Looks like Amazon PM'd the Android store prices for the daily specials that are running at Google's own app store.

Good if you have gift cards to spend, or if you missed ones from prior days (some apps that are again full price at the Android Market are still 10 cents at Amazon)

You can use it, you just have to sideload it. Which takes... five minutes, give or take.

Also, Amazon's free App of the Day is the Corona Indie bundle. Five games bundled into one app
 
On the Fire, everything you have bought from the Amazon store shows up on the Cloud shelves.

There's more stuff in the Android Market than in the Amazon app store, but a large proportion of the stuff there won't work on the Fire.

I'm no stranger to jailbreaking but IMHO rooting the Fire does not look to be worth the hassle. There's no camera, no microphone, and very limited storage space. It's already clear to me there's going to be plenty to play with from the Amazon store.
 
I have an iPhone for the main apps, I just want to root mine for the heck of it and so I can have access to the android marketplace.
