I'm sure I'm displaying my ignorance here but -- it's just a monitor, not a TV, from what I can tell.
This, there's no tuner.

I actually have this monitor and bought it a couple months ago to play my 360 on. I can say that this monitor looks fantastic and I've gotten many compliments on it. Simple fact is, an hdtv of the same size costs a $100 more and many can't even do the 1080p that this monitor can (I don't watch tv really so I didn't need a tuner, but they do make tuners for monitors you can find on amazon).

The one and only gripe I have about it is that it doesn't have push buttons but rather lighted buttons that you 'touch.' They can be somewhat un-responsive at times but nothing that totally impedes you from doing what you need.

I bought one yesterday from Tiger Direct: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=4415284&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs

Same price, except shipping is $1.99. ...So if you don't like Buy.com, and/or if you have to pay sales tax there, Tiger Direct might be a better way to go.
This, there's no tuner.
But it does have an HDMI port. I'm not positive, but if your TV/monitor is attached to a cable/satellite box, that would do all the processing, and the TV simply acts as a display, like it does for your game consoles.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the rebate is instant (not mail-in). I could be wrong, as I've never ordered from Buy.com. I can say for certain though, that it is if you get the monitor from Tiger Direct, since I purchased it myself. The savings is listed as "Instant Savings."

Just thought I'd let you guys know how the instant rebate thing works. As for me, I want an all inclusive monitor/tv which has speakers or at least a speaker/headphone jack that I could plug in some old PC speakers to if I wanted better sound than the typically tinny monitor type speakers.

Since there are no speakers, what would be the best/easiest solution to get sound out of your consoles with this monitor?

Sorry if that's a dumb question...

Without knowing your current setup, that's difficult to answer.

You could probably ghetto it with a "3.5mm Male to 2x RCA Female" cable.

That's the exact thing I kind of asked in a roundabout sort of way and really why I prefer the two choices I've seen for going HD, which I have saved on my browser.

Both are about the same size as this monitor, but both also have the headphone/speaker jack and/or speakers to begin with, so I'd be set right out of the box.

I would personally advise against using this as a computer monitor. For movies/games/TV it's fine, but 1920x1080 for anything else is a bit too wide. I speak from experience. Just my 2 cents.

Xbox 360 has a separate audio out, i use it for my PC, 360 through the HDMI in and then i have a separate cable, you can use your existing component cable or buy a dongle that slides in under the hdmi port.

Wise from your gwave.....

Just wanted to bump this thread and let people know if they can't find this at Target for $189(on sale till Jan 2010), that this is an alternative and at the same price AND shipped FREE.

Actually, it's a 21" monitor at Target for $189.

That's exactly how I have mine setup. I've decided to move my Xbox 360 and PS3 out of the gaming room/basement to upstairs in the computer room so I can be closer to the kids rooms...

So with my current Acer 22" wide screen (no HDMI input, just VGA and DVI), I have my 360 going to the VGA input, my PC going to the DVI, and my PS3 going from HDMI to DVI via an adapter. I wish I had one more DVI or HDMI port, because right now I'm forced to manually switch the PS3 and PC cable. Might get a KVM switch to make life a bit easier..

So for sound, I hook up my Tritton AX 180's to the Audio outs to the 360 and PS3 as I need them.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe Sears has an HD switch on clearance right now, which would possibly solve your switching problem.

Actually, the monitor on sale at Target has a dedicated HDMI port on it, so if you grabbed that you wouldn't have to worry about switching back and forth.

EDIT: Here's the one Target has on sale till Jan 2010: http://www.target.com/Acer-21-5-Wide-Screen-LCD-Monitor/dp/B001IBHF62/sr=1-16/qid=1252676539/ref=sr_1_16/181-9231474-0838616?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&rh=k%3Alcd%20monitor&page=1

I also did a check for your area, IronSerif, and every store in your area has it in stock or in limited availability.

I actually bought this monitor back on the 4th of July for 169.99 after rebate and I can say it is amazing got my 360 connected and my wii via third party wii to vga cable and games look amazing if you read through comments on this monitor on newegg you will see that most people got it mainly for 360/ps3.

need a new monitor for my new rig but also want something to hook up my ps3 as well with hdmi. this seems like a good buy. deals always pop up though so i'm debating on whether or not to bite on this one.

This is really tempting. My 360 doesn't have HDMI but I do have a VGA adapter for it, and I should be able to plug in my PC speakers (which actually have good sound unlike most...subwoofer helps a lot).

I just have regular old cable in my room, any way I could get some converter to hook it up to this monitor?

I use this same monitor on my gaming PC and I love it. I haven't tried my PS3 on it, but if my PC games are any indicator you shouldn't be disappointed. I picked it up for 169.99 and it was worth every penny!

I highly recommend this monitor.

Picked it up back in June 8th off Newegg for $175.99 w/ free shipping.

Arrived with no dead pixels and have not had a single problem since then.

It only has one HDMI port, but I only play the 360 on it, so it's not an issue.

The built-in speakers are crap, but better than nothing if you have no alternative.

With the 360 having its own audio-out, you can just turn the built-in speakers down to zero and they are no longer an issue. I ended up picking up some Logitch X-540s for the audio-out and have loved them ever since; not bad at all for $76.99. The center speaker mounts just fine on the LCD as well.

Kinda burns me because I paid roughly the same amount for the 21.5" version almost a year ago..but for those on the fence, it's a very high quality monitor by Acer and i'm sure this 23" version is too.

Thanks for the info bro! Definitely not a bad price.

I don't think my wife will let me spring for this, since I just spent some cash on a PS3 slim and 4 or 5 games lol :-({|=

I think what I'll do is use an extra KVM switch from work, and hope Black Friday brings some good deals for wide screen like this. I may look into an HDMI switch too, they're not too expensive!

You're quite welcome. Keep an eye on the Kmart, Sears, Target and Toys R Us clearance threads, since there's alot of really cheap game deals to be had(like Bioshock for $4.97 @ Sears). That way you can pad your game collection without spending alot of money.

There's also a BOGO on used games $14.99 and under at Blockbuster for a couple more days still and there's alot of great games that qualify for the sale.

Now I just need to spring for this $189 LCD monitor myself, since my current SDtv is looking a lil green around the gills from getting so much use as a gaming tv I think.

The one that's on sale at Target till 2010 has had it's sale date extended until Feb. 2010 now(was Jan. 1 originally) and the price has dropped to $159.99.

It's out of stock online now(last time I checked), but it's still readily available at many Target stores.

I'm getting REALLY tempted to pick this up, but since it dropped by another $20 since I noticed it on sale I'm going to try and wait till as close to Feb. 2010 as possible before snagging one, since it may drop MORE before then.:D
