40% off select Anime titles (7) at BestBuy.com

Thanks op, I don't know about any of these either (though I am intrigued by the Xenosaga one). Always appreciative of the heads up

yeah these are quite new. I recommend Air and Welcome to the NHK among them. I'm somewhat tempted by Magikano at that price...

Didn't really want to get anything, but figured "what the heck" and sprung for AIR TV volume 1. At that price, why not?

On the other hand, now I have to get the rest of the DVDs at some point...
Ehh no boxes = no reason for me to get volume 1 of dvds. I'll wait for boxsets or other sales.
Actually the Collector's art box doesn't come until volume 2. Links below. :bouncy:

I'm actually glad a lot of anime companies (or a select few) are taking this route. Prior to this move (i.e. Volume 2 + Box), series were frequently released with a collector's artbox + volume 1 priced at $35.00 plus or minus.

A certain percentage of anime fans do not even fully know what the show is about and plunge for the purchase because the box and art work on the DVD keep case looks desirably or respectably nice. Turns out, the show is actually sour and there goes $35.00 plus tax (or shipping) down the drain.

By releasing the first volume/installment as stand alone issue reasonably priced (i.e. $20 plus or minus), this saves money for the fans. In other words, the price on Best Buy's website is very reasonably price for new releases. OR you could wait two to three to four years down the line and find them at half the price on ebay.

That is pretty cool of them to do that. Hopefully all the companies follow the trend.

Thanks OP.

lol for a very long time that's how I did it, to a certain extent. I'd actually read reviews about different anime I was interested in, and draw some conclusions from that before buying a particular series. I've only regretted anime purchases like this a couple times (Devil Lady and Gasaraki immediately come to mind), but I've also been very pleasantly surprised by "blind buys" (Escaflowne, Last Exile, Ghost in the Shell, my top 3 favorite anime series ever, were blind buys, complete series sets no less). Of course, now that I have a decent Internet connection, I can watch a couple episodes of different anime online, which is really helpful in determining if I'm going to like an anime or not.

Releasing boxes with the second volume instead of the first is actually a pretty ingenious idea IMO. Hopefully, by the first volume of a series you'll know whether you want to continue buying volumes or sell off the first volume and wash your hands of the series.
