Achievements Addiction?

My rules for 1000/1000 are simple:

Has to be a game I really, really enjoy playing.
Or
Has to be a game I like that also happens to have easy achievements.

I have nearly 100k gamerscore but I don't play games that I don't like and I don't seek games that have easy achievements. Most games I only get 200-300 gamerscore on but I've played 200+ games
What does that even mean?
Intro stats courses explain that correlation doesn't imply causation, in english meaning that the fact that your buddy likes achievements doesn't mean that the achievement-addiction is actually the cause of his academic struggles. It's probably more because he is lazy or parties too much or whatever.

Personally, I've started getting 1000 on most games I play, but I still only pick games I really enjoy. Part of my approach is to beat a game, then simultaneously work on getting 1000 (if it's reasonable) on it while also starting a new game at the same time to keep the grind from becoming too much of a bore.

Also, to the person struggling at the start of BioShock, the beginning of the game is disproportionately hard compared to the rest of it. Once you get about a quarter of the way in and upgrade a bit most of the fights aren't difficult, so stick with it through the early section and you'll be rewarded with one of the best games ever made for the 360.

It feels good to get 1000/1000, but I don't inconvenience myself or turn it into work (I have a friend that does though).

I don't do achievements that have you go around an open world and collect items and shit unless they yield some kind of worth while in game reward. Also LA Noire has an achievement that requires you to go through and get the highest ranking on all cases. All this requires is time and a guide, and I think that is a bull shit achievement, I mean anyone can get it, it's just a matter of whether or not you're a big enough tool bag.

The game I am most proud of achievement wise is the original Dead Rising. I have 800/1000 I think and there are quite a few there to be proud of, but Dead Rising is a game that did achievements right, it made the game what it was. It was a sandbox story with all kinds of random activities that were actually worth doing because you'd not only get achievements but also in game rewards like a light sabre and a megabuster!

I am starting to get more and more addicted to getting achievements, but mostly only the ones that are challenging but not over the top.

I know I am a big fan of TrueAchievements.com, and go there all the time to see what achievements I have and how difficult they are for others to get. I will also go on there and see what games I have that have difficult achievements and if it is something that I would find some sort of enjoyment out of getting.

I finally went back to F.E.A.R. a couple weeks ago since I wanted to play through 1, Files, and 2 before I start up 3. I would just throw it in for a little bit each week, and chip away at the campaign on extreme difficulty. I finally got it done tonight, and I can honestly say that I don't know if I have had any other achievements that were that tough (Mile High Club in COD4 was when I first played the game, but went back a couple weeks ago and finished it on my 10th try or so). I guess I see why it has a pretty good size score on TA.

The thing I hate the most is when I get all of the single player achievements, but then there are some ridiculous online multiplayer achievements in a game that doesn't have great online multiplayer.

Over 94,000 Gamerscore and counting. Just finished boosting Army of Two last night. It's my 35th complete full retail game and I have 6 complete XBLA games heh.

I'm not obsessed...
i cant even get past the first enemy in bioshock on hard, my bullets miss (aim is hard) and the wrench just pinches him while he hits me twice and i die..
Bioshock is one of the easiest games I've ever played on hard difficulty.

Dead Space 2 hardcore mode gave me issues, but Bioshock 1/2 were cheese.

I used to be addicted to getting achievements, I don't really care about them anymore, I mean how is my gamerscore really going to matter to me in my life?
I have never even come close to any of my games to get the 1000/1000 perfect score. I see it's appeal to complete them but I didn't get bitten by that bug.
I too have yet to get a perfect score in any game or come close to it. Unlike you though, I don't see the appeal in them. I just don't understand the point of getting many of these achievements. I don't have time to look them up or to play a game many times over in order to get a perfect score. I just want to enjoy a game and getting more achievements isn't going to help me enjoy the game anymore than I already do.
It is not that hard to get 1000/1000 in Bioshock
Wasn't Bioshock one that had 1020 GS? I can't remember but I got pissed off because I thought I did the last achievement but it didn't unlock without using the chambers.

For me achievements/trophies don't matter. Now I do look through the achievement/trophy list of the game and I see what is there. If a lot of it is like try x thing that adds a small challenge to the game, I will do it for fun because it's like an extra challenge to extend the fun of the game.

If it's like Nier where it's collect all weapons or get 5,000,000 dollars. Then fuck no because that's work, not fun.

Bioshock has 1100GS points. I think the extra 100GS was from a free DLC they released (that added new plasmids) and they added one achievement to beat the game on hard without vita-chambers (one of the new features in the DLC was to disable the vita chambers). So if you had already beaten the game on hard for 1000GS and then got the DLC you'd have to do it again to get the vita chamber achievement.

But if you were starting Bioshock from scratch after the release of the DLC, you could get all 1100GS in one go.
I have my text message sound as achievement unlocked
I don't know how I've gone this long without getting that sound for mine. I'll be looking into that today. I have an almost Pavlovian response to that sound.

As far as achievements go, I'll go out of my way to get any that seem reasonably possible for me to get, but I've never obsessed about getting 1000/1000. At the moment, The Saboteur is still the only game I've done that with, although I'm one cheevo away on Portal 2 and I should be unlocking that one soon. Otherwise, I like seeing my GS for each game go up, but it's not a deal breaker if I see ahead of time that a game has several achievements I KNOW I won't get. Slightly annoying maybe, but that's about it.
