46" Lcd Hdtv

Alright, ive been looking at these 2 in particular:

SAMSUNG LN46A650
AND
SAMSUNG LN46A750

They both have a 50,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio.

I really like the 750's blue streak it has. But anyway, the cheapest 650 I found was at around $1,450 so far. ((With Amazon)) would love to buy from retail stores though new, or open box.

Anyone know if I could find it cheaper? Better to wait until early january and then maybe prices will drop even further for these heavenly LCDs?

You cant go wrong with either one. I just got the one you are looking at : 46-inch Samsung A650 at CC for $1499 + tax last month (kept price-adjusting to their own sale prices) and I got 3 years no interest on it. Thats why I bought it at CC. Anyways I love it and you wont be disappointed, except maybe for the remote. I dont like its layout and the wheel on it often overclicks what I choose. Maybe its my big fingers.
 
Oh I know I cant go wrong on either one, belive me. : D lol.. I just want a slimmer price maybe..dont want to drain my bank account completely now.

Also, is 46" to big for gaming? Like..isnt that harder to see people when your looking center on your screen?

((EXAMPLE: You cant react fast enough compared to a 32" because its more bigger and you have to move your eyes farther..or something like that.))

Im sure that wont be a problem though.

But yes you think the price will go down after December?
 
No, 46" is not too big for gaming. As long as you arent sitting 3 feet in front of the tv. The larger the better, I just couldnt justify $500 more for 6 more inches of screen. Thats why I got the 46". The prices should keep creeping down as the new models are continually released. The only thing is everytime you turn on the tv or go to another input, the tv tells you the resolution and hz the signal is. I dont know how to get the 120 hz or whatever its called to work. I do have that setting turned on. Mine always says the PS3 or 360 is a 60 hz signal. I have a hdmi cable so what else do I need to do? I figured thats one of the features of this tv, so why not use it.

Thats a bit weird..

Sure you have your PS3 set at 1080i or 1080p? My friend was on a real nice Plasma with his PS3 and had it set to 480i the whole time lol

If you have it turned on in the picture options its working. What the tv is showing you is what source its running. You are not getting a 120hz signal, you are getting a 60hz and the TV is converting it for you. So the tv is showing you a correct number.

120hz is not the picture smoothing, thats AMP (Auto motion Plus). 120hz can never be truly turned off on these tvs. So in the menu there is no "120hz settings" yet theres the AMP strength adjusting, low med high.

On a side note its best to use the "Gaming" mode for games rather than AMP. Less input lag that way.

I have the 46650a and I love it. The only difference is that the 750 also has a slot on the side for camera memory cards... Its a clunky laggy system and I use the Wii for that anyways. Good luck
 
1) Prices always go down, and TV's always get better. you could wait forever if you're worried about that
2) The 750 has a red border, not blue.. are you thinking of the 8 series?
The 750 and 650 should have very similar picture quality
3) I have a 750 that I bought in June (from Amazon) and I love it. I got the 750 instead of 650 because I liked the shape of the bezel more and at the time there seemed to be more debate about the difference in picture.. As long as you buy one that's "sold by Amazon" and not one of their partners, they also have very good service.

I just read somewhere and it may be true that PS3 games will only run at a max FPS of 60Hz..

So yes. The 120HZ on the TV the may really, really be a very big help on the Blu-Ray movies though and everything in general..

But this makes me have second thoughts and think about getting the cheapest high contrast best 60Hz HDTV for cheap I can find at 40"-46"

Then again I really do like the 650 an 750.

No, 750 does not have a memory card slot. You might be thinking of its ability to stream videos over the network or from a USB drive, which really is clunky and better left to the PS3 to do.

Also, when you watch Blu-Ray, it's usually best to set the PS3 to output 24Hz.

