$7.00 Patapon 2 (Downloadable Game Voucher)for PSP fulfilled by amazon

I miss all the other Amazon PSN sales :(, though this is a good deal for anyone who doesnt have already, amazing game.

(I think i brought it for like 10 dollars off PSN a while ago)

Sorry for my newb question: do you download the game to a PS3 and transfer it to a PSP, or dload directly to the PSP via internet + a memory card? If so, I may have to get a new memory stick...

You can do it either way. Amazon just gives you a code to redeem the game (either via PS3 or PSP).

Heres an odd question. I know Patapon 2 was recently released on UMD this year and that Amazon currently only (Explicitly) shows this UMD less downloadable voucher but how truthful is this in actuality? I've come across atleast two incidents in my google search and one right at the bottom of Amazon's page (in their game forum) that someone received the phyiscal umd in the mailbox rather then the aforementioned downloadable code.

So, my question is, what are we getting here when we place down our seven dollars?

I'd rather have the disk but don't feel like biting on something unknowingly.

Thanks! Maybe I'll grab this off PSN tomorrow...

Did they release an actual UMD version? I know they had a legit retail version but it was just a DLC in a PSP game case. I know that's the only reason I never bought it and I actually think they killed whatever fanbase they built up with the first one by doing that. I think they did that because they were trying to push the PSP Go's service.

Yup, there's an actual UMD version of Patapon 2! I got my PSP last week and picked up an actual physical copy at Best Buy for $10. So I can assure you it exists :D

Haven't gotten around to playing it yet though, I've been too busy with Half-Minute Hero. Love that game!

good info here. have a psp arriving today and this is one of the games i want for it. good to know i can get it on psn for 8 or umd for 10

Have you actually opened the package, though? I'm 95% sure that even the physical cases only contain a download voucher. I remember it being a big deal.

Wow. Thanks for that! I did a search to confirm and Gamestop has used copies for sale. Sort of a silent release that makes little sense. Sell DLC only version for $20. Drop the drop the price to $10 and sell a UMD version.

Yeah, I actually opened it up. I enjoy reading game manuals, so I read through it, and plus I wasn't entirely sure how the game mechanics worked, so I wanted to know about that. But yes, I distinctly recall there being a UMD inside. I promise that it's real, everyone!

I was just about to jump on this but then yes, I remembered that it is also 7.99 downloadable on PSN. Good, so I can wait until I finish Lunar to pick it up.

I have a real UMD version of this game. So yeah it does exist. The voucher ones will have a banner on the top of the artwork saying so, the real UMD ones have regular artwork on the case.

Link?

All I see on GS site is for digital downloads. And it has this copy at the bottom:

IMPORTANT** No UMD included.
Memory Stick and Access to Playstation Network Required.
Patapon 2 will be available as a "Downloadable Game Voucher" packaged inside a standard PSP case.
The case will come packed with a voucher code card complete with detailed redemption instructions: as well as a printed manual.

I bought this brand new when it came out for $20 and was annoyed it was not a UMD. And now, for $10, it is a UMD? Thanks Sony.

Yes the wording for the digital download is there, but there are stores sellling used copies near me, which would be impossible if it wasn't UMD. Sorry for not providing a link earlier.

And there's now two CAGs verifying owning a UMD version. That's good enough for me.

There's actually a post on these forums about the umd release (just as a point of reference) found here:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262563

Still remaining however is if when you do purchase this game from say Amazon (or any other online retailer for that matter) that currently does not list the umd version as a separate entity, which will you receive? Has anyone (other then directly related to this post) purchased one of these recently and could tell me what they received, whether it be the voucher or the disk?

Because quite frankly, I'd love to know. Thanks.

If you can find a place that DOESN'T list it as a downloadable game I would like to know. Amazon, Buy, Best Buy and Gamestop all list it as DOWNLOADABLE VOUCHER in either their title or their description. Fry's is showing the downloadable cover on their site. I stopped by Best Buy, 2 Targets and Wal Mart after work today and they are all digital versions. I know that people have proved that they have a copy but this is like trying to find a ghost. Why make it so hard?

The thread above (I'll link it again here) is all about Patapon 2 specifically being on UMD, and in that thread I posted some photo evidence of it I found.

I believe (but can't confirm) that Sony re-released the game on UMD under the same SKU / UPC barcode, so it's a crapshoot if you'll still get the relatively abundant game voucher version or the UMD one when ordering online.

Ugh. I was gonna buy it with a $5 promotional credit I had but then I noticed it was actually from a 3rd party and excluded from the credit.

DANGIT!

I bought mine at Best Buy today and there is a umd in it. I've been playing it, I wonder when they switched, because this was their big selling point for the psp go.

They probably figured that the sequel to a $20 game that's very niche (sold pretty good but price had to be a factor as well) isn't going to get people to fork over the $250 for a PSP Go just to play it.

I'm still not sure how to download games to the PSP without a PS3 and even with a PS3 it's a bit of a chore. If I run into a Patapon 2 on UMD, I might actually pick it up. Especially for less than $10.

can't you just download directly from the psp? my gf and i got ours just yesterday and she downloaded a superman comic to it while we were sitting on the couch setting it up.

there's also pc software you can use

I know that this is CAG and all, but a question: If the game is $7, what's the real incentive of going with a UMD versus a digital version? Any sort of resale value on this game is going to be a pittance. (And yes, FYI the digital versions of both Loco Roco 2 and Patapon 2 are $7.99 normally on the PSN store. I bought mine a few weeks ago at that price, at least.)

A lot of people just like having the physical object. I do, though that's only part of it for me. The other part is that I still play NES and other old games. PSN might not even be around in 20 years, and if it is I doubt I'll be able to download my games from it.

Yeah, there are lots of ways around those issues, but collectors aren't really logical.

That would be my response, too. I'm a gamer but also a collector. For me, I don't consider my downloaded games as part of my collection since I can't put them on a shelf and collect dust. :)
