Amazon cuts PS3 price $40 - Currently $360

Some of you guys have been talking about imminent price drops since March. Until it actually happens it'll just be talk as far as I'm concerned.
I am not a sony fanboy. Okay, that being said, I hate to hear the complaints about the PS3 being overpriced. It is not.

Lets compare the 60 GB 360 with the 80 GB PS3.

360: $299 MSRP + dvd player + $60/year XBOX LIVE + $100 Wireless Internet Adapter = $460 for ONE year if you take it online

EDIT*** Than the elite starts off at $399, the same as the PS3 80 GB

PS3: $399 MSRP + interior wifi + blu ray player + DVD player = one time fee of $399

That being said, I own both, and enjoy both. However, ever since my PS3 purchase in November of 2008, I have boughten 30 games for it (meaning I am really enjoying it, and that I have a massive backlog)

Both consoles have their positives and negatives, but I hate to hear people say that it is soo overpriced.

The 360 may have started better, but sadly for Microsoft and the 360s avid followers the PS3 looks to take the cake again this year for the better game lineup.
Agree completely. I too have both and all it took for me was the 360 to red ring on me once to ditch most of my guys and strictly purchase on the PS3 moving forward.

Very tempted to get rid of the 360 if the right deal comes around so I can get another PS3. The only thing my 360 is being used for is Rock Band.

I'd like to get a PS3, but considering that most of the games I'm looking forward to are only on 360 or PC (Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2) or multi-platform I can't say I'm drooling in anticipation of a PS3 price drop. Until Heavy Rain comes out there's really nothing exclusive to the PS3 that I'm fawning over.

I currently co-own a Wii/360 with my brothers, and own a PSP.

To be honest, I've gotten all I can out of the 360 at this point. I want some of those sweet PS3 exclusives. I'll admit: I was a Nintendo fan who fed right into the Wii. I spent hours waiting in line for it. I still regret it.

I'd rather have 360/PS3 at this point. On another note though, the PSP was an impulse buy. I'm probably gonna sell it and put the cash towards a PS3. (It would be an easy decision, if not for the fact I -really- want to play Crimson Gem Saga.)

But if the PS3 Slim debuts at $300 like is rumored, then I'm basically sold. Because we all know -some- retailer will package it with a $25/$50 Gift Card or discount on Black Friday.

At $300, the PS3 is starting to become a competitor, price-wise. Wii Controllers, if including the price of Wii Motion Plus, are now ramping up to $80. Since Wii Sports Resort is supposed to be something to carry the Wii's line-up, it also means Wii Motion Plus is basically required.

I'm not paying $80 for a controller. Period. Beyond that, the Wii's line-up -really- needs to improve. The only game in the forseeable future that I'm interested in is Super Mario Galaxy 2.

With the PS3, there are -so- many exclusives that I'd like to get. (MGS4, LBP, UnCharted 1/2, InFamous, and more.)

Well I am saving my Amazon. $75 + $75 deal for the PS3 as soon as it price Drops Next month, to $299.

$300
-$75
-$75
=$150 PS3 for Me !!!!!!!!!!

You all remeber a few weeks ago Amazon had the Craziest Trade in Deal Ever. Trade in $75 worth of Junk game,... Liek a Bunch of the $10 ones BEST BUY Sold in March, which AMAZON bought back for $19 each. For a Total of $75, then AMAZON will match the $75 as long as you buy a Console.

hmmm....looks like there will be a ps3 price drop soon. i already have the 80gb mgs4 ps3, but my sister is looking for one.

i'll be kinda disappointed if the rumored slim is cheaper and has bc. i bought my ps3 last year and the cag in me is saying i couldve waited a year (had i known)...oh well.

Those coupon codes for $75 off console expires this month.

Waiting for the same deal myself, otherwise it's going to waste and I'll buy more Nongshim noodles with my credit.

If the PS3 Slim does go for $300... and -is- Backward Compatible... I will cry tears of joy.

Blu-Ray, PS3 Games, PS2 Games for -cheap-. I'd be in heaven.

2. Haven't we heard this story like 1,000 times already. About the Blu-ray features, the wifi... blah, blah, blah

3. Sony fanboy statement

Just admit you are a Sony fanboy
Yet you are in a topic that clearly has PS3 in the title, enjoy your countless RRODs and friendship with MS costumer service.
Havent had a bit of trouble, its worked perfectly. I paid $50 for my 360 after selling the game that came with it, i think i will survive whatever. You can keep paying for your bloated game console, ok...

