A Zelda theory

Now, I take absolutely no credit for this great post. It was taken from www.ninty.com. I'm posting it here because I think this guy is onto something.

Over many games, Link has used different items to do different things such as the Ocarina of Time to control time, Majora’s Mask to control his form, the Minish Cap to control his size, and the Wind Waker to control the wind. These items are what keeps the recent games fresh, allowing for new gameplay dynamics, so you would think the new Zelda game for Nintendo Gamecube would contain its own special item for Link to use through his quest. In this small theory, I am going to have a go at finding out what that item could be.

I will start off with what is in focus throughout the E3 2K4 trailer… the sun. The sun continually is in the spotlight throughout the trailer. It, in parts, is directly in the shot. Watch the trailer yourself, and you will notice how many times it is.

That itself is not much to go on, so next up is something more solid, the words in the trailer.

darkness.jpg

As you see it mentions how the light is fading, then says ‘will the hero rise again?’ the word choice, here the word ‘rise’ has connotations itself with the sun, and then it goes on about ‘or will darkness reign?’ it again talks about light and darkness, the selection of words here has to do with light.

There is not much to go on, from the one trailer, but as far as I know Link has never had an item that could control sunlight. It is one of the few things not been used for a ‘special item’ so far in the series.

Like I said, this is just a theory from this guy, but I think he really is onto something. What do you guys think?

It's possible I guess, but don't forget the time of day played a fairly large role in Ocarina of Time. And the sunrise, sunset, and night have been in Zelda games for awhile. Yet I still think it's a very possible theory.

I just hope it's better than Windwaker. Zelda was my favorite series, but after that game...my interest is starting to fade. But I'll still preorder the next zelda though. :p

Whatever they decide on they better get rid of whatever I can't quite put my finger on that made windwaker not as good as other games in the series (I loved the graphics though)...oh yeah, give us more dungeons!!
I thought he had a song on the ocarina to change day to nigh, or night to day.
He did, he could also do it in Majora's Mask (of course with the Ocarina still) and there was a song in Windwaker to do the same.. I'm pretty sure. But he still hasn't completely controlled the sun to do what a small man in tights would need to do.

So will they have a light sensor cart for the GBA ala Boktai that gives you additional goodies when connected to the GameCube? In other words, the cartridge acts as a kind of proof that the player actually left the confines of the house during daylight hours and can be cashed in for bombs or something.

Quite an interesting deduction. I never thought about as in depth as this guy has but he does make sense that in every Zelda game (or at least most, I can't say for Link's awakening because I don't remember it that well since I haven't played it in a while) there has been some tool or object that LInk must use throughout his adventure. So all in all, this gur might be on to something with that sun stuff. Anyhow I think that would be pretty cool, maybe he could learn a power with the item that allows for the sun to reign/shoot down fire or something like (but then I guess it would be a little more RPGish). I can't wait for it since it looks awesome :D .

I think they were just trying to show off lighting effects.

A dark/light motif is pretty common place as far as making the analogy to good/evil, so there's little proof in that.

Ocarina of Time rocked. I'm gonna pee my pants waiting for this game. Its so pretty... and it has nice lighting effects... and Its ZELDA!! WOOT WOOT!

i heard from a friend who heard from a friend who heard from a friend you been messin around.....wait nevermind. i heard that it will be called "The Legend of Zelda: Banjo of the Sun"

Do you guys really care? I mean, honestly, you're arguing about changing night to day and vice versa when the trailer clearly states day/night as a metaphor for good/evil.

I know waht you mean. I was psyched about WindWaker. I Pre-ordered it, then when i got it, I played for an hour and haven't touched it since.

my theory is that people are stupid and liked a stupid game like Ocarins of time, and nintendo stupidly li8stend to them so the new zelda will be super stupid

and people who duslike windwaker are super stupid

and Link's Awakening is the best zelda game with an orcarina. LA>>>>>>MM>>>>>>>Pokemon Snap>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ocarina of Time

Nice job picking up on the sun, but I doubt it's as big a deal as the guy is making. At most, it'll probably be some sort of deal with the sun never rising again (eg Dark World in LttP). But only time will telll
I dunno, I just hope this game is good, as I refused to play WindWaker because the cel-shading was so flamboyantly queer.
I was playing WW last night, and I think the cel-shading is absolutely awesome. It brings back the great feeling of the old NES charm. The whole game itself is just so well done graphically.

I think making a kid Link was pretty cool and Wind Waker is a great, great game, but now is time for an adult Link. This next game is going to rock on so many levels.

If that's not sarcastic, it's pathetic.

Graphics dont make the game. But putting graphics aside, I still didnt like WW.

That is some pretty good insight. It might be the new power link gets to play with, this time around.

On a side note.... does anybody remember Nintendo showing screen shots of what the new Zelda game was going to look like (b4 WW). Using the older link for the story, they then canned it, in favor of WW. Then they made this big shit about how WW was amazing and the first time cell shading technology was ever used Cough:: dragons lair (among others) ::cough, now their going back to what was originally supposed to be the first Zelda game for Gamecube. They have had this new Zelda sitting around since the launch of the Gamecube. So either they figure they would finally release this game.... or WW didn't go as anticipated.
adult link is stupid and ruins zelda
I'd really wish you would back up your opinions and not simply state them as if they were facts. Another question, what the hell do you put on a sandwich?

Oh god, a light related Zelda game might just lead to nothing but Light Temples (I think thats what they were {from Wind Waker})

I HATED THOSE DAMN REFLECTION PUZZLES!!!
GAH!

It could be that the sun in the game shots are just for effect and to make the game look cooler (Nintendo's probably trying to make up for Wind Waker's graphics). But I guess we won't really know until the game comes out.

OOT had adult Link, OOT was the worst Zelda, the adult portions being even worse than the young link part of the game. backed up.

Also, I take sliced turkey on my sandwiches. just turkey and bread

Thats why I wanted to know how he likes his sandwiches. He seems hungry and in desperate need of some roughage.

As long as Zelda doesn't have that time traveling stuff that confused and irritated me I'll be happy. Make it more Ocarina Of Time and less Majora's Mask.

Fresh fruits provide plenty of roughage, and are tasty, too. I also recommend nuts and frosted miniwheats

bread's done
