A riddle/puzzle for you all
Right! So here's the full answer: A man is having lunch in the mountains and when he goes to sprinkle some pepper on his soup, he sneezes, which causes an avalanche (of snow) that kills him
:whistle2:s

I'm way confused by this thread.

Also ... TOM SERVO!!!! WOOOT!!

Not really a riddle.. a riddle is more like:

"You approach two talking doors. One door leads to the City of Truth, while the other door leads to the City of Liars. You do not know which door is which. You are able to ask only one question to determine which door is which. The door that leads to the City of Liars always speaks lies, while the door that leads to the City of Truth always speaks the truth. You want to go to the City of Truth. What question do you ask to determine which door leads to the City of Truth?"

This is no riddle. As has been said before, this is more of a 20q's thing. A riddle is where you can determine the answer by thinking of what has already been said. Here's another one for you folks then.

There is a cabin in the woods, with a hung man and a puddle of water at his feet, how did he die?

Ok - guess ill start up the next riddle.

A guy was walking down the street and he fell down. Why did a girl 5 miles away look behind her back?????

Hey door, what would the other door say if i asked it where the city of truth was?
Then go into the one that isnt the answer.
Hey door, what would the other door say if i asked it where the city of truth was?

And the reasoning behind it, because I'm bored off my arse, is that it doesn't matter which door you ask, the lying door will tell the opposite of what the truth door would say, and the truth door would say exactly what the lying door would say. Watch the labyrinth.

Here's a new riddle:
John and Mary are driving to the store to buy some lightbulbs and mashed potatoes. What's my favorite color?

Does his death have anything to do with the fact that he was hung?

I present a riddle/puzzle for your pleasure:

Note: There are no tricks or back door solutions. It's absolutely straightforward, but still surprisingly challenging to most.

Everybody has to cross the river; Maximum 2 persons on the raft at a time;
The father can not stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence;
The mother can not stay with any of the sons without their father's presence;
The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the Policeman is not there;
Only the Father, the Mother and the Policeman know how to operate the raft;

To start click on the big blue circle on the right;
To move the people click on them;
To move the raft click on the pole
on the opposite side of the river

Back on topic, the sky fell on him while he was eating.
In honor of Camoor and his avatar of the cheshire cat ..

In elementary school, there was a program in my area called STING that all of the kids with high IQs went to once a week (which, of course, included me) and we used to do these things. They called them "Stories with Holes." Here's my favorite:

A man is lying dead in a room by a table. There are also 53 bicycles in the room. What happened?
Does his death have anything to do with the fact that he was hung?
Lol, touche fellow brother, but besides that. Someone got it right before, about the block of ice. It'd be one of the worst ways to go.
He was a gambler and he cheated with an extra Bicycle brand card, so there were a total of 53 bicycle cards and he died because the others caught him cheating.

Cop & one boy, Cop & criminal returns
Man & other boy, Man returns
Man & Woman, Woman returns
Cop & criminal, Man returns
Man & Woman, Woman returns
Woman & one girl, Cop & criminal returns

E... I actually remember this one...

One Two Three Four Five Six Seven... Eight

It took me a few minutes though... I remember seeing it and solving it a long time ago, but I had to remember the answer.

I didn't remember it until I started counting the letters.

Does anyone know this one... I can't figure it out.

"You and nine other people are being held in a prison. The guards set your execution for tomorrow. They even go so far as to tell you how you will be executed. They decide that they will give you a chance to continue living. The method of execution is that they will line up all ten of you all facing one direction, so each person can only see the people in front of him. Then, they will place a hat on each person's head. The hat will be either black or white. The choice is random, and there may be any number of black or white hats, ranging from all white to all black. After everyone is hatted, they will ask the first person (person in the back of the line) what color he thinks his hat is. He cannot see his own hat. He answers, and if he is right, they set him free. If he is wrong, they execute him on the spot. Then they go to the person in front of him and repeat the procedure. They will do this for each person. After initially telling you this, you have time to discuss a strategy with your prison-mates. This is assuming there is no communication (no signals or anything) between the prisoners in the execution besides the obvious. Any given person should only know the color of the hats in front of him, what number person in line he is, what the previous people guessed for their hats in their order, and whether or not they were executed."

I remember hearing alot of these riddles when I was a kid (like the 53 bicycle one).

Here's a couple that I remember:

A man is dead in a room with only a pool of bloody water beneath him. How did he die?

A man is shot in car with all the windows up and intact and the doors locked and car is completely undamaged. How is this possible?

His wife gave birth in front of him and he died from stress.

Or he stabbed himself with ice

No, they aren't new to most of us... they just are not puzzles...there could be a million answers to the initial puzzle and they would all be valid based upon the initial statement. A puzzle should have one answer and the answer should be able to be determined by thought and no additional information as has been mentioned in this thread numerous times. The answer to that initial riddle could have been nearly anything, and it still would have fit the initial set of circumstances.

There WAS one answer. And that was that he sneezed and the avalanche killed him.

If what you said was true, I would have just accepted all those answers that I got as correct ones

The method in which you derive the answer is a little different than normal, though...

You're correct, there is one answer...but again...there is not enough information in the "puzzle" to derive what the answer is. There are millions of could be correct answers, and thus it is extremely easy to create these puzzles.
