A plead to game companies.

CAGiversary!
I wish game companies like sony and nintendo and microsoft would slow down at making consoles. I'm currently awaiting MGS 3 for my ps2 and I'm worried that I'm not going to have it for long before ps3 comes out and ps2 games just aren't cool anymore. PS1 was great because it was out for about 6 years before ps2 came out so we had plenty of time to play our games. Now the companies are jus spitting out new systems every couple of years and every time they go up in price. I love to game and I have heard rumors that ps3 will cost $400 and up. This is ridiculos because most of us gamers can't afford that and the companies will abandon their old systems and not make more games for them. So us gamers the dont have enough money to jus shell out $500+ every couple of years are taken out of the picture.
Does anyone here agree with me?

try being a pc gamer. and the ps2 will be out 5 years by the time ps3 is out., the same time between ps1 and 2. i dont see the problem. look how log support continued for ps1 after 2 came out, so if you cant buy it, wait.

I think the game companies agree with you. They lose money making and selling these new game consoles. But they need to have the latest and gratest tech to compete, so they're constantly one upping each other. Also, they're trying to dethrone the PC, which some would argue they're doing sucessfully. But Sony has said they see the PS2 going strong for another 6+ years.

Personally I'm a PC gamer. I invest all my money into that, but consol prices are unbelieveable now. I hope to get a GC on the cheap for $90 or $80 somewhere with a coupon. Or maybe buy a refurb. The xbox I got was a gift but only costs $150 now. Cheaper than a high end video card. As for the PS2, I got a used version on Ebay and have been very happy. Paid $150 but got three games too.

Sony has officially said that they want the PS2 to have a 10 year lifespan.

I'm worried that I'm not going to have it for long before ps3 comes out and ps2 games just aren't cool anymore.

How old are you?

Lol scrubking what i mean by saying they wont be cool anymore is that the companies wont think that the people will want them after the ps3 is out and they will be solely based on ps3

7 years is a typical life span of a system regardless of release dates of new systems

rumors are just that...rumors...

people actually come into my store all the time and say how their friend heard PS3 is already out in Japan..occasionally I even get some retard that says he actually played it or some other bald-faced lie

it amazing what people spew from their mouths

Like someone mentioned earlier, Ps3's going to be ~5 years after Ps2, which was 6 years after PSX. There's no problem here.

Especially when compared to the graphics card race that is the PC market.

Last I heard, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo were all shooting for 2005/2006 as the release date of their new consoles (kind of vague, I know). Each company has said it's going to release its console around the same time as its competitors, but no company has stepped up to say exactly when its console will be released, instead vaguely saying 2005 or 2006.

There's still a bit of life left in this generation, even after the new generation arrives. If we don't buy the new systems right away, it will just give us more time to play the backlog of current games we've gotten from deals. If we do buy them, there will probably be some good new games to go along with them. Either way, we'll have plenty of games to keep us busy.

Tell it.

i personally just hate the face that i buy all these games for current systems and then when i get a new system there no use. (the only ounce of respect i have for sony is backward compatability} i just dont have space for all these systems

considering systems have never made a price increase with inflation I do not see why you are complaining. Games are cheaper than they were 10 years ago ( payed 56 I believe before tax for Mortal Kombat II, and that was the cheapest in town).

quit your bitching. I personally want to see new graphics and uses for hardware to deliver a better gameplay experience. graphics from the 64 made me stop playing games (I hate blocky graphics in 3D). Thats not to say I am a graphics whore as I like 2D fighters a lot, but somethings just need to have the horsepower to deliver the experience they are trying to create

I would go 400 and no higher. At that price I would expect 2 controllers and a pack in game though.

man...talk about the good ol days...

and no shitty pack in games either....no gran turismo or freakin star wars! hook us up with something nice, ico 2 or something..

I remember my N64 came with 2 controllerrs, Mario 64, and a memory card.

My Gamecube came with 1 controller. Thats it.

In the future consoles will come without RAM, and you will have to buy it seperately.

I would rather have a console be bare-bones and cost less. Console + Controller is all I need. IF they did combo's or pack-in's there are always going to be unhappy and therefore are obligated to buy those games. I know they say they are "free" but im sure if they weren't offered, the console would be somewhat cheaper.

They should do it like back in the day with the Sega Master System: Hardcode a game into the system. They'd save money on production costs!

thats already happened(check N64 and SEGA Saturn). and unless you bought that at a special store, there was never a 64 bundle like that. 64 came out of the box with one controller, AV inputs and one controller

Consoles will never some without RAM anymore. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a console if you have to upgrade the basic system resources. The user base gets all screwed up and developers don't want that.
