About the feedback system: Is 80 characters enough for a description in every case?

Like the title says, I was thinking about the length of feedback descriptions that is allowed by the CAG rating system as it's currently configured, after drafting a negative feedback for a seller who has gone south in every possible sense. I didn't have a ridiculous amount to say, but 80 characters is by no means enough of an allowance to do the community any service with what I have to say about this trader. I imagine there's been other people in my shoes.

So I wanted to get some discussion going on the matter. I don't think we should be allowed to write three fat paragraphs for feedback a description, but enough room to write two or three lengthy sentences if need be is sorely lacking. As the limit stands, you might be able to write something like, "Dishonest. Refunded money but didn't pay for shipping the item back. Avoid at all costs," as an example. That's a decent description, but it lacks details that I would be interested in if I came across it while checking a trader's background. Dishonest about what? Didn't cover return shipping? Did he outright refuse? How was communication? I suppose you could always contact the person who left the feedback for further details, but that's not always an option when you have an impatient seller who wants to get rid of his item waiting on you to finalize the deal. Without spending that time, you have to take a chance on someone or miss out. And on the flip side of the coin, would you really want PM's asking about past feedback cluttering up your inbox? I know mine's already pretty full as it is.

Perhaps it would be nice if we had a complaint thread, most feedback is positive and 80 characters is more than enough but a place for people to list in paragraph form trading problems would be nice.

That's why we have a feedback system with descriptions though, so we don't need to have threads and put links in sigs to keep track of such things, like CAG's had to do before the system was in place.

The problem becomes that if the feedback length was increased people would go back to writing paragraphs for all their good trades which just clogs up the system.

Personally I'm a big fan of leaving it the way it is and if you have a question PM them about it, but a topic that allows people to bitch might also be nice.

I wasn't aware that people were writing long feedback for positive trades. But would 20 more characters really bog things down much?

Some people were writing essays for everything they traded. I think the default might be 80 characters and it might be very difficult to change, sending CheapyD a PM might be the best way to find out.

80 characters seems like a reasonable amount for now. If you are leaving a negative feedback, be sure to include the link to the trading thread where it originated. Usually there is discussion there from throughout the trade process. If not, just PM them to find out what went wrong.

Problem imo is, the instructions say to list what was traded, but usually if you do that there's no room left for any kind of response as to how the trade went. So I either end up just saying something generic like "traded games" and leaving some feedback after, or I list what was traded & try to squeeze in a "good trade" or something at the end.
