5 Tips to Get Your Girl to Game
I feel kinda lucky that my wife likes gaming. She mostly enjoys games with good stories (Mass Effect, Metal Gear, most RPGs), but she's also content to just watch me play. I almost never hear "let's watch tv", but "you should play something." She's also very supportive of me collecting old school games, often helping me yard sale and find them.
I don't know if it's an issue of cheesy writing that I'm willing to over look, or more to do with the "Uncanny Valley" from someone not used to staring at digital likenesses but whenever I'm playing games with serious plots and scenes, my wife always kills the mood by making a comment about how melodramatic it is, or something.

She nearly ruined MGS3 for me by constantly walking through the room and commenting on the love story aspects.

My girlfriend wants to play a game with me about once a month. And that's perfectly fine. The other times? She may watch me game, or she may just sit in the room reading a magazine or something and talking to me a bit. I'm perfectly happy with that. About an hour before she goes to bed (she gets up at 5:00 AM...I get up at 7:00 AM), she usually lays down on the couch and says I should play something. Can't beat that.

That Uncharted 2 commercial a while back (where the boyfriend's girl thinks Uncharted 2 is a movie) was spot-on. My girlfriend would come home after work, grab a bowl of popcorn, and demand I play the game. (And, I certainly wasn't going to complain!)
