I went to my local TRU and found Action Replay Max for PS2 with price tags saying "was $29.99 now $1.98". I didn't pick it up though because of the bad reviews at Amazon. Gamecube and Xbox were still 29.99 though

It was green tagged at the TRU I went to two days before Christmas and got it for $4.99. Cool, it includes Max Media Creator to install on your PC so you can burn CDR's to play video files on your PS2. PLUS you can put SEGA Genesis roms on a CDR and it has a Genesis emulator to play Genesis games on your PS2 and the games are saveable on a PS2 memory card. That's well worth $5 to me. I was thinking of buying a couple more if I ever go back.

Any use to this besides cheating? Can it play imports?

at my toyrsus the normal max rings up 33, and the Max with the usb drive is 24.98

Thanks OP! Picked up 2 at my TRU for 98 cents apiece. There were still a handful left.
Are you sure you guys are picking up the right ones? There's a newer version called EVO. That's not the one you want.
Strangely, the UPC on the item differs from the one on the receipt. The one on the item is 850006000548. The UPC on the receipt reads 850006000517.

I figured out what the diference is. The 850006000548 comes with a bonus 8 MB memory card, and this is the one on sale. The other one is just the stand-alone Action Replay.
