Let me guess: you're the one who would be in munch's class, one-handed text messaging throughout the entire lecture (those you attend, anyway). You would also protest after receiving a "C" or "C-" that your puppies and/or mother died, and that is why you missed so much class.

While I appreciate your glitter idea, there's only so many times the op can falsely attribute his failings to others when he's batting 1.000 in regards to being fired. I had two dozen jobs by the time I was 23, I've never been fired, and in nearly every circumstance, the bosses/owners/management were ready to blow me to get me to stay.

Well, technically I was fired once. However, when you're scheduled to work, and decide rather than show up, you want to drive 100 miles to go to an amusement park for the day instead, the fine line of perception is rather distorted. In other words, the boss couldn't call me at the amusement park and tell me "YOU CAN'T QUIT! YOU'RE FIRED!"
You really should look back at those experiences and see what you could have done differently. I'm not saying you are solely to blame for such misfortune but getting fired from EVERY job is no coincidence. Separate yourself from your "principles" and try to be objective. Set aside your disdain for the people you deemed "jealous" or "competitive" and honestly reflect on your past experiences. Was there ANYTHING you could have done or said differently that would have changed the end result? Do you notice any patterns?
2/3 of the times he was fired, it was due to managerial/ownership changes. Failed.

WHAT THE fuck ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? God damn. You guys should really stop assuming the most random ass things about people. You barely know him or me yet yet you try to degrade us for no reason at all.

Why dont you get off your horse mr. high and mighty and come to the real world where not everything is black and white. You dont know his situation he could have already went through school and looking for a entry level postion somewhere. As with me..you dont know me so how did you come to conclude that i get C's in college.....better yet how do you know that much didnt C his way through college to get his degree.

Who are you to say what jobs is worthy of a 24 year old...which isnt very old to begin with?

I made a glitter joke instead of bashing or giving out advice even though i dont know him. Christ get a life douche.

\\:D/Wow grad teacher huh. Karma for you.......need more teachers.

Anyway...i am taking nothing away from you being a grad teacher....but that doesnt make you better than that other guy. It just makes you a guy who is a grad teacher.

That other guy....he must be cool. I mean the wordly advice was cool to the bone.
OK, I know everyone thinks you are a genius for this idea, but can you post a link to the comedian whose stand up act you took it from? (not trying to be snotty, I just can't remember his name and he was hilarious on the comedy channel)
I think your talking about rip tayler right?

You're stories about working at a movie theater are extremely plausible. I don't doubt any of that happened just one bit. Which company did you work for?
another reality based suggestion would be to not work retail. I don't know your education level, but maybe you should go to school to get it to the point where you aren't stuck working in retail jobs where the employees are expendable and easily replaceable.
Not to be a jerk or demean the OP, but I concur. If you have the drive and potential that you say you do (based on the 4 jobs that you quickly advanced in) take that drive and put it into college. A college degree is way worth it, even if it means pulling out loans or having to get grants to get things going.

With a college degree, the drive to succeed, and some experience in lower management, you will be offered many more opportunities where you are with other people like yourself that want to succeed and you might actually find a position that you excel at.

Hey! There's no room for logical argument here...this is the Internet, buddy! ;)

In all seriousness, college is not a bad idea. Even though the degree costs a hell of a lot up front, do you really want to work at places like Blockbuster for the rest of your life? Would you really be happy if you made it to fifty or sixty and realized that that's where all of your time went?

Or rather, wouldnt you be really happy if you made it to fifty or sixty thousand dollars salary

IN the spirit of CAG, may I suggest cheap ass college?

Go to your local community college. A place notoriously for bums and shit, but if you can actually do the work and make it to class (unlike 95% of the kids) a ton of transfer opportunities will be open to you. I'll be getting a free ride to a state school of my choice more or less, which isn't exactly, you know, Penn or Yale but it's still getting a college degree for cheap.

On topic... fired/quit/glitter?
Or rather, wouldnt you be really happy if you made it to fifty or sixty thousand dollars salary
Haha...exactly I dont know many that start out at 50-60k (although I do know a few) ;)

30-40k starting is nothing to sneeze at though, with opportunities that can get you well over 50-60k in the future.

Anywho, I'm sure someone will see this as "thread crapping" so I'm done with my seemingly logical advice.

Good Luck OP

Don't give him too much credit, he's a grad student 'slash' teacher. Not jumping to an indefinite conclusion but he's probably a TA for a undergraduate class at his school, or a HS teacher.

;)

Back to topic, IMO, I think that the company if firing OP not because they think he stole the games, but firing him for not taking any viable action to minimize the theft in the store. That was the first thing that came to mind after reading the OP's original post. There were probably more questions asked related to the incidents but OP only posted the most irritating questions which implied the possibility that he stole the games. And we've been basing the assumption off of that.

