Looking to pick up one of the more recent Ace Combat games. I've never played one, but they have always looked interestings.

So...Ace Combat 4 or 5? Or others?

I just played through Ace Combat 5. It was the first game in the series I've played and I loved it. Ace Combat 4 and Zero (prequel to AC5) have a 2-player mode, so get those if that interests you. Otherwise, I strongly recommend picking up 5 if you can find it.

Played through 4 numerous times. Haven't spent much time with 5 and Zero yet, but I can say this: The way the story was presented in 4 was brilliant. The gameplay and graphics are essentially identical, and I don't think the stories are connected (loosely, maybe) so it doesn't matter where you start. Grab one and have at it...then buy the other two.

Thanks...I am leaning toward Ace Combat 4 as it is less credits at Goozex. I am totally new to the series.

How are the PS1 versions? Are they worth the time or has time simply passed them by?

HOOOH man. Walked past Fry's huge stack of Ace Combat 6 flight stick bundles yesterday and it made me sad I don't have an Xbox. I'm reaching the tipping point, though...

They're all fun games (well, I never played the very first one). Ace Combat 2 is one of my favorite PSX games of all time but it's been pretty well eclipsed by the PS2 (and now 360) versions. I'm waiting for AC6 to drop a couple bucks before I get it.

do you actually feel like youre flying around in the games or does it come off more like the world is moving around you while youre in place? i felt that way back when i rented robotech for the ps2 but ive always wanted to play a plane game where you really feel like youre in control.

It's a pretty convincing experience. The PS1 ones probably not so much anymore but I've definately caught myself leaning to one side or the other through some of the trickier canyon runs. Most of the game is in wide open skies but there's usually a couple levels that require you to fly through a canyon (to stay under the radar or something) that mix things up.
Quick question, when did Ace Combat Zero come out in the timeline? Was it after 5 and before 6?
Zero is a direct prequel to AC5.
My personal favorite was AC5 as I felt like I was the pilot and when they say "it's mobius 1" I was like "Hell yeah it's me, BE AFRAID!"
So your favorite was AC5, but you liked it when they called you the pilot from AC4? lol.

Have you played Sky Odyssey? I love that game and it really will have you sweating bullets by dodging caverns and boulders.

Ace Combat series is great, it has much more open ended flying, nothing to really stop you (except the ground, obviously).

no ive never even heard of it whats it about and whats it like?

The missions in AC 5 are great, some mission feel like you are on an impossible mission like destroying the Death Star. AC 4 is also very good. Haven't played Zero yet but I'm waiting for it to get clearanced. I also heard Ace Combat X for psp is also pretty good.

I own both Ace Combat 4 and 5, and have beat both. For some reason I didn't like 5 as much as I did 4. Couldn't quite put my finger on it, though. Still a good game.

Anyway, my vote is for AC4.
