Now that's freaking crazy. Then of course it is very unlikely that anyone will put out a program that supports all 8 cores.

Its not that hard to scale up from 2 to 8 cores. Like in a Beowulf cluster all the program has to do is query how many cores the system has access to and distribute work accordingly.

On another note the skulltrail system truly is a waste of money for anyone not doing some serious 3d rendering.

Well see it works perfectly for me then. However I would have to wait til Maya supported 8 cores before I could buy this board and chips.

HOw much? I'm probably going to upgrade my computer like 4 years from this post. I just noticed the big skull in the picture.

...reminds me of how they used to say "640k of memory?! We'll never need more than that."...

Maybe I should have said, It is unlikely we will see any programs/games this year that will support all 8 cores.

Anyways according to the tomshardware article:

Falcon Northwest was among the first to be offering a Skulltrail system to its customers with a starting price of $10,034.57. The package includes a 1000 watt power supply, 4 GB of memory, two GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards, two 1 TB hard drives as well as a DVD burner and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit). A fully configured Skulltrail system tops out at just under $17,000.