That's true. The thing is that the best TV's with the highest contrast etc are all going to have 120hz now too. I ran into a similar problem shopping for my tv - i didn't care about 1080p, but all the best tv's automatically had 1080p too.
 
some people don't really like 120hz
you can actually see the people acting in front of the green screen
games have a kinda 3-D pop out like those 3D movies where you have to wear the red/blue glasses

but either way that's were TV's are heading until super duper HD comes out in 7 years

you're talking about AMP again (or motionflow(sony), or natural motion(philips), etc)

Plasmas avoid this issue entirely, but that's another post
 
The only reason I liked the 750 a little more was just because of that blue streak/ray it has on the bottom of it..or is that the 650?

In any case it would be a great buy probably after December..I just have this feeling its going to go way down starting in January.

I would stick with the HDTV I have now but honestly it isnt the greatest..it is one of those back in the day Samsung HDTVs that have the back to them.

Hey, I'd go with the 650. There's been complaints of the "halo effect" on the 7 series (see pic below). As far as the blue streak you're referring to, i didn't find any pics, but it must just be the power light, 6&7 should both have it. You can choose to have this off or on, it's a nice blue color on mine. Another flaw with the 750 is that the stand doesn't swivel, the 650's does. That would annoy me, I'm always turning mine to be able to see TV when on PC. A high end tv should have a swivel stand.

TV's will always go down, my Sammy LNT-4069FX was top of the line a year ago for $1700, now next generation 6-series that will beat it's picture are only $1300. 46" is a great size, mine's 40" and perfect for my 360, but I have a tiny place.

Without a question this is a great TV.
However a significant major design flaw is very distracting.
The edge is a 3/8" thick x 3" glass frame and light is transmitted from the inside out through the glass (edge piece). Imagine seeing an aura around the TV on the outside edge where there is clear 1/4" clear class bezel.

650 and 750 have red
860 has blue
i think 850 has red
the red on the 750 is pretty nice
 
I couldve swore I when I was in Circuit City twice, I seen the 650 or 750 both have blue streaks/rays below the screen. ((Not the trim))
 
If you are willing to spend that much on your TV, I'd highly suggest you check out the 46 inch Sony Bravia Z series. I compared for a long time before buying my 46 inch LCD and I thought the Bravia Z was the best picture. The price has dropped in the last few months for this model from about $2500 to around $1700-1800 if you get it on sale. Some stores don't TELL you which letter series the Bravia are, but you can look in the item number and look for a letter( usually V, W, X, Y or Z)....the higher the letter, the more advanced the model on the Bravia. We really love ours.
 
One thing to keep in mind is the sound. The 750 comes with a built in sub-woofer whereas the 650 does not. Since I have no immediate plans to get a surround system, this was appealing to me. My father just recently ordered a 750 that's coming to the house any day, now!
 
Really? Didnt know that. Maybe the extra $100 for the 750 is worth it then.

Also, is the Z Series Bravia/s better then the 650 or 750?
I thought they only go up to a 30,000:1 Contrast Ratio compared to Samsungs 650 and 750's 50,000:1 Contrast Ratio

Go with the 650. As I stated before it has a swivel stand, 750 suffers from "halo" effect around screen, and the 650's sound is actually rated supreme to the 750's by Consumer Reports (Dec. '08 issue) despite the built in subwoofer. Even still, with the 650's excellent speaker rating, a surround sound system is the only way to get great sound to compliment an HDTV.

As far as Sony vs. Samsung, all I know is that every time I read a review of a new Samsung it's hailed as the best LCD or sometimes HDTV ever tested and is on top of results with sony, lg, sharp, etc. I think that says alot from places like Gizmodo, CNet, Consumer Reports, etc.

All these manufacturers' contrast ratios are kind of flaky. They all use their own methods to come up with the numbers, and it's hard to compare. That said, the 650 and 750 do use a glossy screen, which makes colors and contrast look better at the expense of increased glare. You can see the same effect on laptops that have glossy screens vs traditional screens.

Also, you're probably going to find lots of arguments between fans of the two manufacturers.