I want to get some updates from OP, I hope he's not in custody for carrying out the glitter prank. :)
I think your talking about rip tayler right?
I don't think so, unless that comedian took it from him. It was definately a younger guy, I don't really remember much else from his routine. Oh well..
I'll take this one...
His problem is doing too much work. Sadly, with most retail jobs (including working at a theater) they way to move up the corporate ladder is to make it seem like your doing work to the management, while only doing the bare minimum. Once I realised this at the Theater, I slacked off and got promoted in 3 weeks. Did it at another jobe, same results. I'd try working my ass off to start, but it did NOTHING. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Now at my current job as a Comic Shop Manager, where the only one above me is the actual owner, things are going fine, and im doing a great deal of work and being rewarded for it.
isn't this exactly what happened in office space?

anyways, i'll tell you why blockbuster gets raped so much- they don't put security scanners for the entrances of their stores, only the exits. i dont know if it's because they are really cheap, or they just forgot, or they think their "door opening one way" idea is foolproof, but they should really install them in the entrance. i know people who just take a few games, and leave through the front entrance, having some friend going into blockbuster at the same time (thus bypassing the "one way" door). so yeah, blockbuster is teh idiot. shove that in the face of your manager. (btw, i've only been in blockbusters in florida with a separate door for entering and exiting, may be different elsewhere)
isn't this exactly what happened in office space?
Yep. Came out while I was working at the theater too..VERY quickly became a favorite :)

One of the other managers got the weekend off for driving her car into a ditch while drunk, and you're the one probably getting fired? Awesome.
Oh yeah, I remember now. And on a related side note I was actually promoted to Manager at a movie theatre I worked at because they were going to fire me, but after hearing my side of the story the Regional Manager liked the cut of my jib and realized I wasn't the problem and that I should be in charge of those people who thought I was.

~PHILIP
I just got promoted yesterday. Well actually I knew I had the job last year when I was asked to "apply" for it, but the GM didn't know since she doesn't really do much work and has no clue as to what is going on unless she gets an e-mail about a problem.

That sucks about your job at Gamerush (I haven't read all the thread so maybe I'll see that you didn't get fired?), but maybe you could go back to the theatre? I know its not the greatest job and if you worked for who I think you may have then the pay sucks too, but its something.
Almost forgot...
glitter vials were purchased from a nearby Rite Aid so that I could finish the various art projects I had around the store.
I also had a few 'reprice' reports to finish as well as 'new' labels to print out for some of our rental copies.

~PHILIP
I for one hope you are joking. It's all fun and games to joke about that stuff on a messageboard, but another thing to do that stuff in real life. Not really mature.

If you know they are going to fire you SCREW them over big time. A: your fired anyways so it's not like someone is going to give you a recommendation. A1/2: Your getting fired for theft you say you didn't do.

WARNING story time WARNING

I once worked for compusa ,during the three years I worked there many people came and went but a small core of us stayed and had fun working together. Rules change at compusa on a weekly basis but somewhere in my 2nd year there a major shake up took place. Most of management was fired and that left my small core of brothers and I with new management with a bad attitude. First we had a VERY angry black man that only would hire black people and on top of that assist black people. Most of the non black workers were accused of being racist and had attempted fire paper work towards us. Mean while more jerk management would join, people that would smash things against the wall if we didn't sell replacement plans or PROMISE to fire us if we didn't meet there Godly goals(90% attach rate for replacement plans AND AOL sign ups) So little by little my core of retail brothers departed for jobs elsewhere(very smart moves on their part) and then I was alone. So now management is on my ass 24/7 to train new people and set a example and blah blah blah all the while with no pay increase and still having my job threatened every day. So I began the search for a new job on the "down low" a little while later some one who I thought was a friend told management that I was looking for another job. Management was furious and yelled and screamed at me in a closed office talk. I brushed it off as I had just been offered a job paying double what compusa payed plus full benefits and lots of extras. So I handed in my two weeks, I had expected to be fired on the spot as they had done by old friends that already departed. But no, they tried to drag me through 2 weeks of torture. So I decided to let them have it. I for a week and a half bought computers for friends and family with my discount and slacked off leaving things for the drones to do. would leave the keys in the display cases and finally half way into my last week decided I wanted a vacation so I didn't show up for a shift during a busy Friday sale till 5 hours from my start time. I showed up in my regular clothes and a brown paper bag with my compusa stuff in it. Threw it on the table where a manager was eating lunch and said "I quit bitches" and walked out after apologizing to the other workers for them having to close without me.

STORY OVER

Moral of the story, don't let people fuck you or your friends over, fuck them right back and then some. Let the shenanigans begin.......

I have to agree w/ the whole "fuck the place over" mentality. It's not immature to want to stick it to the man, for one, and another thing is that he's being fired for no reason.

fuck them people yo, fuck them over good

Actually it is immature. Still, I look forward to the eventual "oh noes, I got glitter in the boss's eye and he's got vision damage now and he's taking me to civil court!" post.

I'm not sure if this is nation-wide but in Illinois future employers can only confirm that the person in question actually worked for their previous employers. He/she can not ask any questions about their tenure there or why they left.

Ditto in Wisconsin but I think it's the the way around, former employers can not say anything besides X person worked here from X date to X date. Most work places I have seen require you(the person who is hiring) call a 1800 number for employment verification rather then calling the store/office to ask if a person you would like to hire has worked there.

There needs to be a way for quotable quotes to cycle on the front page somewhere, and this one should appear as the first quote.

Then again, the point still hits home as something you should think carefully about before accepting advice.

Agreed..haha

Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread, so I'm not even sure if you got fired yet, but if not I absolutely would not resign. That looks suspicious, and in my eyes makes you look guilty. Let them fire you- you did nothing wrong and have nothing to hide.

Plus, you may even be able to collect unemployment, which you wouldn't be able to do if you resigned.

While it sucks to get fired- especially if you're innocent, perhaps it's fate pushing you out of a shitty job for something better that's coming.

Good luck.
