Alone in the Dark - Gen. Discussion & Info

I must be the only one who liked this game...

@destinywaste: Yea, you can skip chapters, the levels are presented in the pause screen as if it were sections/scenes of a DVD and they have buttons you'd normally find on a remote. So you can skip past entire chapters via that menu, it'll just place you at the next part but you lose all your items except for you gun, flashlight and lighter.

Thanks distgfx. Played through the first chapter and so far so good. The camera angles are frustrating at times and the character walks too slow. Those are the major annoyances so far. Going by the reviews there are plenty more to follow. The inventory system is one to be commended and the fire effects/lighting is very good. I'm playing this with no expectations hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

You can always run by holding A :D

I realized that, once I was dangling from a live electrical wire and a car shot into the air from the street and hit me at about 18 stories up and killed me, I was done with this game. However, I trudged through the rest of the chapter and thoroughly despise the controls for this game.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I think, for me personally, it was the parking garage. The cable dangling was kinda intense (and cheap). I played through the first forgivable "boss", but in the parking garage, during that one jump, my car lodged in the ground when it landed. It was stuck in a slant (like \ ), and I had to jump out and find another car.

When I arrived where I needed to, and this is one of the funnier moments in the game thus far, this HUGE boss spawns, and you're like oh god, but then a random ball of fire falls on him and kills him. I think that they spawned him too far away and that the fire was coming down for you to use to kill him, but for some reason or another, the fire spawned on the guy. I dunno. The whole game's just a big, giant glitchfest.

It's almost to the point where I'm playing now just to see what glitch will happen next.

I somehow managed to beat this game. I still feel ripped off at the $4 it cost to rent this POS.

The controls, story, gameplay, environments, driving sequences (I could go on forever) all sucked ass. The game is beyond frustrating, but only because it's so broken. If the controls weren't so fucked up, I'd give this a like a 6.5/10.

The ending (if you can even call it that) was so lame I don't think I've ever seen one worse. It makes the endings of KOTOR 2 and Halo 2 seem epic in comparison.

I managed to snag 935/1000 Gamerscore, so it wasn't completely worthless.

3.5/10. Avoid at all costs.

Demo is up. Tried it out and I have to say, it was actually pretty good.

Maybe they selected the few good parts for the demo? Or was the game patched up?

I forgot this was a thread!

Well, I Gamefly'd it and beat it in 5 days. I skipped both driving levels and got all the achivements except the Chapter Completion for the 2 driving levels, Beat the Game w/out skipping, and the first-person driving one.

It was an okay game, even though technically it was fucked up beyond all recognition.
Also?

"I'M THE fuckING UNIVERSE!"

In the demo, I don't get what you are supposed to do. I wake up and I am led by this guy up the steps. When I get up the steps, a whole rips up on top and the guy beats me up and the game restarts. What am I doing wrong?

That happened to me the 1st time. Just keep going forward even when the wall rips, that worked for me

Never played the demo, only played the game. If you have patients its easy to get a 1000 gamerscore in it. The game has broken and clunky controls, and some glitches. Though I think I was hooked on it because I have not played a survival horror game like it since RE Code Veronica. Still, I wish I had my time back instead of 1000 gamer points.

I played the demo just now and I have to say it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

So far the only problem I have with the demo is that the controls are a bit sluggish and the transitions between third and first person are a bit jarring—I just wish the game would stay in one perspective that I choose.

What happens later in the game that results in people stating that the game is horrible?
