Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

That's just the way Amazon's system works. It always will try to apply the most generic promo credits first.

I ended up preordering an item to temporarily use up the $10 GC from The Bureau. Then I placed an order for XCOM Collection. After that, I cancelled the previous preorder to get the $10 GC back into my account. Annoying process, but it works and I've done the same before.
Pretty annoying, but your work-around worked perfectly for me. :)

Amazon's credit system really is weird. As a test, I checked what would happen if I tried to buy a Borderlands 2 Season pass, it ended up adding 4 different credits. No idea what they're all from/for.

It would really be nice if Amazon had a central place to show what items you still have credit for. Someone may say "contact Amazon support and they'll tell you", but I've had mixed luck with them when it comes to telling me my credit, and it's just not worth the headache.

Otherwise, I love Amazon. :p

There's at least one other person in this thread who hates our credit system. I'll give you a hit, he's got a furry dog.

I just asked an engineer to fix this manually so it applies the $59.99 first but it'll likely be 24-48 hours until they fix it.

Cheers,
Tony

My dog's not exactly furry, but I'm not fond of the credit system either. Mainly because it would be nice to know which credit is for what (I'm at like $540-something according to the balance page. I know that a lot of that is probably free-to-play credits that I'll never use, but it would still be nice to know what it is.) and how they apply to things.

By the way, the $5 promo credit arrived this morning at about 7:45 EST. Upon arrival Amazon got themselves another Arkham Origins pre-order. ;)

So, I gave in and "pre-bought" Saints Row IV (PC) last night on Amazon barely beating the midnight deadline for the $10 Amazon credit & DLC goodies. I would've gone the digital download route but I had $10 of non-digital download credit to use up.

I think it's safe to assume the latest $10 credit is going straight towards Batman Arkham Origins (PC Download) sometime in September.

Tony, is there any way you could sweeten the pre-order pot even more than it already is? ($10 Amazon.com credit, Playable Deathstroke DLC, + Mortal Kombat Arcade) /heavy sarcasm, but I wouldn't complain w/ more incentives before October 25th. ;)

I'm doing a big post mortem on the effectiveness of the incremental $5 coupon we added to the 7 pre-orders this month. If the numbers pan out we'll likely be doing it for all pre-orders, which would include Batman :).

Cheers,

Tony

just hope there is a preload for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist ...

the files is huges ~ else got to wait another day for download after launch ~

:)
Chances are the game is not going to take up the 25gb the info states. It will most likely be much smaller. If I had to guess I'd say more around 15gb and even that sounds like to much to me.

And if it's going to take you 24 hours to download 25gb I feel sorry for you. That's some crappy speeds. :)

I was thinking of a particular episode of The Norm Show: a classic TV program starring Norm Macdonald, a wiener dog and, to a lesser extent, Artie Lange.

Didn't have much success the last time, but I'll try again one last time.

Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection is on sale on Origin until 27th of August for $9.99 as part of a gamescom sale

https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/c-c-the-ultimate-collection/pc-download/bundle/standard-edition

as well as on Gamstop/Impulse for $8.99

http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/command-conquer-the-ultimate-collection/104614

Any chance of a price match on either of those?

http://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-Ultimate-Collection-Online/dp/B009IR1SR0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames-download&ie=UTF8&qid=1377071817&sr=1-1&keywords=command+conquer

I pre-ordered Saints Row IV and XCOM Declassified, but I think I only got the pre-order credits for XCOM. Do we only get it for one game, or have the other credits not been awarded yet?

BTW: Very much enjoying Saints Row IV so far.

Need to get this re-added to the OP. We don't match Origin.

Hey man,

You should have received all your SRIV stuff. Are you just missing the $5 credit?

If so, please send me your order ID and I'll get you sorted.

If you're missing something other than the $5 credit, include what you're missing in the PM as well.

Sorry again about the delay.

Amazon has not previously price matched pub site sales such as Origin. Used to be in the OP FAQ, but I guess it didn't get transferred to the new thread.
This.

Cheers,

Tony

Alright, cool. Didn't know about that. I guess that's a no on the gamestop/impulse match as well?

EDIT: Or does that mean generally no match on games that activate on Origin?

I'm pretty sure all's good with me. Gmail can be a pain in the rear when two emails come in that are practically identical, so it didn't show me the 2nd one.

I have so much credit I don't know what to do with all of it. :p

Yeah, I'll post later today. It's an Activision DOTW though so this crowd probably won't be as excited about the deals.

Cheers,

Tony
50% off Deadpool would make me happy. :)

Which makes me think it will instead just be the same 10-25% off "deals" that Activision normally trots out.

Thank you for the Shogun 2 price adjustment, Tony!

I nominated you for [customspoiler='MORE']Most Outstanding Rep Ever[/customspoiler] awards.

Thanks, Tony.

On the subject of price-matching, I was actually wondering something. When it comes to price-matching, whenever I only use the on-site price-match request, it never seems to get matched, even when it is a typical Steam sale that should qualify. It seems like the best thing to do is ask you directly in order to get it done. I was just wondering why the on-site method doesn't seem as effective in terms of actually getting things matched?

You sure it wasn't Valve? ;)
Locking away Amazon's rep, messing with EA's Humble Bundle, planning an announcement tomorrow at Gamescom that they're requiring every product on Steam to ONLY be sold on Steam...

Quick, somebody send this information to the news media before the black helicopters come to take me away! ;)
