Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Crap - I miss'd this, too. :(

Wherever it is/was.
A couple times this month Ubisoft was giving away games through their Uplay application/site itself. It wasn't very well promoted or structured, and keys tended to only last for a couple seconds. Oh well, I guess I will eventually pay money for it like some kind of plebeian that spends money on things. Woe is me.

Tony's playing favorites with the p/m's, this is one game I know he enjoyed. What about CC Ultimate !!
The only PMs we've seen for the EC price that I'm aware of have been to Steam. I don't think a single PM to another site has been made.

I may be wrong, but I know I put in the PM request for TSW and that was done in ~20 minutes. Absolutely nothing on the multiple requests against Gamefly and Gamestop.

Grrr fml I finally get my amd never settle code and far cry blood dragon was taken off the promo. That's the second game I purchased an amd card for that was removed before I could redeem it (SR IV was the first)!!!!

Ok so how is everybody else's day going?

Ummm... buy the GPU for the GPU...

Well, looks like GMG answered my LEGO prayers. Both Harry Potter games for $3.75 and Batman 1 for $3.75 and Batman 2 for ~$5.
Edit: The Lego HP titles have been $4.79 before at GMG. But still those are great prices (not sure what the coupons were back in 2012.)

These may be repeat requests... Only a few off the top of my dome. I'd easily jump on some of the others I saw requested.

Skyrim DLC Dragonborn - $9.99

http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Dragonborn-Online/dp/B00GXHJJWE

Far Cry 3 Deluxe / Blood Dragon bundle - $9.99

http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Blood-Dragon-Bundle-Download/dp/B00GJ1WM7S

Endless Space Gold - $7.50

http://www.amazon.com/Endless-Space-Gold-Online-Game/dp/B00DUHRKLM
How did I forget about Endless Space, I'd be down for that too. Again, I forgot to add Bioshock Infinite Season Pass too. $5-7.50 ish would be hot.

there's no rhyme or reason to whom Amazon will match. Gamespy and Gamestop are not international site but Amazon remain silent on matching their $5 Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection despite a few ppl on CAG and Reddit asked for it
There's a reason I don't comment on those Gamefly and whatnot requests. It's Amazon's policy not to PM international sites. It their perogative to or not to PM others.

How's The Secret World.. I haven't played any MMO in a long while and don't really feel like spending months on one but if the game can be fun to play thru for a few weeks then maybe it could be a nice pick for about $5.. especially considering there isn't much deals getting my attention so far. So my question is.. is it the kind of MMO you need to grind for months to get somewhere and that's gonna ask for me to spend xtra cash in-game to enjoy or can I play it and enjoy it the same way I would enjoy a single-player for 10-20 hours ?

Thanx for your inputs guys.

It is the second. You can pretty much solo a good chunk of it and there's no requirement for any crazy grinding. I just don't know if you can complete it in 10 to 20 hours.

Sure, they can do whatever they want, but it creates confusion and frustration for customers, why claim to p/m and then do it so inconsistently. Say you have the best price and follow it up with actions. I understand the why of not p/m CC because it's on the EC list, but if thats the problem then say no p/ms are available on EC items. The picking and choosing is just annoying.

The problem is so many people have the attitude that Amazon must price match every requested PM from GS & GF...

Awesome. Missed the Microsoft $5 sale and wanted another copy. Now MysterD can finally pipe down about getting TSW for $5ish.
Uh-oh. I'll call the Whaambulance.

Do you like the world created in TSW? If so, get it. There's well over 20 hours of SP content.

The only confusion is really self created:

Amazon.com will price match eligible purchases of televisions and cell phones with select other retailers, including those who sell their items on our website. For all other items, Amazon.com doesn't offer price matching.

So knowing their policy there is no confusion. Amazon doesn't price match so don't expect it. If they do price match something, be pleasantly surprised and happy about it.

What kind of DRM does this Whaambulance have? And if it's not 75% off gtfo.

Not that I don't disagree, but Amazon hasn't really been inconsistent. They pretty much PM anything Steam that isn't a flash sale of some sorts and pretty much nothing beyond that. There may have been an odd straggler here or there, but it's pretty much Steam or nothing when considering PCDD. If I happen to get a PM on something I want other than Steam, great. I also know that if something is on GameFly, for example, that I want to get it from GameFly as Tony has openly said many times.

Before this sale started, someone asked and Tony said you could get a free game by using the credit on something that was $5 or less, I remember that. Just saying.
QFT

It was on reddit...

Q: Can I use a credit on a game that costs $5 or less? (Get the game for free?)
A: Yes, the credit will work on items that cost $5 or less, making them free.

Well in that case thats just more reason to purchase it from the alternative retailer and stop making Amazon the primary go to for games. Personally because I have a lot of Amazon credit from BB transfers and Amazon trade ins I'd prefer not to do that, but now I've been edumacated not to expect p/m's I will change my mindset and stop begging as now I know it's just wishful thinking. Anyone reading these threads however would be convinced game p/m's were a normal thing, especially when its stated so often that Amazon do not p/m international sites, may as well just say Amazon do not p/m, they just change their prices when they feel like it.

The HP games and first Batman should be $3.75 right now. $5 w/ 25% off coupon.
Right, that's why I said they were $4.79 before the coupons before. This is probably the best price to date (and why I picked up HP 1-4, 5-7 and Batman for these prices.)

Still waiting for Batman 2 and LoTR to drop to that $4.99 range before coupons though.
