Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

This has to be one of the worst digital games sales in the last years.

Good luck with next years sale! (If you are still allowed to do such an event)

Isthereanydeal says that The Bureau comes with $10 credit, but it's not mentioned on the game page.

Can anyone confirm it?
That was from the old preorder offer.

Thanks for your insight on the matter. Much appreciated. Anything constructive you can offer that can actually be acted on?

IMO, Paradox hasn't devalued their brand so much as trying to expand their user base. I enjoy their games and due to sales, I own almost all of them. They are making sales to me that otherwise I would have bought without playing previous games. As for EUIV, it was 9.99 in the past if I recalll correctly, on the Humble Store, end of December.
Yeah, truth be told the strategy market is a PC niche, that is really seperated into alot of smaller niches. I usually do Fallen Enchantress type stuff (fantasy), but I would have never really even bothered to look into any other type of non-fantasygame Paradox did if it wasn't on sale, like the WW type games.

Even if it was an exact FE clone but with WW theme. I generally stick to my genre/theme unless it's extremely cheap or bundled.

I own several Paradox titles. Their game designs are unique and interesting but to buy their software at launch is a huge waste of money. my experience with them is that most are broken or buggy at launch (i.e Gettyburg Armor Warfare) or worse loaded with tons of DLCs (i.e. Magika) or the support just drop after the initial cash grab (The Showdown Effect)

I usually just wait until they fix their "beta" game release & buy at a cheaper price

I'm playing Warlock: Master of the Arcane. It's interesting and I'm liking it. It's not quite an updated MoM (which is something I'd love to see) but it's close enough to be quite fun so far.

BTW, Newegg is having a 2k download sale with some decent prices including BL2 for 5.39 after a %10 off coupon (5.99 before.) Coupon is the search code in this link (it comes up on the page): Newegg

Edit: I submitted PMs for NBA 2k14 and X:EW, btw. We'll see if anything happens.

Try Eador: masters of the broken world. It is fully patched by now and is really great. Is basically Eador Genesis, but with better graphics and some changes. If you loved MoM, you'll love Eador.

Agreed. Their Quality control is really lacking. There are some Paradox published games that aren't buggy as hell, but that has more to do with the developer than any sort of QA on Paradox's part because they have put out many truly buggy messes as well. Some of them get better with time and some of them don't.

They also release a ridiculous amount of DLC on some games and have a tendancy to push out these multiplayer only games that are almost always DOA.

At this point I consider them bargain basement bundle material and not even the top tier of the bundle, more like the extra stuff that you get but don't necessarily want.

They do also have the niche of complex strategy games which have their fans so there's that, but to say they aren't user friendly and have a steep learning curve is a bit of an understatement.

With having a huge backlog Ain't Nobody Got Time For That.

Oh and their stuff goes on sale way too much. I feel ridiculous complaining about that, but really if you need to have your games constantly on cheap sales and in bundles then just lower the damned price or make it F2P.

Warlock is an awesome game. It's basically Elven Legacy (same devs) on a huge map with lite 4x elements rather than being campaign based. Sequel is out in a few months. So getting that.

Newegg's digital 2K sale is pretty interesting. BNW for a bit under $10, bit under $9 after the 10% off. Still not as good as GMG last month but if Newegg could get these prices then goddammit Amazon. Or 2K. Or whatever it is that's managed these games to not be in the sale.

Thanks for your kind answers my friends.
Hey. Don't you (yourself) think your post was ridiculous? There have been way WAY worse DVG sales in the past few years. I think you're just upset because you haven't found many games during this sale to your liking. I didn't find many deals to my liking either and will probably have over 20 coupons left. However, there were some pretty good deals though... Marlow Briggs, Bioshock Infinite, Max Payne, to name a few.

Damn you for making me regret missing another bundle! Wishlisted.

It is curious how some publishers seem to be patronizing every online retailer besides Amazon with the best deals. I wonder what gives.

they dont want our cag money maybe or maybe they being jerks like ******** is

2K could be getting a bigger cut from NewEgg if NewEgg is trying to expand their digital games division or 2K might have only given NewEgg a fairly limited number of sale keys, etc.

Or Tony made the 2K guy mad by stealin' his woman.

I've got it and will play it soon. I already had Warlock installed from card farming before I found SAM, so I went with that one instead of really making a decision for which to play first. :)

I am liking Warlock, but I have noticed a couple of issues. The first is that when I alt-tab out and then try typing in a window, I've suddenly got the slowest computer in a world. It's like one character per second. That's ridiculous when the game is just idling and I can't think of a single good excuse for it. The other is that in-game sometimes it just...hesitates between turns for a few seconds. Nothing terrible, but certainly annoying for both.

The only Paradox game I'd played before this was Magicka and that was similarly broken (on top of being a bad game, IMO.)

Damn you for making me regret missing another bundle! Wishlisted.
Yeah, I missed it as well. Got it for I think $5 with the other Eador game a while back. Not sure now, actually. May have been less. It was just 4.99 on Steam a few days back, I think.

That's not a paradox issue. As a card idler, I've noticed several Steam games do it. I can't remember most of them off the top of my head but Grid 2 does.

Also, Magicka is epic fun local co-op.

For those who got Lords of Football, Gala Store has the DLC on sale now for $.95 which you can bring down to $.70 with Gala points.

http://store.indiegala.com/index.php/active-discounts.html?limit=30

The training DLC in particular is a good deal because it normally retails at $5 and it's only half off at Steam at the moment.
Thanks! I immediately snapped up the Super Training DLC because that one adds game activities (though I wasn't willing to pay steams $2.50 for it (50%) off. I don't watch/follow football so the USA (seriously?) and Eastern Europe DLC looks pretty meaningless to me.

Thanks Motoki! Picked up the training DLC too. I'll wait for the Euro and US ones to hit 75% off since their just cosmetic DLC.
Yeah I was fooling around with the game last night and you can edit your team name, colors, logo etc to be whatever you want plus there's apparently workshop support if you're lazy and want to download what other people made.

That being the case, the only practical difference is that USA and Eastern Europe are in a different "league" but even if you play the US DLC the voiceover at the beginning says something about trying to be the top team in Europe.

The training DLC does look fun though in a Sims Medieval sort of way. Not $5 fun but 70 cents fun, sure.

Plus it gives you an excuse to use a tiny bit of your trillions and trillions of Gala points.

You get Gala Points by buying the bundles directly. I get a ton because of all the group buys I host. I used to use them to enter the giveaways, but their giveaway site tends to just be extra keys from their bundles which I already have since I bought the bundle.
