I just received an email about this from Amazon.

PlayStation 3 120 GB purchase limit policy
As you may know, the PlayStation 3 120 GB is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase PlayStation 3 120 GB, we are limiting the total number of PlayStation 3 120 GB units that can be purchased. As a result, each household may only purchase one PlayStation 3 120 GB unit. See additional policy details here.

Of course if you don't like the slim, you could get the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Limited Edition Bundle (160 GB) for $339.99 with free shipping using coupon code 6FWJ247J1P44CK at Dell.

But there are fun little details about the slim coming out... like it now supports TrueHD or DTS-HD MA without converting it to PCM first. Like the fact it could have a faster chip for "faster gaming".

But the Drake bundle is a steal considering what it cost two weeks ago.

Compared to two weeks ago. But compared to now, it's still overpriced at $340. BUT with the PS3 price cut, this bundle is still overpriced in my book.

Because the demographic buying the PS2 these days (lower income, young families watching expenses) for $99 is so price insensitive they would readily shelve that plan and fork over another $200 for a PS3, plus $20-30 more for each PS3 game, plus $10-25 more for each Blu-ray movie - if only the PS3 had BC...

SCEA CEO Jack Tretton has been quoted as saying: "the only way to kill the PS2 business is to stop supporting it." Or maybe to sell a BC PS3 for $129. But not $300.
Don't forget that there is a young generation and/or new generation that still hasn't dived into the PS2 brand. Having them buy a PS3 and PS2 (best library ever in gaming) is what Sony's brand is aiming directly for. That is one of the reasons why there isn't BC for PS3 now. It hurts the PS2 brand.

The brand is PlayStation. And I'd say the PS3 (so far) has already done enough to hurt the PlayStation brand (and I have a huge PS2 library; not a MS fanboy).

As someone who hadn't "dived into" the PS1 "brand", having PS1 BC in the PS2 was an added incentive to buy the PS2. The PS1 has a very decent library. I assure you, however, that if the PS2 didn't have BC I would never have bought a PS2 AND a PS1.

I agree the PS2 has a great library (don't know about "best") but "library" is the right word - most of the greatness is years in the past, and you won't find most of those titles in Best Buy, Target or Wal-Mart. The PS2 section at my local Best Buy is mostly bare shelves, and every local Target has moved the few PS2 titles they still carry from the display cases to the bargain racks.

The only thing wrong with the Ps3 was the high price and thats remedied. Not selling a gajillion consoles doesnt hurt the brand it puts the brand on low simmer rather than a boil. But the Ps3 is now going to start selling more consoles consistently. I think its fair to say that Sony believed they would have sold more consoles at this point than they have, the Wii probably wasnt expected to be as large a seller as it was.
Though its not like Sony released a console with a 50%-60% or higher long term failure rate. That will kill a brand over time. At $299 for the Ps3 a lot of people stuck with the option of buying a potentially flawed $200 Arcade or a $150 refurb are going to say forget it and jump ship. Whereas it was a harder decision when the Ps3 was $400+

But thats YOU. I'm talking about the new/younger generation that hasn't had a chance to pick up a PS2 yet and are having their eyes set also at the PS3. There's incentive for them to pick up a PS3 in the future.

While you won't find a huge library of ps2 games in stores like bestbuy , target, or walmart, there still is gamestop/ebgames (who hasn't heard of those?). Then there are other options such as online sites like ebay and craigslist. The titles are availiable, they just have to put minimal effort into looking. And btw, what console do you think rivals the PS2/PS1?

Can we quit bickering about backwards compatibility and the PS2/PS1? This is the Amazon PS3 Slim thread. As someone who just ordered a Slim from Amazon, I keep checking back to see if anyone's received shipping info yet or if there's a solid release date from Amazon. Not for this.

I don't know whether to keep my Amazon order or reserve at a local Gamestop. I just called one locally and they said they were coming out next Friday but their site shows 24th/ 25th. I call another one. I sold my 360 I haven't been playing much for this so the sooner the better.

Looks fine to me. I'd just worry about heat problems, since it's a smaller case. Could be fine, but time will tell.

I don't understand why a mod hasn't cleaned up this topic, and like you I ordered from Amazon and I'm waiting for news.

If anyone has a $75 off consoles coupon and isn't going to be using it, I'd love to trade some games for it: Say, Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii, and Mario Kart for the Wii + Tiger Woods 2010?

I think the 45nm chip should help with this since it will be drawing less power.

Same. Some people like to nitpick and complain about anything.
Same. Some people like to nitpick and complain about anything.
Mainly because we can't be everywhere at once. Someone reported a post in here, I went to check it out and did some cleanup.

Hopefully this will put things back on-track again.

Thanks for taking care of it.

Great deal. I might order a Slim to go with my behemoth 160GB I have now just because it's such a steal.

I can't believe people are still bitching about the price though. If price matters that much to those people, go pick up a PS2 and play games there. Jeez.
Just got an email from amazon. They will be in stock August 24th. With free shipping there is a September 8th expected delivery.
Hmmm.... when did you order it?

Thanks for the info.

my ship date said august 31 in the email I got and that it would get here on september 8th. although the halo wars LE I ordered got here two days after the ship date. so I am going to assume a sept 2nd or 3rd arrival.

