After Falcon Comes Jasper (65nm GPU in August '08)

lol

So now all of those people who waited for falcons, for 360s to be "more reliable", will now wait for jaspers before they take the plunge and finally buy a 360.

Hardware constantly improves, people. PS2 and XBox also had hardware revisions but nobody made such a big deal out of it except modders.

The irony being that the July '07 heatsink fixed the problem.

Regardless of whether it fixed it or not, some people still waited for the new Falcon motherboard.

Maybe. I'll believe it when they've been in use for at least a year.

That's true, but it seems like 360s have such a higher failure rate than PS2s or Xboxs. If the failure rate weren't so high, I'd be a proud owner of a 360, but the fact that all my friends who've had a 360 for over 6 months got the RRoD turns me off.

Edit: But there's no way I'm waiting for Jasper...

The PS2 and Xbox didn't fail like the 360. I doubt that even the PS2 DRE problems compare. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to wait for a hardware revision that doesn't crap out within weeks of purchase.

No, 65nm GPU chips. CPU will still be 65nm.

Remember waiting months for the elusive "Falcon" chipset, which was supposed to fix all the Xbox 360's woes, solve world hunger and cure cancer? Well now there's a new ghost in town: the "Jasper".

According to Takahashi, Jasper will land in Xbox 360s in August of 2008, and have a 65-nanometer graphics chip from ATI, smaller memory chips. Less heat, and less expense for Microsoft means (hopefully) more stable Xbox 360s, and a potential price drop.

Currently, the Xbox 360 Elites on the Market have Zepher, and the new HDMI enabled Xbox 360s will have Falcon, essentially allowing for the potential for less heat related problems. Should you wait until next year to buy a new Xbox 360? Not necessarily. Considering the newer systems landing on store shelves will improve the heat issues quite a bit already, even though Jasper will be even better, according to Takahashi's Microsoft contacts, "From their point of view, you don’t have to wait until Jasper to get a reliable machine."

Was just thinking about posting this and then saw ur post.

Wonder if people are still going to wait for these, would be sort of hard to wait for a year for a 360 while everyone else is playin mass effect, bioshock, halo 3, and GTA (when it comes out) not to mention the myriad of other games coming out.

I can't imagine waiting for a 360 with the games out now.
