A GameStop Employee raises his hand...

CAGiversary!
I was wondering if anyone who is an employee at a GameStop could give me any cool stories, funny stories, weird stories, about trying to sell subs (the $15 Value card) or reserves during checkout, I'm also trying to figure out why I suck at getting numbers when it comes to subs and reserves.

The most skilled saleperson I ever encountered at a Gamestop got me to get the value card when I bought Gran Turismo 3 by throwing it in if I bought the strategy guide for 20% off. He must of sensed weakness in me when I hesitated on my "no" upon being asked if I wanted to purchase the strategy guide. Good deal, though.

I was talked into getting a value card a while back ago. I was buying a GBA SP and the guy said he'd knock $10 off the price if I got the card. This was back when it was still $10 so it was like getting one for free. However I haven't gotten another since the last one expired. It's just not worth it now that its $15.

The first guy who got me to get one gave me all kinds of freebies as incentive. He knew that I was a wrestling fan I guess because I was asking about when Smackdown "Shut Your Mouth" was coming out. Anyway, he sold me the card for $10.00 and gave me free RVD and Shane Douglas ECW figures, a copy of WCW Backstage Assult, and of course a free issue of Game Informer and 10% off my order.

I really had no use for the card at the time, and had never really been interested in Game Informer, but he sold me into the card, and I still renew it to this day, mainly for the magazine.

Well when I try to buy some penny guides the guy was like I can hook you up for free if you buy the card.

I'd get one if they discounted whatever I was buying by the same amount (like they did for dcfox) Other than that, I'd pass. Probably haven't bought anything at a GS B&M in about forever though.

That must have really paid off espcially if you bought 1001. You saved a whole penny!

A lot of my gamestops will just give me the guide if they're the smart employees that know what they're doing. I'm not sure if they're supposed to ring them through.

hate to interject a negative, but any cashier discounting your purchase aside from the 10% off you're getting with the card is shady stuff and they and their managers should cross their fingers they don't get audited, cause someone would be canned. *shrug* sorry, but thems is the facts. Plus, it screws up the rankings of those of us who are just rightfully good and honest salespeople.

salsa_shark, my meathods are patented ;) lol, but really, just ask, a lot, and don't take no for an answer unless you know for sure the customer knows what they're missing out on.

then as long as you didn't mind buying the card you both made out...I'm sure he noticed when you brought them up or at the very least when he tried to ring them up, and they technically shouldn't be sold, so by giving them to you (which also shouldn't be done, but oh well) he covers his ass *and* gets a subscription from you, heheh...amusing, but in a sad way. ;)

edit: 62t~ are you actually pro-gizmondo? because I played this game for it at E3 called sticky balls...notable mainly for the fact that it's called Sticky Balls. I don't know what that had to do with anything, but I still can't get over the title of the game being 'Sticky Balls'.
