80 GB PS3 package seen at retail!
Did you ask if it was just a display/pre-order box or did you see any sign that it was for sell?
No, it was an actual bundle for sale. It was at a Target store. The $599 tag was a sgn it was for sale as well
Nice find!

Cheapy - this might need to go on the front page as it's pretty big shopping news.
How so? Only morons would buy the 80gb for $600 instead of the 60gb for $500.

There are a lot of morons out there.
Obviously, but how is it big news / front page material for CAG?
Because a CAG spotted it in the wild about a month ahead of schedule.

I think they already started shipping, gamestop site has it and i have also seen it local in store at target.

Will probably be posted on kotaku and say "we took this picture at our local toysrus"

I saw the same thing at my Target here in Kansas City over the weekend. Looked like they had one 80GB system locked in the PS3 case.

Hey, at least the OP didn't put this thread in the DEALS section...

I'm not so sure about that. GS has them in stock in the store locator, and listed as "ready to ship in 24 hours" on their website. I think the street date for this was 8/1, so they've only been out a short period.

And, just to be safe, steer clear of this bundle for now! Save $100, get the 60GB, and ensure backwards compatibility with your PS2 titles. The 80GB *does not* have PS2 hardware on board, and will, for the moment, have limited compatibility w/ PS2 titles. I know it's common knowledge at this point, but I want to protect anyone from making this mistake.

Shipping and having something on sale are totally different things. Some stores have items in stock but wait for offical dates like they should I saw boxes of the newest Harry Potter a month before it was to be released on their way to retailers ahead of time.

Anyway, issue here is WHEN was the offical date for these to be sold? Anyone have a link? Only statements I have found are "August" and "August 12th" from eariler.

Plus I guess, another issue is why Sony hasn't been clear on the dates for their customers. I'll do some more ferreting to see if I missed something (Sure it posted nice and clear somewhere and I'm being a fool and missing(.

I'd love to know if you saw any 60GB or if they store you went to had any in stock. Maybe they were told to sell tehir 60's and then stock their 80's...Could have sold out and went a head and put the 80's up to keep the PS3's out there.

Yes there were 60gbs available at that store.

If you look closely at the pic, those are the 60gb versions.

It's already up for sale everywhere, the street date was August 1st and most places got theirs on or around then....

Yeah, GS.com was advertising these to arrive on 8/1 the week before.

Nice to see a pic, I guess?

I'd be more interested in Slim PSP pre-order news or even the Halo 3 Console pre-order news.

Amen to the slim PSP news. I keep bugging my EBstop every three days about it. I'm sure they're sick of me by now. If they'd just give me a stack of pennied guides I'd leave them alone for a week.

Gee, coming from you, who would have guessed?
I bet a 50 people were lining up outside all night waiting for Wal-Mart to open before they dashed in and bought every last one, right? They also had 50 Wii's sitting on the shelf too, right?

I feel sorry for anyone who spends $100 for 20GB more, a 'decent' game according to a few people, and the removal of the EE chip.

Yeah especially since the HD can be upgraded with relative ease and not a lot of money.

That's precisely why I got a 20GB at Target back in January. They had one of each left, and I knew that for $79 or less I could get a decent HDD (I'm up to 120GB now). The wireless, chrome accents, and media reader were not compelling additions to the console for what I needed. I love my (1)20GB... completely black and chock full o' HDD space. :)

For new converts to the system, I'm not so sure which would be better to get... that's completely a matter of taste and need, I would say.

They had 8 of them at best buy today...I was looking at them and a employee told another employee to 'grab the other two' and they pulled the 80GB off the sales floor!?
