From what I understand, they're pretty much the same right?

The main difference is that the 60GB is 99% compatible with PS2 games via hardware emulation, while the 80GB one is 95% compatible with PS2 games via software emulation.

New 60GB ones are around $800, while new 80GB MGS4 ones are around $520 (as of this writing).

Is there any real advantage to going with the 60GB ones to warrant nearly a $300 difference?

I thought that the 80GB had like 90% compatibility? Doesn't really matter though, go with the 80GB. For $300 more, it's not worth it. Also, 60GB models are less reliable. (Nothing like the 360, but they're still pretty faulty.)