Yeah I just got an email from them as well with an estimated arrival date of the 26th. I did choose one day shipping and ordered within an hour after they put the pre orders up.

I have Prime and the expected arrival date is Aug 27 - I am thinking about canceling and holding out for a better deal. I just don't like paying full retail.

Anyone knows what Amazon Free shipping for consoles or heavy items are? I know for games they use First Class mail and I am sure console is too heavy to be used for First Class Mail so I was wondering what it is. One more thing I live in Hawaii and last time I ordered a bunch of strategy guides from Amazon and choose free shipping they gave me Fedex 2 day shipping so I hope they would do the same for me again. Free 2 day shipping is better than paying $25 dollars for 1 day shipping!

I ordered on the 18th and just received an e-mail saying the estimated arrival date is the 27th. I ordered with Prime 2-day shipping.

Occasionally, they'll send something FedEx, though most likely it'll be UPS.

Since you're in Hawaii, they may use FedEx shipping for anything that can't be shipped media mail. Everything I've received from them that wasn't media mail shippable was UPS Ground shipped.

My notification hasn't come through yet, but the estimated arrival date is on the 26th. I imagine I might be lucky and get it by Tuesday, as I usually receive things from Amazon a day earlier than expected.

I ordered on the 19th and did overnight shipping with prime....just got the email telling me it will arrive on the 26th....sweetness...

Placed my order on the 20th and just received an email telling me I'll receive it around the 27th (one day/overnight shipping). :) Pity I'm going to be in classes all day on Thursday, I hope it arrives Friday.

Exactly what I was wondering.. I just moved to Hawaii from California last month and Amazon is great with shipping to Hawaii. Hope its 2 day shipping though, then I'll mos def bite. If anyone chose the free shipping and got their arrival date, would you please post the date? Thanks in advance !

Ordered one today and it says expected ship date is 8/31. Oh well can always cancel if a better deal comes along.

I did order one with free shipping and my estimate arrival date is September 8-14 but that can't really be trusted since they always put a longer date if you choose free shipping tho.

Amazon sent my 60GB PS3 to Hawaii via FedEx 3day (there's no "2Day" to here). In my experience, they've always used either UPS 2day or FedEx 3day for heavy items or more valuable items.

Thanks now I know I don't have to really wait 2 weeks + just to get it haha but there is Fedex 2 days to Hawaii from Amazon. I ordered numerous stuff from Newegg and Amazon and other big online retailers and they shipped me stuff with Fedex 2 days before.

I ordered mine the day after it went up for preorder and it's also giving me the date of 8/31. Lame.

Ordered mine on 8/19 and selected free S/H, and my email says:
"PlayStation 3 120 GB"
Estimated arrival date: September 08 2009 - September 14 2009

Go Figure.

Yup, that's my story exactly. I wonder if they're not getting a lot, so we're in a 2nd wave already?

Same here from Amazon.

I also pre-ordered from Kmart the morning before the announcement. They said would ship 8/24 but gave no arrival date.

Yeah.. I just ordered with FSSS, since there isnt any 2day option with Prime to Hawaii and it said estimated ship date is 8/31. Sall good in the hood. Cant wait to get my second, and sexier PS3 :)

I canceled my gamestop preorder, and ordered the PS3 slim from amazon to save $25 on tax. I ordered it last night(8/21) with 1 day shipping, and the email is showing an arrival date of 8/27.

Get it through Amazon if you can. Look what I just got re my pre-order from K-Mart

Dear Kmart.com Customer,
Thank you for shopping at Kmart.com. Unfortunately, demand for the item(s) that you ordered was so great; we do not have any more in stock. Consequently, we are not charging your credit card and canceling the order for the following item(s):

And I pre-ordered BEFORE the gameCon announcement. Looks like we are facing a PS3 Slim shortage. Wonder how high the ebayers will bid these things up.

FedEx 2day to Hawaii is actually 3 business days. They don't call it 3day, but that's really what it ends up being. UPS 2day to Hawaii is true 2 business days. I dunno why FedEx takes that extra day.

I see, that makes sense. We always get the short end of the stick when it comes to shipping to Hawaii.

just ordered estimated arrival Aug 28 with 2 day shipping.. pretty sweet that the $30 trade in coupon worked on it. So net cost after gift cards $26 :)

Best Buy also has the PS3 slim available for pre-order for $299.99.

All along I was under the impression that reports were "ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and EXTREME problematic posts (threats, fighting, explicit pornography)." Thanks for clarifying.

i have one of the BC MGS 80 gig models (and absolutely love it) swapped out to a 500 gig drive, else I'd be all over this.

actually - for those talking about 'memory' (actually hard drive space, which is different), you can easily swap out the hard drive with any SATA laptop drive (this doesn't affect warranty or anything, it's a feature). I highly recommend picking up, say, a 500 gig drive from newegg (under $100 nowadays) and never needing to worry about space for game installs/downloaded games/demos/media/etc.

Prices on drives only go down, too. Point is, I wouldn't use the size of the hard drive it comes with as a huge factor in buying a PS3, since it's so easy to upgrade yourself.
