Amazon: Complete Sonic the Hedgehog Comic Encyclopedia pre-order $9.49

Really tempted to get this since this is the cheapest of the video game books that I want.

Still trying to find money for the Hyrule art book, Valkryia Chronicles 2 art book, the Sonic History Book, this Sonic Encyclopedia, and one probably more I can't remember at the moment.

This makes me wonder if my old comics would be worth anything. Have something like #0-50 at least, all in slips and stored in a proper box. Growing up was such a good time to be a kid ha.

I highly doubt it. Modern comics usually aren't worth much unless they have rare variant covers, which Sonic never did. Plus, they Archie Sonic comics are kind of considered a joke in both the comic and gaming communities because of all the teen angst and wildly varying art quailty. But you might be able to get some if you find a fan. And it didn't get really bad until a bit after issue 50, somewhere in the 70s I think.

Yup sonic comics are usually in the discount bins at comic stores. Not really sought after.

Don't listen to these 2 posts. There are very few people who now more about comic values than me. The early Sonic comics are worth $$$. As a rule of thumb any issue below #30 is worth $10 or more if they are in near mint condition. The earlier the issue, the higher the price. Look on ebay at completed listings. You will have to list them individually to get the highest value.
Sonic comics are valuable especially in high grade.

Here is a lot of about twice the number you have that sold for a nice amount http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONIC-THE-H...Comic_Books&hash=item25718ba882#ht_849wt_1054

If they are high grade and these were not you can probably get more for them.
That lot was like 80 comics for $260 so like $3 per comic. Not to mention that's on ebay where some noob is trying to ask for cover price of the comics.

I guarantee my comic store has a bunch of those comics from that lot for 50-75 cents each NM condition bagged and boarded. Sonic comics are the red headed step child of comics.

If they are low numbers, you should buy them. They are worth money. I pull $30 books out of the .25 bins at comic cons because people don't know about them or because they think they are a 'joke' comic.

Getting cover price for moderns in reader grades is a great price if you ask me. He isn't going out and buying them he just has them. Might as well cash in if he doesn't want them. They are far from worthless.

Oh word, and yeah they'd be near mint since I took care of them and only read each once. Was just curious if the early ones would be worth grading and displaying, but it sounds like they didn't appreciate to those kind of levels. Fairly certain they're all first print as well, because I was constantly riding down to my store whenever the new issue was out.

Issue 1 can fetch around $100-$300 if it gets a high grade (9.0 or better) from CGC. You can get an onsite grade at a comic convention from CGC for $25. It would have to be flawless to bother with grading though since even if it is graded you would have to recoup the grading fee. If you have a local comic shop or friend who collects they may be able to give you an idea if it would be worth grading. I hope that helps.

I actually sold a fairly beat up End Game saga (47-50) for about 40 on eBay. Some Sonic comics are worth money, honestly.
And I'm not sure about the CAG's seeing Sonic comics for .25 each. If that happened, those would fly off the shelf in my area. My comic shops have told me it's extremely difficult to keep older back issues in stock.

It's not the best photo in the world, but I just cracked it open to inspect and the only visible damage is a slightly worn top-left corner and a dent in the cover toward the middle top.

I actually have two copies of the first issue for some reason, but the other one is pretty worn and might not even fetch a good rating I'm guessing. Just from what you see, do you think it might be worth grading? There's no creasing anywhere and no spinal damage. There is some very slight tearing at the bottom of the issue, but only on the inner pages so I believe it was a manufacturing defect. Not sure if that affects value though.

Sorry to take this OT ha, but I've never really had any plans for these before.

Its a $5 dollar comic here is a VF for $25 again though that's because that's just someones asking price. In a comic store it would be in the $5 dollar bin for issue #1 and as far as trade in value comics stores probably wouldn't offer you a penny. This is also in 30 seconds of research. I could probably get this book NM for under $10 shipped from other comics sites.

Ugh, well I thought it would be neat to display it if it was worth something but I guess with even one flaw the value plummets. That copy in the picture looks about as flawless as mine, but the dent would probably kill the grade. Learned something more about my comics today though!

I agree. Sonic books are hard to find in my area. Barbie comics are also difficult to find.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. I remember collecting these when growing up... would always snag the newest copy or a Goosebumps novel when I went to Walmart with the grandparents, lol. Good times, as another said, growing up.

Still have quite a few of my issues, although, only the more important ones are stored safely...

Lol, haters be hating. I've seen enough completed auctions and spoken to a few shop owners to know that saying Sonic comics fill the .25 boxes is hyperbole.

Eh, I probably would have liked this when I was younger. Honestly stopped reading the comics a little after issue 50. Quality took a massive dump in virtually every department. People complained about the Sonic games having his friends and too many new characters being introduced? Ho boy. The comic has the games beat. Especially considering how they tried explaining the appearance of humans when they adapted the Sonic Adventure storyline. Yeesh.

Comic covers and the actual artwork also got progressively worse. Think the only "Sonic comic" I'm looking forward to is the one with the Mega Man crossover.

My kids have borrowed a number of those sonic comic books (I mean, books of comics) from the library, and they own a few, and they are the crappiest quality imaginable. If you look at them funny a page falls out. Given the price of this one, I imagine it will be just as crappy.
