tempting.

if i wasn't trying to get the 60gb from sonystyle for 400 shipped, i'd consider jumping on this.

any word on how long the two promos last?
also, is aihuman implying some 60gb models may not have the EE chip?
one more thing... the PS2 GH controllers are unusable, even with the ps3/ps2 controller adapter?
ok, i'm a little behind on all this PS3 talk because, frankly, i haven't given a hoot about the PS3.

the question i have is this:

what's the difference in backwards compatibility for emotion vs. non-emotion chip systems? for non emotion chip engines, wouldn't it just download emulation updates, like the 360 does for old XBox games?
EE chipped systems have a very high compatibility rate, around 98-99%. Non EE chipped systems hover around the 70 percents or so. It will have emulation updates, but like the X360, it will never be as high in compatibility rates as the EE chipped systems. Additionally, Sony, and Microsoft, will eventually re-direct backwards compatbility resources towards products that actually generate money.

I got Circuit City to honor a 10% off coupon with my PS3, as well as a free Gamer's Club pack thing which is actually pretty good since it gives you 10% off games, accessories and guides for one whole year. Although, three Blu-Ray movies isn't bad.

Once the 60Gigs are out of stores they will not be replenished by Sony.

I have my PS3 back at Sony being repaired (or they will send me a refurb). This is the second time I had a problem with my PS3 and when I asked (begged) for a new 60Gb the customer service person stated that they are no longer available new direct from Sony for replacement. I read similar thoughts elsewhere and think the EE is gone once stock leaves stores.

Yup. Last I checked, even Sony's online store listed the 60GB model as "out of stock." Sony has already stated they will no longer produce the 60GB to cut costs, and all the units that are at retail are all that is left. Europe never had EE-chipped systems to begin with so it's not a surprise.

I wonder if EE and non-EE systems have differences in terms of visual quality of PS2 games.
Do everything the OP says and add 3 movies from the correct selection to the list.

There are currently 2 promos running with the purchase of a PS3 on Amazon:
-3 free BluRay
-B2G1
They are stacking, so when you add three movies, it makes them all free, but then also under the B2G1 takes the price of the lowest movie gets taken off.
And even better, I bought an HDTV from Amazon last November, and got a year of 10% off all HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, which I completely forgot until I went to do this deal and got 10% off the price of the 3 discs. So I ended up with an additional $7.50 or so off my price, bringing my PS3 down to $468

The general deal is probably going to be just until the end of the week. As to how long the two promos stacking are going to last...

man...i'm sold.

i really hope this doesn't put me in debt. have a lotta bills this month, but i think this is the best deal i've seen thus far. i really hope this is the best deal i could've gotten outta this. i wouldn't have been accepted for the credit card 349.00 deal. so i'm just hoping i made the right choice. =\
it's either dead or the links have changed. Clicking "This List" brings up info on HD DVDs.
Same here too

NVM

Anyone know how long this is going to last?

I want Blood Diamond, The Departed, and Crank. But I can't place th order until sept 15th

I ordered a PS3 from Amazon on August 7th without any sort of promotional offer. I figured it was worth a shot to ask and see if the amazon post order pricing guarantee would allow me to get 3 blu-rays.

Will let you know, I may even call and try to throw some stubbornness around for $70 worth of Blu-rays.

OOOHH, I already have one but wouldn't mind another so I don't have to share anymore. TEE HEE.

Just to remind those just joining us. Go to Amazon search for the PS3(60GB) and right under the Price you'll see the link to this awesome deal

"Purchase a PLAYSTATION 3 and receive 8 free Blu-Ray movies. Purchase between August 28, 2007 and September 23, 2007, mail-in and instant offer. While supplies lasts. Go to PS3 offer."

Oh cool, so I can still order it the day after my birthday and snag the deal! Awesome!

I bit on this deal too. Unfortunately I live in one of the 4 taxed states. Oh well. It's still 8 BRs and a PS3 for 500

took the plunge too. too good to pass up. i was going to do the sony cc deal with 150 off... but i gotta wait for the savings... plus i'm not sure if they charge tax as there is a sony store(at least one) in my area/state. so, they may charge tax... which, if they do... will put it closer to do this deal.

now, i have wii, xbox, ps2, and dreamcast... plus i now know what i'll be doing this weekend. :)

Yep Yep. This has been on slickdeals a day or two now. I picked up the ps3 with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Departed, and Blood Diamond. The final price was $480, I believe, minus a remaining $150 from my Iowa Rewards card. I wish I had received my $250 amazon gc from amex by now--that would have made this even sexier. I think I should have picked this up when they were giving away a remote or controller a few weeks back. Well, I'm getting this mainly for the blu-ray, for now at least.

For those of you that are confused, or don't know what is going to happen with the PS3 emotion chip, there is no confusion. The earlier PS3s contain the emotion chip. After a price drop on those, it was revealed that they were being phased out for a new PS3 variant, with more hard drive space, and crucially, without the Emotion chip.

So the Emotion Chip is being phased out. Get the old PS3s while you can. You can always swap the HDD over when your warranty runs out.

Too great of a deal to pass up, I have a nice empty spot right next to my elite that I've been wanting to fill up for some time now.

Thanks for the heads up :applause:

All set now - shipped tonight, put a couple PS3 games on my goozex want list tonight and got 2 on the way already, ordered the HDMI cable from monoprice, and got Netflix Queued up with some blu-rays.

Ordered mine last night. Is there any particular HDMI cable that is better than another from Monoprice for the PS3?

I dont know too much about the cables, and know that for the most part if it works it works, but things like 28AWG and 22 confuse me.

I got a 3ft 28AWG - looked good enough to me.

cool! thanks for the suggestion man. looks pretty good to me too. nice price also.
i still waiting for my blu rays from the 5 free blu ray deal :(
I'm curious to know how long they typcially take to be shipped and arrive. When or how long ago did you send out the rebate form?
All PS3s made after April 2007 will not have the emotion engine.:cold:

Dam.Pay day is a week a way.:bomb:If I had the funds I would have jumped on this deal.
I read that you can put the items on hold by requesting to pay by check. You can then change the method of pay or cancel it.

Damn it, the HD-DVD drive deal was bad enough, but this is basically 8 free movies and a PS3 for ~$25 off MSRP. I don't think we'll get a deal like that soon again. I just wish there was at least one PS3 game I was interested in out now or coming soon.

I would suspect this deal to come around again, or perhaps even better deals by November. Especially on the HD-DVD side.

I bit yesterday morning, got the 60GB PS3 + Casino Royale, Xmen 3, and Pursuit of Happyness. I haven't decided yet if I will try to sell the blurays or not, as I like all 3 of those movies.

I already bought an HDMI cable a few weeks ago, as I have been preparing the get a PSTriple for a while now. Now I just need a game! Gamefly will get me Lair when it comes out, but I am contemplating Resistance and Motorstorm as well.
The reason it works is because Amazon is applying 2 promotions.

- Great 3 free movies with purchase of hardware (~$84)
- Buy 2 Get 1 Free for Blu Ray (~$28)
Thanks for the explanation! That...sort of makes sense now :D Hey, I'm not going to complain. We need more "buy more stuff and the price gets cheaper" deals ;)
