Advantages to owning a Mac?

^ I was just about to mention that, was a huge selling point for me. The Mac Genius Bar if you have a Mac Store near you is nice as well. My keys are a little messed up from crumbs, dust, etc. and bad attempts at cleaning on my Macbook and they are giving me a whole new keyboard free of charge under the warranty without any hassle of sending it in somewhere.
Ehh...that argument only applies if that software is NOT part of the Adobe suite. Consider my friend who primarily uses Photoshop/Illustrator/Flash. The OS has absolutely no bearing on how effective you are in a cross-platform program. She's worked on G5's and she's worked on PCs. Apart from Macs being "prettier", she is as productive on either platform.

The weakest link is always the user, not the platform.
Like I said, this is going on what I see (I don't even own a macbook yet and I'm not an artist.) I imagine it completely depends on the art you work with. There are a bunch of great mac exclusive programs for music. and not to stereotype, but artists usually don't want to wrestle with windows related shit, so that's another reason.

also prebuilt desktops PC's are beige/black/gray and boring and then you have "custom" cases that are usually hideously neon and tacky :bomb:

no kidding. The best case I could settle for when I built my PC was a boring one. There are so many gamer cases that look like they're designed by 12 year old boys who think neon is the awesomest thing ever.

If you can make an intelligent comment about the OP's thread, please do so. If you're going to make some useless, smart-ass comments, go elsewhere.

I do video editing. Everyone in the industry uses a Mac. There's a handful of PC folks, but anyone who can afford to run their video editing business on a Mac does so.

They look all right?

Can't think of why you'd buy one over a PC.

All the useful design stuff is also on PC if you were worried about that. A lot more pricey for what you get. You can't build your own/customize (as in take the case apart, switch out your motherboard, cpu etc.)

One thing that really bugs me is that while one program is doing something, you can't do anything else. ie. If you were using word in Windows and it does that thing where it turns white and says program not responding, you can still use your other stuff while waiting for it to see if it comes out of that. When that happens on a Mac (and maybe its just bad luck for me, but it seems to happen every time I use one) it puts up that little colorpinwheel thing and you can't do anything until it resolves. Because of this, it also makes it seem like macs load a hell of a lot slower.

It seems like anything that isn't Adobe likes to lock up. Using Maya and Word on a mac was a nightmare for me. Rendering would take forever on a mac speced similar to my PC that would take maybe an hour for the same animation. Word likes to crash or lock up causing you to use Force Quit.

I haven't looked into the system stuff too much, but off the top of my head I haven't seen some of the more useful OS tools such as the registry editor or system restore points. Someone might say that oh macs don't need that stuff because they are so stable and awesome, but even if you really do feel that way (obviously I don't) it is extra options that you don't have that are very nice if you screw up your drivers.

I realize you asked why would you want to get a mac, but I guess the why not naturally comes with it.

y0 chex20 thanks for that.. damn I guess I'll be waiting for an announcement come Oct. 14th sigh. in the market for a new lappy as this one the LCD busted (my fault) and I just want to get rid of it now. Also the resell is huge, year olds only go for like $200 less than retail, amazing. I read a review on amazon saying a guy buys a macbook yearly, resells before the one year warranty is up and buys another, no need for applecare lol.

If you are savvy, just go for Linux...shit ton more open source packages (programs) that you don't get raped on with prices...

Currently on my Gateway laptop I'm using, I have GRUB as my OS loader and have Ubuntu...though I use Vista more than anything at the moment. Sometimes I don't feel like dicking with compatability or having to force architecture for an x86 program to work with my 64bit Turion. Though its nice that I can take advantage of both dual 64 CPUs
