Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Dark souls will probably stop working decently after june 2014, so keep that in mind if you're buying it.

This is due to the GWFL drm not being removed by the developers who apparently are too busy making Dark Souls II.

Very nice additional deals there, Tony!

I'll be grabbing some spares, stocking stuffer and such!

I'll also probably have some extra EC coupons if anyone needs one. Just PM me.

It's up in the air. The official word is that Namco is "still exploring options." Giving how popular the title is still, and that when Dark Souls 2 releases they could potentially see a small resurgence in sales, I'd be surprised if the didn't do something.

Given all the talk here about The Secret World (and that it was one of my EC purchases that I still haven't installed), this seems relevant:

Funcom stock delisted in norway, company under investigation

Hopefully it won't impact their ability to keep the game running...
And this is why I don't like DRM and also the "always online" factor of MMO's b/c you wind-up so dependent on their servers and what they're doing. You aren't relying on what YOUR PC can or cannot do. If something happens to the company and nobody ever cracks the DRM of finds their way around things - you have yourself nothing but memories. :(

This is even more so true especially, since you can solo a fair deal of TSW; and b/c it has such a heavy emphasis on story-telling, voice-acting, dialogue, writing, and other things.

I'll be sad the day TSW gets the plug pulled.

Though, I would love to see someone implement an offline-only mode.

The lack of player notes would be the biggest drawback imo. While I like them, it's not a bit deal.
I've always felt player-notes & the bloodstains for seeing the online ghosts (to see how players died) were one of the really cool aspect of the game.

But, yeah - I've played it offline when I've had issues for G4WL; and I'll be just happy as long as the damn game works.

If it does get Steamworks implemented, hopefully that'll boost sales and # of people actually playing the game. I'd bet some people won't touch the game b/c it has that crap-tastic G4WL.

Be gone w/ you, G4WL!

I'm kinda new here, so sorry about this n00b question, but when do the sales go up?  Or did they all sell out already?  I can't find the Enslaved+Inversion bundle and Dark Souls is still listed as $30...

This sale has been amazing. Enslaved + Inversion is an instant-buy for me as I don't own either. After that I'll be left with 1 coupon which I think I might use on Lords of Football, or I might buy my brother Dark Souls as I already own it.

Started with 9 coupons, ended up using all of them and loved every single deal I got. I can't speak for everyone, but at least for me, this sale has been an amazing success.
I think since the GTA Trilogy sale recently, this EC Sale has really turned itself around for me.

It really began to turn itself around for me this past Sunday, I think.

Enslaved deal is going to be too sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Huh, turns out I don't know anything about Astrology other than that I'm a Leo lol.
Fellow Leos, unite!

Not quite. Joystiq jumped the gun there a bit with that 'journalism' that didn't site sources beyond "However, a large number of developers remained quiet about plans, so Joystiq reached out to get the official word on what the future may hold for their games past July." i.e. you are taking the word of the person who wrote the article without knowing exactly who they contacted, what said person's role is at that company and if they are informed and authorized to speak for the publisher as a whole.

Namco Bandai must have noticed because they quickly made Joystick backpeddle from "will update" to "exploring options", which means they still have no flipping clue yet.

This is also why people shouldn't go spreading things like this around the internet as fact that aren't sourced and cited well. It may well come to pass eventually but reposting hack journalism like that article without pointing out the correction (and it was made within minutes) gives people the wrong impression. :shame:
I have some experience with this and I can tell you what probably happened is that the author, Steven Wong, most likely sent an email to the PR contact person from each company in the article to get an "official" response, and nothing more. Each publisher (and some developers) has a primary PR contact for internet media and, should you find yourself on one of their contact lists, they will make themselves well known to you through tons of spammy emails.

You guessed correctly - lazy journalism. It's very easy to misconstrue comments taken from an email. The internet is full of novice reporters.

Well considering the Inversion keys have always been reported region locked, any way for Tony to provide worldwide keys? This strikes me as perfect - http://steamdb.info/sub/14586/
People should consider themselves lucky that Amazon doesn't enforce the US only sale Policy of the games. Instead of looking at the few Region-Restricted games as a bad thing look around and see all those mega-deals that people actually grab from outside the US without being bothered about it.

Exactly my thought.. if they don't do something about it I'm pretty sure they'll get a shitstorm of angry people and that wouldn't be the best timing for their new release.. Dark Soul 2.

Still, at least they said they were looking into it.. not like Capcom leaving us in the dark with no idea if something will be done for many of their titles.. SFighter IV, SF x Tekken, Resident Evil 5 and more.

Yeah, Dark Souls and Enslaved/Inversion are going to see me use the last of my 2 vouchers.  It's really picked up at the end, this sale, with me grabbing Bioshock and LA Noire/MP3 earlier.

Now I don't feel so bad about buying Aliens CM (which was awful) as its voucher proved to be needed.

I have to admit I'm pretty surprised he talked Namco into that package for so cheap.  Kicking myself over Dark Souls as I bought it over a year ago for like $12 and still haven't really played...

I already used my last coupon on the Kain bundle. If anyone has a spare coupon and can grab the Enslaved bundle once the sale goes live, I'll pay you an extra buck or something.

For what it's worth, Funcom's stock is apparently listed again, possibly because they're cooperating with the investigation. The issues are financial (read: insider trading), and not directly related to TSW or any other game. Worst-case scenario is still the same as it's always been with Funcom: are they actually making enough money to pay their bills and keep going, or will they go the way of THQ? That question has nothing to do with the investigation.

I'm really surprised that MS hasn't stepped in with any GFWL shutdown clarification....
They've apparently informed their customers. Their customers' customers are a bunch of dirty console-averse heathen who didn't embrace the GFWL platform, though, so fuck 'em.
