A few questions about online streaming.

CAGiversary!
Hello, I hope this is the right forum, I looked through them all and this seemed like the right one.  I am actually not new here, my other user name was attached to a email address I lost a long time ago and could no longer recover the PW.

I just have a few questions about streaming online, to lets say twitch or even uploading and compiling to post on YouTube.

I am interested in an Xbox One, but I can't find and definitive information on whether or not I need a Kinect to stream my own image.  If I do that's fine, i'll purchase the one with the Kinect.  If it isn't required though, I wouldn't mind using a more quality webcam.  I have the same question regarding the PS4, but I have that already and the cam, so its not as pressing as the Xbox One, since I want to grab one of those on Black Friday.

That leads into my second question, if it is possible to do it without the Kinect or PS Cam, I know I need a capture card.  Any suggestions?  As well for a high quality web cam?

Any other advice regarding set up would really be appreciated.  I have everything nailed down from a show perspective, it is just the technical aspects that I am lagging behind in.

   Thank you!

I don't know how much of a help I'll be, but I'll try to answer what I can.

As for streaming from the Xbox One, you are able to stream with no picture and use your microphone / headset for voice. While I do stream with the kinect for picture, I have the voice disabled so it only picks up from my microphone. If/When you download the twitch app, when you go to settings right before you start a broadcast, you'll notice a couple options for moving the picture and microphone adjustments.

Also, if you're streaming from the Xbox One, it has a built in video capture device so you won't need a capture card for just that system. Only reason you'd need a capture card is if you also wish to stream older systems as well. If you've never streamed before (which is what it sounds like), I'd probably stick with just streaming through the X1/PS4 and see how you like it. No use buying extra equipment only to find out you don't enjoy it.

If you're looking at capture cards, I know people seem to like Elegato and Hauppauge. Haven't entered the market for a capture card myself yet so can't really help out there. I would recommend staying away from Roxio, only because every one I know that has used it has switched over to one of the previous two I mentioned.

If you're looking at capture cards, you'll also want to look at software as well. Two of the more popular ones (to my knowledge) are XSplit and OBS.

Webcams I have no knowledge on so can't really help you there. Same with Youtube. I believe you can export from Twitch to Youtube, but haven't actually tried that out myself.