They are both good systems and both worth having. (I have 360, going to get a PS3 if the slim comes out along with a price drop.)

However, I will admit, PS3 Exclusives seem more enticing than that of 360 Exclusives. I'm itching to play LBP, InFamous, Uncharted, MGS4 and others.

LOL, I have already paid for my console once and don't need to pay a yearly fee for the privilege of playing online. You are still in this topic, why?

Yes But I plan to return/rebuy and get Amazon to Price match.

Because the PS3 Price drop to $299.99 for the 80GB system with No games is already in the Best Buy computer system.

It will Drop to $299.99 right before Madden 2010 comes out on August 18 I think or right around there.

dont toy with my emotions
Then don't buy it, it's that simple. I'm pretty sure the first round of 360 buyers didn't "ask" to have their systems be complete pieces of shit (but you should know what you're getting into at any time that you're paying Microsoft for something), though later buyers definitely should have been aware of this.

I happen to have just bought a 360 (turns out my buddy is the killer app for that platform and I want to play FIFA online with him) but have had a 60GB PS3 for 2 years that I paid $400 for. Now that I have the 360 on the way (and I do feel dirty about buying something from Microsoft) I've been looking around for some games to pick up for it and there's basically nothing. It's really kind of amazing how big the deficit is on exclusive titles. I thought maybe I was just being a PS3 fanboy before, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If cost is your only deciding factor and you don't care about exclusive games, a semi-comparable 360 costs $300 for a much smaller hard drive and you have to pay $50/year just to play online. Whether or not you want WiFi or the Blu-Ray player or whatever is irrelevant. In two years you're paying the same for the hardware and will likely have to RMA the 360 at least once in that time. Arguing that the PS3 is over-priced at $400 while buying a 360 for $300 and paying for xbox live is not only disingenious but moronic. Plus on top of that you do get WiFi if you at some point want or need it and you do get the high-definition disc player, which unless you're pirating all of your video content or so blind that you can barely see the television anyway you'll eventually want to have. Because DVDs look pretty crap on any decent HDTV.

Maybe you just like xbox better, that's fine. But it isn't cheaper. Total cost of ownership (TCO) is actually higher on 360 and you're missing out on the vastly superior PS3 exclusive line-up. Sad day for you, but if you're going to cry about the price because you want one go do it to your mom, maybe she'll give you the money if you cry enough. But maybe not, since she already bought you that 360 that you don't play.
I don't have a 360 either. They're BOTH too expensive because of all the extra crap that comes along with both. I don't have any "next-gen" system currently, but the first one that I get will be a Wii because it's cheap because it only plays games, which is all I want out of a console. Won't even play DVDs, which I think is great; saves me a $20 licensing fee.

The point of this thread is that price drops are exactly what need to happen to BOTH the 360 and the PS3 to get people to buy them. Not keeping the price the same and beefing them up in this constant dick comparison contest.

you do know that the 360 is $50 cheaper then the wii and is far superior hardware wise, and that the wii has little to no good games at all?

The Arcade unit is gimped, useless if you want a collection of XBLA games. It doesn't even count, in my book.

And yeah, I have 13 Wii games so far and 23 360 games (all bought at $10 prices thanks to CAG, in anticipation of owning those systems someday). I will have all 3 systems someday. I wouldn't say that there's no point in owning a Wii. There are other titles to add to that 13, but I just haven't come across amazing prices on them yet.

The other factor is that my current TV is only 720, with no HDMI. If I picked up a 360 or PS3 now, it would feel like a waste with this old TV. Need to upgrade first. Not only is the Wii the cheapest right now, but I'd already be using it to its fullest.

Sweet deal. But I'm still happy with my PS3 + extra DS3 + 2 games + 2 Blu-Rays for $375. After owning a 360 for 2 years, I can already say I enjoy the PS3 a LOT more.

Don't really want to get into a political discussion but "imminent" in price drop terms and "imminent" in global climate change terms cover a hugely different amount of time. People have tried so hard to read Sony and predict their strategy and at this point enough people are just taking random guesses that someone will predict correctly.

"It'll be at the end of the fiscal year!"
"It'll be at E3"
"It'll be in August!"
"It'll be just before christmas!"

It'll happen when it happens.
