Can any Gamestop employees confirm the actual store policy for me?

My local Gamestop is really pissing me off about the buy 2 get one deal.
I picked out 3 classic games, 1 NES, 2 genesis games which are all 30% off right now. The clerk rings them all up and I thought the price was too high and asked to see the breakdown. He didn't give me the lowest one for free and said they can't combine offers with the BTGO deal. So, I had to pick either buy-two-get-one on these games or get 30% off the total for the 3. I said that's ridiculous but i'd buy them and handed him my Gamestop discount card and got the same response: You can't combine offers.

This pissed me off. I tried explaining that the discount card deal was an EXTRA 10% off the price of used games. He said I can't get 30% off then another 10% because that's combining deals again and the computer won't let him do it. I told him that's bullshit because oher Gamestops do it all the time and asked to speak w/ the manager. (he was out to lunch, of course).

Needless to say I'm pissed. Any Joeguy off the street gets the 30% off classic games, the same price as I get even though I've paid them to join their stupid club. This makes the discount card practically worthless....but at least I get a free magazine (?)

In my opinion they should have made good on all three deals. Even though its probably their official policy not to combine offers, I've had cashiers do it for me before. Even one time I was able to use my discount card on a preowned GBA SP even though the card is not applicable on preowned consoles. I guess its YMMV. Try coming back later when the guy isn't working. By the way the free magazine sucks.

Edit: Grammatical errors fixed.

I actually like Game Informer. It's much better than GamePro or EGM, IMO. It's the Gamestop policies that are sucking more than anything else.

Go back in and smash his fuckin' hand with a hammer like De Niro did to that guy in Casino. That outta fuckin' learn 'em

I think that you'll find that such issues depend entirely on who is working (clerks and managers) at the time you happen to be there. Some clerks and managers will allow combined deals and some won't. Yes, it would be nice if all of them were consistent on policies across the board, but I'm willing to bet that corporate headquarters favors the "can't combine deals" policy as a way of saving them money. If you find clerks/managers willing to do it anyway, you're ahead of the game.

I have to say that their club sounds worthless. If you cannot use the club discount on top of any specials why join the club? I'd rather keep my $20.

Personally I haven't got a problem with not being able to use my discount card for an extra 10% off when there is already 30% off. However, I do think they should have let you do the "Buy 2 get 1 free" thing. It does say ALL USED GAMES, and to be honest I doubt it would have cost them that much anyway in that case.

I'm unaware as to the actual policy for combining discounts. I do know for a fact, however, that your 10% off is always supposed to be accepted when you buy used. whoever told you otherwise is either:
a. New
B. A dickhead manager or
C. An employee who doesn't like you

As for the compounding of the 30% off and the B2G1F, it seems to be dependent on who you have ring you up. Personally, I don't mind giving you the discounts if you're not being impatient or mean as it's a good way to generate repeat business from good customers. Case in point; A guy came in and bought Chrono Triger Earthbound, and Secret of Mana. After the 30% off, his extra 10% discount and the B2G1F deal he got them all for around 28 bucks after tax. My advice to you is the next time you go in, speak with the manager about the policy so you're aware of it. I know it sucks, but as far as I can discern it's at the clerk's discretion.

The signs say nothing of combining offers. Only buy two games get one free, ask for details.

I was in the store 3 days ago and tried to get a used N64 controller marked 9.99 with a 50% off sticker. I presented my card and expected an additional 10% off the price of 4.99 and the kid told me I couldn't use my card. He was kinda rude to me so I let him have it. He was there yesterday when I tried the buy-two deal and may have had a word with the guy ringing me up just to piss me off because I put him in his place earlier.

It's the inconsistancy that's frustrating. When you go into a corporate store you expect the rules to stay the same. When the result is the whim of the dork behind the counter (no offense to any Gamestop employees here) it breeds contempt because you constantly feel like you're getting ripped off. And that isn't very good for customer relations or sales numbers.

Their policy really should be in writing and posted on the signs at the very least.

u might wanna just go in when a more competent employee is in, my gamestops let me do the % off deals with the buy 2 get 1 free.

same here. i used my card at gamestop to get 10 percent off of the b2g1free games, which i then used to exchange for ff:cc at ebgames. sucks that you had to go through this. if anything, they should have let you use the card to get an extra 10 percent off b/c that's their policy.

bmulligan, I'm not sure which Gamestops you've had these problems at, but the Novi (west oaks) and Ypsilanti Gamestops haven't given me any problems with combining offers. Haven't tried at the Brighton one yet.

I did the B2G1 +30%off(SNES) + 10%off(membership) tonight. The employee not only didn't have a problem with it, but he announced that the offers stacked while I was browsing.

tonight mine would not allow the discount card but got the 30 percent off and buy 2 get one free.

He also said watch out because they are going to sell their stuff for even lower to clear out stock

If you wait lon enough, all the 30% off stuff will eventually be Pennied out. Imagine picking up some rare SNES games and a SNES for mere pennies. Of course, the employees will get to it before you, but eh, something to watch for.

lol... true that Reality. I cant think of anything good that will get out the door for a penny!! =) maybe a few hundred SMB3, hehe.

Actually to anyone still interested, the 30% off is good on top of the b2g1 free deal. Any store not taking advantage of that is just dumb for not clearing out stock.

And the GI discount is always added on top, so for the old school stuff it is 3 discounts you should be getting.
