AMAZON DOTD(9/4) - OZ Seasons 1-6 $94.99

If you haven't been able to find these at your local Wal*Mart for $20 a season, this is a great deal to pick up. (Even if you have found them at WM for that price, it's still $20 cheaper here) Be warned though, the DVD format changes for season 4 (or 5, I can't remember which) to dual-sided discs as opposed to the standard one side labeled ones.
 
Thinking of picking this up as a blind buy. What would you guys compare this to?

Some of my favorite shows include:

The Wire
The Shield
House
Deadwood
Rome

Also, how would you compare this box set to getting the individual seasons? Am I gaining or missing anything by buying the set?
 
the set for sale on amazon is just the individual season packages in one bundle.
there has not been a COMPLETE SERIES rerelease yet.
The advantage of picking this up now would be to save cash.

I havent really watched any of the shows you named. I would compare it to Homicide: Life on the Streets. Its pretty gritty and real. Decent character development and pretty good plotlines.

Oz was a great show, very adult, very prison. I would recommend it. Thanks OP, I think I am going to bite.

exactly. I tried to watch this show but didnt get very far(3 episodes i think) because it is not dumbed down enough. I just dont have the stomach for the prison rape scenes.

edit As for rating the prison rape scenes, they are worse than the scenes in "american history X" and shows like "prison break" but not quite as bad as the prison rape scenes in american me.

I had to shut off "american me" after about 20 minutes.

there is plenty of blood n guts in the shield, deadwood, and especially rome(all of the body parts flyin') and it is comparable in OZ, but the thing that stuck with me for Oz was the prison rape scenes, sheesh i mean the first show had the nazi buttraping the little lawyer. Not that he didnt deserve it, but still

It's sold out.

And the scenes are very... out there. I didn't follow the show a lot, and missed at least the last season, I dropped HBO, but good show.
 
Could someone please walk me through where I can find the DVD DOTD? I know how to get to the VG one and I tried doing that with the DVD's but I can't seem to find it.
