and HK wouldn't even give you a refund or even talk to you if you complained about something like this.

In slidecage's case he said the seller got the games from a big lot of games. I'm willing to bet that seller got the big lot from Hong Kong or China.
check if the auction say the game doesnt work on DSi.
I get buyers on ebay once in a while asking me "does this game work on DSi, I was going to buy from another seller and his didn't, I need to updated version" or something along those lines. Ugh.

As for the seller with the "big lot" of games that he didn't know were fake, go check his auctions, I'll be more than willing to bet that he still has those same games up for sale. The way these sellers work is that they sell 100 or so of the same game that cost them, oh, a couple bucks each (if that)...then out of that 100 or so they get maybe 3-5 people that call them out on them being pirated. Then they pull the "oh ha ha ha I had no idea I got a big lot to sell" card, and they tell you to keep them, and they write it off as the cost of doing business.

So yeah, don't think the person you bought from is automatically mr. nice guy, because he's still peddling his pirated shit, but only to unsuspecting parents, kids and other gamers who have no idea what to look for.

nope they are not selling any ds games anymore. Tons of other crap (ps2 and cube)

another seller pm me sayin they are going to list theirs on ebay as a joke auction.....

said something like

buy this pokemon game for your child and then laugh as your child crys when they find out their game wont save... gag gift for your friends and family.....

Doubt ebay will allow it though. LOL

What is sad though there is probally about 50 to 70 people who got the Pokemon game- grand auto game that left feedback....

QUick shipping or Just got package and will give to kids later or super fast shipping will play later not even knowing they got a bootleg and since they already left feedback they will probally never know they had a bootleg...

only way i knew i had one was

1. the cart looked a little bigger
2.. the sticker was different then the one i already owned

then called up nintendo then they are the ones who said it was fake

You could just list it as a nonworking game and you would probably be safe, as long as you let the buyer know it did not save and there was something wrong with it, if you put bootleg in the auction ebay will probably pull it.

People are so stupid, they leave feedback before even testing the game. I always test the stuff before I leave feedback. Sellers know that most buyers on ebay for games are parents buying for their kids to play so they take advantage of the fact that parents don't know anything about buying and playing games.

there are more and more of these now on eBay from US sellers. more and more newer US sellers are now buying them in bulk from bootleg wholesale peddlers and they are being thrown on to eBay. i actually just wrote eBay a long complaint message this morning about it since now it is becoming more and more of a problem with US sellers and not just Hong Kong or China seller. i even saw a seller that sold Pokemon Quartz and Pokemon Perla for the GBA and the customers bought them and couldnt be happier. of course its not like they know those versions are hacked versions of Pokemon and someone just put them onto a GBA cartridge. getting harder and harder to buy games off ebay now ~_~

Well, they're not doing a very good job, I actually found a backup Kororinpa Marble Mania for the Wii at a Gamestop. How the heck did they miss that one?
I see bootlegs there all the time, don't think they notice or care.
I saw a bootleg GBA Fire Emblem game there last week.

Yeah, Chinatown wars is one of the ones that is bootlegged. You can tell which games are being sold as bootlegs because there will be a bunch of games listed as "DS001" or with other numbers at the end or they will have BIN's just below that of retail cost when you go to search for a game to buy. You will also see a lot of listings from China or HK. Some games they don't bother bootlegging, the ones that don't sell well. So if you are looking for something odd its probably not even being bootlegged. However other games almost every copy is a fake, like Pokemon, Mario or anything that is insanely popular is usually bootlegged because you can make the most money off those titles.

These sellers annoy me, and the times I have contacted Ebay they say that they have no way to tell they are bootlegged. The thing that got me the most was a guy selling a burnt dreamcast disk that had 3 rare games on it as a combo pack. I e-mailed Ebay and they said that it was probably a combo disk I had never heard of. The guy was bringing in as much per week in about 5-10 sales as I was in my weekly pay check!! and all from burnt disks.

i mean, cant they just get it? a little bit of investigation will tell you. i mean how hard is it to tell if its a game thats heavily bootleged on ebay. you got the mario games, and pretty much alot of the first party games are bootleg. and then the gta chinatown wars.. if these are all in the sellers store wouldnt that indicate that theyre bootleg especially when the seller lives in china! theres no point in reporting these auctions anymore since it gets ignored.

Its to the point where I am suspicious of any seller with a large amount of the same game in their store or a large amount of DS games especially with stock photos. I always check to see what other items the person has for sale before I bid. The legit wholesalers usually have more than one type of game (Xbox, PS2, classics etc), and the bootleg sellers tend to have just DS games. I haven't seen Wii bootlegs yet but I am assuming this would be pretty obvious.

As (what should probably be) a rule, this is why I only buy from A) people in North America, and B) people whose listings aren't a gigantic list of bullet points. It's really easy to tell just by looking if you're dealing with a "real person" or a bootlegger. I got Chinatown Wars from a nice lady in New Jersey who also stuffed the box with gigantic bubblewrap. It was like she shipped my game in a pile of toys.
