All new Gamecube inventory changed to used @ Gamestop

CAGiversary!
Today we cleared out all of the new GC sku's for EB/Gamestop. Everything that was new is now at the used price, saw some games drop as little as 50 to 45 and others go from 30 down to 5$ at the used price. Check out your local stores, depending on what they had new, can get some pretty good games at the used price that are really new games + edge card will stack.

I got pumped for this but then I realized their used prices are that great to begin with. Looks like I'll still be using half.com to get my GCN games.

Hmmm... I wonder what GC games my GS still has new/sealed.

I already ventured over there once today to pick up my preorder of Oblivion, I doubt it's worth another journey.
I'd like to think that someone at Nintendo would let the GC go out on a better note than that. Maybe put out a port of a crazy Japaneese game that was never released here or something. Oh well.
We COULD have had Radio Allergy some time in the beginning and middle of this year. But because of retailers, especially GameStop (who was mentioned by the developers themselves), they refused to carry a new game for a system that was gonna die.

Despite them later carrying all the god awful movie game multiplatform ports.

I dropped by a GameStop earlier today. I overheard them planning on switching all the games over to used.

For some reason Gamestops around here are also putting Player's Choice stickers on the cases of many Gamecube games, Player's Choice or not, $20 or not.
Seems like no one ever releases a good game as the last game on a system.
I don't know if this was the last game per se, but IGN's last review for the PS1 was Final Fantasy Origins, which was a pretty good last hurrah.
I watched a girl tell an interested customer last night that she better pre order teh GHIII for Wii.

"because when GHII came out we got our reserve copies and didnt get the game back in stock for four months"

Like she cant go somewhere else and get GHIII.

Anyway carry on.
This is what makes me embarrassed to say I actually worked at a GS before. Bunch of idiots, LOW pay, forced to sell preorders and shit, just a bunch of BS. NEVER AGAIN.

PSOne's last game was a Soccer game.

It wasn't the last game, I don't think, but Yoshi's Island was one of the last games for the Super Nintendo as I understand it and as a result it was overlooked by most even though it was a great game. There, I think, is your answer as to why Nintendo doesn't "go out with a bang" on the Gamecube.

That theory made no sense, because technically Zelda:TP was their last GCN game, so yeah. That was pretty much this system's swan song.

What this means is that Gamestop is going to gradually reduce the price on Gamecube games, though they will continue to carry them. They will dramatically reduce trade in values for most games as well.

They did this with Xbox.

This is actually good news for us who are aware of what is going on. We all expect a BUY2GET1 sale is coming, possibly Black Friday. Save your monry and buy up the Gamcube games then. They have nearly 200 Gamecube titles for less than $10 when in stock, I belive that is roughly a third of all Gamecube games. I think less than 100 titles sell for more than $20 and over the next six months many of those will be reduced (anything that does not have Mario in the title). We saw similar price changes with the N64 with the Mario Party/Tennis/Kart games holding there higher price for a couple years after the 64's demise.

This is the time to collect Gamecube. Start with the cheap-ones and wait for the price drops on the more expensive...
Come on, they let the N64 die with a port of the PS1 version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Nintendo doesn't know how to go out on a good note. Seems like no one ever releases a good game as the last game on a system.
If I recall correctly I believe the Sega Saturn had Shining Force III as their last game released, however I may be wrong. It was real close to the last one if I am wrong...
IMO it was a great game even though they only released the first disc here.

I don't think that was the last game...I'm pretty sure Magic Knight Rayearth is the actual last game that was released (and a pretty fun game at that).

And tangy, I think the last game released for the Dreamcast (here, at least) was NHL2K2...and while that might not be everyone's cup of tea, it was a great game in itself as well. So if the Saturn and Dreamcast are any indication, just blame other console makers for not being as awesome as Sega used to be ^.^

I'm going to cross my fingers and see if I can a "used" copy of Smash Bros. Melee on the cheap. I will also be hoping for the second coming of Christ. I think there's a greater chance of the latter.

I'm pretty sure last time I was there and laughing at the gamecube used prices SSBM was around $34.99 used. Might be more now, though.

MKR was indeed the last commercially released Saturn game in the US.

HOWEVER, MKR and NHL2K2 being released as the final games on the Saturn and Dreamcast were highly disappointing. Especially when Sega was promising us Shenmue II would be the game taking that spot for the Dreamcast.

What happened? Peter Moore stepped in and said "Nah, the US will get it on Xbox instead. It'll sell better." Not only were fans pissed, but Dreamcast then drifted into obscurity as the 2K brand wasn't doing so red hot at that time (whereas it did better during the Dreamcast's early and mid-life). In fact, NHL2K2 wasn't received very well with the critics, either.

It's still $35. Mario Kart Double Dash outdid it by being sold for $39.99.

This is a good deal in theory but when was the last time GS/EB had any worthwhile new GC games in stock?

