$50 GameCube Trade-In EBGS

Blaine

CAGiversary!
I'd like to have someone confirm this for me, but as I stopped by to put $5 on Card Fighter's Clash for the DS, I was told that the GameCube trade in value was increased from $25 to $30 as well there's an additional $20 trade-in promotion running until November 5th, bringing the grand total to $50.

*confirmed by cags*

This pisses me off. I was about to trade in my Gamecube at EB until the manager told me the trade-in value was $30-$35. F-that!

I just called a local Gamestop, and the clerk (of course) needed to check on the deal. I'm kind of pressed for time today, and the OSU game starts in about five minutes, so I asked him if by the deal ending tomorrow if he meant that today was the last day or if it's good through tomorrow. He nonchalantly said the it was the latter (i.e. good through the 5th). Anyone able to clarify this? Was he just being apathetically incorrect?

EDIT: (Disregard this...it's working again, even though I'm still unclear as to if the deal is good through the 5th or just today.) Also, the link (at least for me) to the specific Gamestop deal page no longer works. (I wanted to scrutinize the wording and print it, if necessary.) Maybe they're getting overinundated with Gamecubes and can't afford any more store credit hemorrhaging? Seriously, who's going to buy a Gamecube for more than $50 three months from now?

you have to ask for the extra $20. if you did, then you got fucked, if not go back and ask! or at least call and have them check the system for the deal.

For what it's worth, I called another local Gamestop and they independently confirmed that this deal goes through the 5th, not until it. So, yeah, I'm dumping my 'cube tomorrow afternoon.

How are some of you guys getting $45? I traded mine in yesterday and got $55 (don't ask why, cuz I dunno). They also didn't bother to check if mine was working or not. This was at the EB in Manhattan Mall in NYC.

I think Ill be trading mine in tomorrow... do you need to trade in a controller along with it (the one it comes with)? Sorry if this has already been asked I don't want to look through the whole thread.

Apparently you need to trade in a controller, but not necessarily the one that came with it.

Alright thanks, I think I've got one around here somewhere.

I trade mine in: $25 for the system, plus $20 bonus. The person behind the counter said I would've received an extra %10 if I had a reward card, or whatever it is Gamestop uses. I traded in some games at the same time as well, and used the credit to pre-order Metal Slug Anthology and Elebits for the Wii.

Traded my GameCube today too.
Do they usually check if the Gamecube/Console you trade in is in working condition? Because they didn't or at least I don't think they did. Anyway, I bought Valkyrie Profile 2 with the store credit. I was thinking about Baten Kaitos Origins, but luckily, I remembered that I won't be able to play it until the Wii is out...

I have 3 wavebirds and I really don't want to trade them in. Would you trade them in if you didn't have another controller ot trade iN?

Also (sorry for the double post) I just realized that I have no idea where my covers are for the bottem of the system after taking out my GB Player & Broadband adapter. Will this present any problems when I sell it?

On a side note, is the broadband adapter worth anything?
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how much a gameboy player would trade for?
Hah! I called them about that, they said $14 for trade $10 for cash. I said screw that and sold it on Ebay for $47.

Well, I couldn't find the cover for where the modem goes. But since I haven't had dial-up for several years, and the modem only sells for a few bucks on ebay, I just kept the modem in the GCN. I'm never gonna need it/use it/want it.

I didn't say anything, as I didn't want any problems to arise (not that they should), but the GS guys probably thought they were soooo sneaky by not telling me the modem was in it. Yay for them, lol.

Sold my Gamecube on Ebay for $65 including shipping. It helped that I had the original box and manual. I probably could have listed it for higher as it sold a minute after I put it up there.

Pre Edit: I went to the GS across the street and bought a "Hip Gear" Shitty-ass GC controller and bought that using my Credit. As you may already know, the guy accepted it.

Traded in my GC + GT4 for a total of $51.60. With $318.34 Credit at my side, I pre-ordered Excite Truck, Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam, and Rayman: Raving Rabbids. So, in the end, I have $161 in credit left with those 3 games plus Zelda POed at EB.:D:D:D::D:D

Took one up the a$$ on this deal. I took my trusty old Platinum GC with everything and a Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller. The guy looks at everything and tells me that an Official Controller is necessary. I had brought some old DVD's with me that I wanted to trade in anyway. I got $8 for them, so I says to him how much are Used 1st Party controllers. $15, and tonight of all nights, my EB Card decides to take a fucking walk. So the guy takes in the GC and DVD's and it comes up to $58, minus the 15 is 43. Ah well...

Paid off the rest of DBZ, put the rest on Excite Truck.

Tried to do it today and they said the deal was dead. Apparantly when they say it ends on 11/05 that means the last day to do it is 11/04.

The way i saw it ending on 11/05 ment i had until 11/05 to do it, because thats when it ends. >_>

Worked fine for me today, so YMMV on customer service. You still might be able to get it if you hit up a different GS/EB before the night is through.

alright i finally brought in the cube, the employee took the third party controller and didnt bother to test anything, even tho it all worked great. He said he would have taken the gamestop card, but it wouldnt scan in(i traded this into an EB not a gamestop bc they are closer). So no dice on the 10%, i used the $45 in credit to preorder the castlevania portrait of ruin, even tho he told me it would come with all of the preorder bonus, it doesnt say anything about the bonus on the receipt, am I totally hosed, it was $35, should i go back and try to put another $5 down to get the preorder bonus?

they would not even take the broken ps2, i told him up front it was broken, he suggested i send it to sony since they cant take it x-p

Sunday, they close early :(

Edit: Actually i checked their site and it says the deal is UNTIL 11/05. So i went ahead and called the number on the site to see if they could do anything about it, and the customer rep filed a complaint for me.

A part of me was about to say no just forget it, because i hate it when customers file a complaint, but then again thats $40 more(xbox and cube) i could have had if they didnt turn me away, not to mention time and gas money. He said the DM will contact me within a few days so ill explain the cashier wasnt being a jerk just was unaware.

On my last note, this is the first time ive ever dealt with a 1-800 rep for gamestop and wow was i impressed. He was really understanding and i now have more respect for the company(never thought id see the day!).

you will find that not all eb/gs employees are a asses. Probably very few of them are, but it really just takes one really bad experience to sour you on their store.

Traded mine in today. Even though I haven't played it much over the last year, and I've still got all the games, there was something kind of sad about the whole ride to Gamestop. I don't know, the thing was just so small, so unloved and unplayed...I felt like I was driving it on a one-way trip to the Island of Misfit Consoles. Keeping my PS2 and Xbox indefinitely made me feel even worse about the way I 'singled' it out.

Oh, look, there's the Gears "Mad World" spot again. What was I lamenting?
