50% Off Select Manga Ent. Anime DVDs at DDD (Castle of Cagliostro, Perfect Blue $10)

I'd didn't know DDD had so many animes. I think this sale has just as much of a variety as the Amazon.com sale. While it's not part of the sale I found the whole Cromartie High school set with box for around $80, give or take. Now to wait for the 20% off sale or not.

The limited gits sets are pretty nice comparred to the regular sets. Especially for the 2nd gig. As for the 1st season, it depends on the disk. All of the ltd sets have the extra disc with episodes with DTS sound.

Season 1 disk 1: Extra is the GITS sdtrk, and it's really nice.
disk2: A secondary soundtrack.
disk 3: A t shirt of the disc cover art, of who I'm not sure. And I've watched them a lot.
disk 4 and 5 have an id card and that's it.
disk 6 has a tshirt of Batou and an Idcard.
disk 7 has a laughing man logo shirt, a collector tib box that holds all the 1st season of gits and a id card.-Easily the best stuff.

2nd gig seasons have all come with a 2 disc collector tin.
disk 1: Gits 2 sdtrk
disk 2: Gits playing cards and mousepad.

I have upgraded to all of the ltd sets from the regular sets. They're really nice, but if you don't care about DTS sound and the freebies, the standard sets are nice enough. Since I'm a whore for tins and such I had to get the ltd sets, but I paid only about 23 a piece for them. These prices are pretty killer.

It doesn't say anywhere, but these things usualy last for a week or two.

What exactly is manga? Up until now I thought they were the print versions of the anime movies, but these are DVDs, so now I'm confused.

"Manga is the Japanese word for comics and/or cartoons (not necessarily animated, this includes print cartoons); outside of Japan, it usually refers specifically to Japanese comics. Manga developed from a mixture of ukiyo-e and Western styles of drawing, and took its current form shortly after World War II. It comes mainly in black and white, except for the covers and maybe the first few pages."

I was under the impression that all print was manga and all animation was anime.

The company's name is "Manga Entertainment"

Kinda like "Fox", the shows/movies arent made by little animals that get hunted by dogs, its just the name of the company.

Oh thank goodness, I've been questioning that for years now. I will sleep much more soundly tonight. No more waking up in cold sweats screaming HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY DO THAT WITHOUT OPPOSABLE THUMBS?

Yeah, Manga is one of the first companies to bring Anime to the states... back then it was called "Japanimation"

That's the company's name, and also... "Anime" in only "Anime" in the US... every where else its "Manga" or just plain "Animation", but never "Anime".

Thanks for reminding me, the only one I'm missing is the Disc 7 LTD with the tin box that I really wanted, but I now see that it's not even apart of this sale :(

Maybe I'll finally upgrade my GitS Disc 1 to the LTD since I want the soundtrack.

Man, DDD's site is slow.

Funny thing is that I just watched R.O.D. last night and saw of lot of Manga trailers that interested me.

Hmm.. this may be my chance to jump in and buy some anime. What do you guys recommend for someone who is fairly new to anime. I have only seen Akira and Ninja Scroll and I liked those a lot. I think I might want to get Cagliostro, Read or Die, Ninja Scroll and maybe GitS? What is the difference between the Limited Edition Ninja Scroll and the regular? Also, for someone who just wants to start watching GitS, which set would I buy first?

For the love of god jump on Read or Die, Cagliostro and Perfect Blue. That is easily the Tri-fecta of this sale.

As for the limited edition of Ninja Scroll, basicly it includes a couple special features, a DTS soundtrack, and remastered picture.

Exactly what I would have said (and did say earlier in the thread, actually). Can't say the same for Ninja Scroll, though; I've always hated it. I'll never understand the appeal.

I drove to like 12 different stores trying to find the seventh disc with the tin that wasn't banged up. It seems the metal is really thin and most were damaged being shipped to the store.

Sale is still going on. Some things appear to have been removed from the list (OOS im assuming), however somethings (i.e. Perfect Blue) have been placed back in the list.

When you add Perfect Blue to your cart it says it is currently out of stock.

Quick question - If were to start watching Ghost in the Shell, which DVD would I buy first? I don't understand the difference between the $20 and the $10 versions.

You can still order it, its just basicly back-ordered.

As for Ghost In The Shell, the main difference is the more expesive ones come with a 2nd disc with DTS audio, and then an extra which varies by volume; t-shirt, soundtrack, box, some sort of ID tag.....basicly if you want the extras and the DTS audio get the $20 one, if not, get the $8 ones.

If you really want Perfect blue, just go on ebay, average selling price is 99 cents for the special edition (not a bootleg)