At least Moore put up an open-letter apology on Sega's site around that time about Shenmue 2 being pulled (which yea, that was pretty crushing, considering earlier the day I saw that I specifically remember reading a preview in like, EGM or something where they said the game was 98% ready at that point - probably actually gold by the time the cancellation was actually announced)

And as far as NHL2K2 is concerned, all I remembered from back then was IGN's review here: http://dreamcast.ign.com/articles/324/324462p1.html
9.2 hardly seems like a lukewarm reception.

*sigh* Maybe if Sega had realized you could play burned games on the DC without any modding sooner we'd have gotten up to 2K5 or so :(

Anyway, being a bit more on topic - figure I'll go grab Mario Sunshine with some leftover credit to help keep my attention until Galaxy is out. I also saw that Megaman Network Transmission is only listed at 4.99 on their site - is it any good, keeping in mind the price?
It wasn't the last game, I don't think, but Yoshi's Island was one of the last games for the Super Nintendo as I understand it and as a result it was overlooked by most even though it was a great game.
Really wasn't one of the last games. It was released in 1995, SNES lasted till '98 with it's last game being Frogger.

I'll clear it up more with what I said, it's usually a sports game or some crappy game that ends on a system. I doubt THQ will release that Power Rangers game on the GC, so that means that both the GC & Xbox died with the annual Madden '08 being it's last game. As for NHL 2K2 being the last DC, while decent, the audio problems are what destroyed that game for me. It was obvious the game was rushed out.

Decent for $5. It's the price I picked it up at in march(then they jacked it up to $8 until last month). It plays much like a old school Mega Man game, although there is one flaw with the game. The weapon chips are completely random. So that means that if you need one certain weapon for a boss battle, you'll probably keep dying until you get the right chip.

That $5 off no minimum coupon that worked the weekend of the Final Four was insane. I bought like half my GC games then.

My Gamestop still has "new" Xbox games, and none have received any good price drops.

What this means is that Gamestop is just going to charge us up the ass for crappy used games that are probably broken in half.
same here I argee with 100% worst job ever.
*Shrug* I still work at GS. Yeah, it really does suck, but atm it's probably the best job that works well with my school schedule. But once I get my bachelors next year, it's goodbye GS.
but with ebay you cant beat the game w/in 7 days return it and get your $$$ back ;)
True, but for me, 7 days is enough to time to beat a game like Portal, anything else and I'm well past those 7 days.
What are the most collectable GameCube games?
im just going to list some games that are hard to find and/ or will cost you alot to get

mario tennis ( still pretty expensive)

Zelda collectors edition ( zelda 1&2, OOT and MM) expensive and somewhat hard to find

OOT & Ura Zelda ( hard to find and expensive)

Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast ( hard to find and expensive)

alot of the mario titles tend to still be pricy yet not too hard to find same for tp and ww.

Speaking of wacky GS pricing, I just noticed this recently. Mercenaries is priced at $9.99 for the Xbox and $29.99 for the PS2 (used). Backordered on the website, but some of the local stores have it on the shelf at that price, most in GH boxes no less. I could go that route, or...drive down the street and get it at BB (or Walmart, or online, or anywhere) for $20. Boggles the mind.

I can't even get RID of a NIB GC and now GS is gonna dump their GC stock? Ahhhhh well......nothing like making a $85 mistake to teach me not to blow money on a system I'll never play. I could never get the hang of using the GC controller on my buddies system, with all its little, wacky buttons.

I mean, I know it might've been made that way to be kid friendly, but damn did the placement of those buttons suck ass.
That $5 off no minimum coupon that worked the weekend of the Final Four was insane. I bought like half my GC games then.
I meant regular prices, but yeah that coupon was indeed awesome since I too stacked up on a crap load of GCN games.

I was at gamestop in store and they had about 3 or so gutted copies of odama (case still looked mint) so I assume so, but they were priced at 9.99 used without the microphone

When we gutted our Odama's we just put the box out and kept the game sealed w/microphone in the drawer, sticker still said w/o mic but we had them, might not hurt to check if they did the same.

Looking at their site's GameCube section, you can see their New section is now made up of only accessories and guides. Pretty much confirms now that this isn't YMMV and that they are indeed turning everything new to used.
Seems silly to stop selling new Gamecube games with all the people buying them to play on the Wii.
There probably aren't any more new GC titles being released.
Went to three GS's last night. Didn't find any games, but did manage to score a set of Component Cables for $4.99.
i'll buy that from you, if you are not going to used it.
No no. Most mario titles will only have dropped about $5. Not TO $5.
Ya so their still a whopping $35.....its crazy that Mario Kart DD is STILL that expensive.
Couldn't they just drop the price without changing them to used?
No, because they couldn't have the sick pleasure of ripping open all the copies, strangling the instruction manuals with shinkwrapping, and covering the vinyl cases with hideous stickers. Part of working for GS is being a game torturing sadist.
GHII was pretty scarce a lot of places, it wasn't regularly stocked for a few months during the shopping season, but if you were persistant it could be found. Apples to oranges. When GHII came out, the franchise was a cult one at best. GHII's popularity came out of left field.

I'm sure there will be plenty of GHIII to go around.

My local GS has Odama with the mic "used" for 12.99. Apparently the decision to split up the game from the mic is up to the individual store.
