"It causes a lot of people, including me, great distress to see judges use the authority that they have been given to make raw political or ideological decisions," he said. Sometimes, he said, "the Supreme Court has taken on this role as a policymaker rather than an enforcer of political decisions made by elected representatives of the people."

Cornyn continued: "I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection, but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. . . . And I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters, on some occasions, where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in, engage in violence. Certainly without any justification, but a concern that I have."

Seems he's talking about the shooting in an atlanta court room. So, let me get this straight, a man on trial for rape decides to lash out and start shooting people not because he's a violent person, but because he's politically frustrated?

And yet, I'm positive if someone shot at one of the Republicans who interjected themselves into the Schiavo case, this guy would still find a Democrat to blame.

So, senator John Cornyn is concerned that the general public is seething with resentment at judges who have overstepped themselves? This, after opinion polls (http://www.gallup.com/poll/content/?ci=15541) asking Americans if they approved of Congress' intervention in the Shiavo case indicate clear disapproval of such?

Once again, I am baffled. I don't understand why anyone takes Cornyn seriously, at all, in this matter.

The Daily Show coverage of the matter was good, as expected. It was last nights episode so it'll be on again tonight after tonights episode.

A comic in todays newpapper here had "In Activist Judges" because of tramp family down there in Florida.

But remember...
Women's rights leads to gay rights leads to fucking animals.
Science destroys religion.

And I love how no one realizes the true point of the Supreme Court. Been the same way for 200 years and seemed to work perfectly fine to me.

"But I think we need to change it, you know they let those damn negros free in the 60s we need to fix this now!" - Crazy Asshole Republican

The guy is from fucking Texas! I wish they were their own damn country, we don't need their shit anyways.

If you take away the Supreme Courts ability of Judicial Review you cripple them. Checks and Balances are about pissing people off, it makes sure that politicians don't always get their way.

Say, while we're at it taking away any power of the judicial branch, let's just let the republicans control everything. I mean what's the point of government. It just gets in the way.

Now I know someone's gonna say that I'm being melodramatic. Kind of like saying that if you allow gays to marry then soon people will want to marry kids or animals? Or perhaps that since Teri Schiavo died we're going to start executing everyone with a lower quality of life?

No you are right. Sadly the Republicans don't give a fuck about this country and will destroy it, and the world, to get more power. All the democrats do is sit there bitching and never stand up for themselves.

People on the far right or left can never find common ground. That has been the biggest problem in this country for some time now. I think you will see more moderates in the future because people are getting tired of the BS from both sides.
