alienware deals

CAGiversary!
i know this is CAG and that we should probably be inherently opposed to costly alienwares, but my parents decided to fund a computer for me as a college graduation gift. i went onto their site to build something (i have about 2000 to spend) and saw that they have a 400 dollar off coupon and free shipping, which comes to over 500 off when its all said and done. wasnt going to get the computer now, as im starting grad school soon and thought i should wait until im fully emerged in that, so i wanted to wait awhile and build one months down the line, but damn is that deal ever sweet.

my question is, how often does alienware offer these kinds of savings with free shipping, a free copy of hl2, stuff like that? im sure free shipping and games comes along frequently, but savings up to 400 off (the system i would design qualifies for 400 off btw) is hard to pass up. should i go ahead and wait in hopes that a similar deal will return in the future, and how long should i wait before i break down and build one?

also, just for fun, any reccomendations on technologies i should wait for as well, i know pci express is pretty new, but are new types of ram or processors on the horizon, or new video card techs that are must have coming up?

PCI-E isn't that new, but for AMD it is. Neforce4 is really new which is coming in to support PCI-E for the s939 64bit Athlons.

Never really hear about Alienware deals. But still... 400 off one of their comps is a nice deal.

actually i was in the same boat, but it was about the 500 $ coupon in november
i have the money to spend and was seriously considering it, but every so often they do these deals
last week it was 10% off
this week it is 300$ off aurora 5500 and
500 off area 51
so if you can wait then i would suggest to do so
also, ive noticed that alienware stopped offering the x800 xt and xt pe for graphics cards so if you want ati stuff you might have to wait
also the coupon for $ off ends tomorrow so you could just do what i do and set a price (for me it is 2500) and if the coupons can get the computer down to that price i will bite,
just a thought
I dont have any Alienware deals, but if you don't have your heart set on an alienware, i'd suggest checking out www.ibuypower.com they have PCs much cheaper than Alienware, and I like them better.
I suggest using dells gaming system configurator because ive hear bad things about ibuypower such as not some coming with the wrong parts, not working/not starting, coming 2 months late (thats unacceptable) etc.

I'm not sure on the frequency of Alienware's offers. I do have one myself from about a year, year and a half ago. My current PC setup, which is just about a year old is self-built. I'd suggest the latter.

I can pick exactly what I want and it actually comes out cheaper than Alienware's. Nice systems though. I have that Alienware in our LAN in the guest house so we can have some nice multi games going. Holds up pretty well for an older system. And they've got really solid tech support.
