F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
I tend to disagree, DS is very eastern in nature, from is a japanse dev, if that's what you mean.
Maybe I should have said "Western styled" then, as that was my intention. Meaning seemingly more focused on an open-world, customization of character and most importantly realtime combat oriented.

I myself prefer DS. I played the KoA 60 minute full trial and in that time it just didn't hook me. Combat seem fluid and fine, but the overall atmosphere was not my thing. I steered clear of DS for a while due to all the "this game is brutal" talk, but with the price point dropping, I finally bit and glad I did. DS I feel has a much steeper combat learning curve, but I also feel it is forgiving in that maybe only once did I feel I died a cheap death (and I died A LOT). If you want a Mass Effect type story driven RPG (I LOVE Mass Effect btw), DS is definitely not that, but that is fine with me.

Dark Souls:

* Story: relies heavily on atmosphere and nuance to create a sense of presence and mood, not overt.
* Combat: tactical, slower, steep learning curve.
* Equipment: mechanistic customization, not as randomly driven.
* Key feature: rewarding challenge.
* Extras: cool multiplayer element, dark, mood environment to roam.

Kingdoms of Amalur

* Story: beats you over the head with fantasy tropes.
* Combat: stylish, fast paced, not much thinking involved.
* Equipment: random loot system with crafting that overshadows it.
* Key feature: lots of (generic) fantasy content to explore.

I'll be honest, I kind of hated KoA after a certain point. It was fun at start, but quickly got kind of monotonous and boring. The experience doesn't evolve much over time, and most encounters feel very similar. The setting is extremely fantasy generic and in particular the elf-type people have some really bland, indecipherable quests and themes that just didn't catch me at all.

Dark Souls is a better game by a lot IMO.

I haven't played Dark Souls, so I can't really say anything there - but I really enjoyed KoA. I played that game for 80+ hours over the course of a couple weeks. By the time it was over, I was ready to move on and didn't purchase the (apparently great) DLC for it. But I do plan on playing that some day.

I really enjoyed the combat. The story was (as others have said) "meh" - but alright and I was not a huge fan of some of the NPCs.

The one thing I can complain about was that if you step foot in a zone/area the enemies in that area scale to your level and lock in at that level. This would normally be fine - except for the fact that sometimes a quest would have you take a step in an area you'd previously avoided without you even realizing it. Then, by the time you made it back there, things were waaay to easy.

I still heartily recommend the game. That's how much fun the combat was. :)
Tony you should make mp3+ season pass for 19.99 :)
Didn't Amazon do this for the BF sale? Don't see why it wouldn't repeat.

I own both KoA and Dark Souls and they are both great for their own reasons. I'd honestly say the biggest difference is that DS is so hard you'll have to go through it slowly. KoA is actually pretty easy in comparison. Regardless they are both full to the brim with content so you'll have plenty to sink your teeth into no matter which one you choose.

There's no wrong choice imo.

Agreed.

You can do what I typically do when I'm on the fence about a purchase decision...get both. ;)

That's the wiser advise one could get. I'll be using it with "honey, the kids will love the games"

Just tell her it was a "bundle" and Amazon forced you to get both. :whistle2:\"

LOL

And buy a couple sonic games to complete the "kids bundle" ... And everybody happy. Merry Christmas!

I just bought the Bioshock Dual pack but Bioshock doesn't seem to have a button to show the activation key. Bioshock 2 does have a visible key but it's not a steam key (it's probably the GFWL key). So any advice as to where I can get the steam keys from?

Looks like Amazon matched the GameFly price and put Max Payne 3 at $14.99 with the Season Pass at $7.49, but yet the Max Payne 3 Complete Pack (Game + Season Pass) is listed at $89.98. Maybe Tony will clarify more on it when he checks the forums.

Repeat deals are based on performance of their test runs :).
Just curious, but what does Amazon typically do with the editor's choice games in the new year? Additional discounts?
In short...

Yes.
In short...

I guess my real question is, if I have a $5 coupon, is it possible that Crusader Kings II could be had for less than $10?

Yes. Especially if a 75% off Steam sale hits at the tail end of their Winter Sale. It's all a gamble. No one can give you any definite information. Moreover, the coupons are valid all January so you have to factor in Amazon price matching weekend/mindweek deals.
Did steam just try to match amazon's sale on Darksiders 2 but forget to include the season pass?

TONY WINS!!! FATALITY!
I think all the DLC they listed is what is already included in the Season Pass. Correct me if I'm wrong because I would love to see a Fatality, Babality, and possibly a Friendship of my wallet to the Amazon deal.
Anyone else notice the ArmA2: Combined Operations 17.99 price is live, even though it's dated for tomorrow?
Is this Steam Redeemable?

Greenman Gaming now offers steam keys for followimg capcom games

Hi Tony...

About Pricematching: I suggest you to use the OP to put a section about them.

Is really hard to find them.

Regards.

Pretty sure he can't broker a deal with Capcom to carry their games in a week.

yup you were right. called them up, got a refund and now im going to purchase the correct version
I bet no other retailer beats that deal, and it is still a newer title.
I'll take that bet seeing that the other big THQ bundle (Tantalizing Medley--was $9.99 just recently) just dropped again on Amazon. I should say, I'll take the bet that it will either be cheaper shortly on Amazon or Steam, etc. will beat it with a similar deal. Especially since Steam basically already matched it.

You might be saved by the holidays almost being over.

OK, I misunderstood, people frequently pit western Vs eastern when it comes to RPGs.

I'm actually happy that you managed to get over the steep learning curve, this is how we played games decades ago, literally, I'm having such an absolutely great time with it, reaching 50 hours by now and for the first time in ages I have had to claw my way over each and every step of the game.

Regards.

Tony,

do you think amazon will get bethesda games in the near future? I don't mind waiting a while to get them but if you don't see it happening next year, I may just pick up a few of the rpgs come this winter sale.

thanks again for all your hard work. ohh and them hamsters too of course!
I just noticed the Darksiders deal. Sorry if its been asked. If I get the pack, do I get keys for each? (like, 1 and 2 separately)
Each item is a separate key.
