Advent Children reminds me of why I hate anime.
Everybody has their likes and dislikes.. if you dont like anime dont watch it, its as simpel as that. and if you do watch it. dont complain about it..
What's the logic in that? What made you come to the thread in the first place, with a title like this, to post what you did?
Seems like you have trouble living up to your own standards.
What's wrong with those shows ??, actualy. nvm.. im not going to start a discussion.. as i said.. everybody has their likes and dislikes. and im not gona judge ppl..
Exactly, there are so many different styles and types of Anime I find it a bit hard to swallow that those who hate anime ever gave it much of a chance. Either that, or they are trying to watch the style of anime which they wouldn't like even if it were live action (ie crazy, cute zany comedy smash mix!!!).

I could say something like "Sports suck and they aren't worth following" when a more accurate thing for me to say may be "I hate the NBA, a bunch of over-payed men playing a kids game" or "Curling sucks, what kind of skill does that take?" Someone may get turned off to sports because of that, and then missing out a type of sport they could love like Wrestling (I guess if you like a fusion of pain, theatre, and soap opera) or baseball or maybe even Golf(for some reason).

I'm sorry, who are you?
Who are YOU?
Don't you have a movie to watch on your PSP or something?
Ok... Wouldn't it just make more sense to not watch anime and quit wasting time with all this bitching about how not real it is?
Maybe, but being on a site where it seems like half the forum topics are anime related, it makes us anime-haters want to vomit and need a place to vent.

Nvm.. :whistle2:# .. Im just dumb..

Um.. Advent Children might remind you of why you hate anime.. but I'm pretty sure its not anime.

As for anime to watch... its sounds like you enjoy more "realistic" anime. Or something with a plausible plotline. So, I will recommend Golgo 13. Also, maybe give Samurai X a try (the movies not the TV show). Finally, this seems to be more of an anime geared toward a younger audience, but I thought it was very well-done: Spirited Away.

Oh and how could I forget.. this may just be a trend with people I know, but everyone I know that liked Akira, enjoy Ghost in the Shell (the movie) so maybe give that a try as well.

(P.S. OMGZ in my sig therez t3h anim3 furry cat-girl1!1!! I should b sh0tted 0n site!1!1one!!)

Kind of off subject, but did the release date for the Advent Children DVD release in the U.S. get pushed back again? I read somewhere that it might get released in March instead of January now.

The only thing worse then anime is Hentai. That shit is fucking gross.

If I wanted to see a 10 year old chick with bug-eyes getting fucked by a blob with tentacles, I'd video tape Dakota Fanning getting raped by Sally Struthers- at least that shit would be real.

If it takes a drawing to get you off, you official fail. At everything. Ever.

Wonder what the hold up is, dub can't be taking that long since it wasn't exactly a dialogue heavy movie. And I agree seems like the OP got saddled with a bunch of fantasy action shows when a realistic approach was what was needed. Off the top of my head I would say the best one to give a shot in that area is Jin-Roh

I really dislike a majority of the Anime I end up watching while others just can't seem to get enough.

My favorites are Full Metal Panic, Samurai Champloo, Outlaw Star, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and that is about it. I can and do watch these over and over and ...

Some I really dislike that seems to be pretty popular is Trigun (I hate this), Crono Crusade (hate this more), Magical Shopping Arcade (worst I have ever seen), Metropolis (snooze), Spirited Away (eh), Princess Mononoke (ZZZzzz...), ... the list goes on.

Not sure if it counts as anime or not, but by far the worst movie/anime I have ever actually made myself sit through was Final Fantasy.

Why am I not surprised that this topic inspired so many posts?

This thread helps remind me why I hate the internet. ;)

While I agree with many of your points, to hate an entire form of animation based on only a few steriotypes seems a bit foolish and closed-minded. It's akin to saying "I hate movies". Anime can have just as much variety if you know where to look.
*nods* Unless you hate animation, the very look of it, in general, you can't hate all anime. There is at least 1 show out there you'll enjoy. (And if you don't believe me, just tell me what your favorite movies are. I'll find an anime you like. :D )
I've watched more than one episode of, and hated, all of the following, as well as a good dozen others that I can't remember the names of:

- Something about tarot cards and giant robots
- Gundam somethingsomething
- Something a lot like Record of Lodoss War...
-Escaflowne.
-Most likely Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, or G Gundam.
-Either Record of Lodoss War, Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, or The Slayers is my guess.

I blame it on the weird creepy Japanese (or asian) fetish the people either develop while watching anime, or have prior to watching anime on a regular basis.

A good majority of anime fanboyism stems from the same psychology that gives us 'underground music fanboy' and 'unreleased film fanboy', etc. They believe that by being into something most people are not, they must therefore be superior and not one of the masses. This is also how people delve into owning every anime series ever created, memorize directors, illustrators and voice actors and how they finally determine that anime is the only visual entertainment worth watching.

"The more I'm into anime, the more superior I am"

I was really into anime back in the early to mid 90's( way before anime showed up on cartoon network and fox kids) but after a while it just seemed all the same and I grew tired of the cartoony animation but with the recent strides that anime has made due to CGI, ( ff advent child) it has definetly caught my attetion again, my personal favorite right now is the new Apple Seed, ( the first few minutes, from the very beginning up through the end of the opening credits is enough to get somone hooked) I had the original on VHS many years ago but this version just blows it away... I also perfer stand alone movies over whole series.....

Not to mention that Anime's "deep" plots are the perfect candy for the pseudo-intellectual.

....I just like cartoons. And it's nice to watch some that aren't all fart jokes intended for 5-year olds. *shrugs*

First off, hate is such a strong word. Just because you dislike many american cartoons, doesnt mean there isnt some gold ones in the mix.

Now ill say what i dislike, people who hate animated media for not being realistic. I mean thats the whole point of it, you can accomplish so much more that cant be done by movies with actual people in them....

Ill admit, i dislike flying crap too, like dragonball Z, but i wont let things like this deter from the show. For instance Bersek, one of my favorite animes. It has many "fake" elements like demons and incredible strength, but the story to it is actually really good, and it can provide some very insightful moments IMO.

You also cant forget the context this stuff stems from, Japan. I take a Japanese Religion course in college, and its plain to see that a lot of the mythology and stuff in anime is very releated to the culture and the folk religious beliefs from long ago, that are being transferred to new generations in a new way.

Now im not here to try to convert you into liking anime, thats just stupid and a waste of time. Its not like i gain anything from you watching or not watching anime, all im saying is, if you look at things from a different perspective, you might enjoy them a little more(and that extends beyond anime).

What's wrong with the ones that are all fart jokes and intended for 5 year olds?
:D

I didn't say "all" I said "a majority".

The OP hates anime cliches because the OP has watched a lot of popular anime with a lot of anime cliches present, including Advent Children.

You forgot to add demon tentacles that come out or into vaginas where the victim ends up oddly pleasured... that happens in more than a few anime.

i like a lot of anime for just popping it in and casually watching. but my homie is obsessed with it and he always tries to tell me how much more deep it is and in my opinion, much of it (nowhere near ALL, but much) is the recycling of very similar themes. hey i'm not sayin he-man was a masterpiece either but i get tired of the big eyes and "huh's?" after a while.

whatever, to each their own. i'm gonna check out advent children for sure.
