Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]

Trade dat shit/return

Typically i use consoles just for exclusives nowadays

Everything is (usually) cheaper and better on PC.

You may want to research to make sure there aren't any weird issues w/AC4 (just to be safe), I think i remember hearing AC3 had some performance issues

Personally, for new games I tend to try to find a really good deal on the console version, play it, and then trade it in.  This is for games I don't see myself playing more than once.  For something I might play over and over or revisit or has good MP then I might lean towards the PC version price being the same.

But you could trade the 360 version in for some credit if the price difference isn't big.

Also, what is the meaning of your name pasports31? I always took it as a misspelling of Passports with the assumption someone took the correct spelling, but then with the number added I'm beginning to think maybe it is PA Sports 31?
Believe it or not, this has been my avatar/screenname/everything since 3rd grade, when it was my aol chat name. It means PA (pennsylvania) sports 31 (my bday is jan 31st).

Although I never should have changed it from my first one, which was moldyskid, which stood for "mulder's kid," (I was a huge xfiles fan), with the added benefit of my 2nd grade spelling making it seem like it was actually moldy skid.

Pretty tempted by this ACIV deal even though I've never played an AC. I've had ACII for almost a year now and still haven't played it.

But I want it anyway. :(

The issues Ive heard about Creed 3 is why Im being cautious. Was hoping someone picked up the pc version today had any feedback
Best off looking on Steam forums. Apparently ACIV is a much better game than III, only real downside (if u call it that) is lack of a challenge, too easy (no difficulty settings). Look for TB's WTF on AC IV imho

So is that Star Trek $3.75 going to happen? :D... or in that bundle?.

Ummmm isnt Inversion region locked or something? (might be wrong game im thinking of)

Tony,

You gotta lock up a hamster or two in a room and not let 'em out till they've given us a way to search our download library. Maybe give them some water or something but for that, we'd also want a proper digital wishlist !

thanks for the sale

looking forward to the dec/jan sale storm...

Me too. I only own AC1 thought, never played it and probably never will (My computer is too good to have DVD-drive).

But Splinter Cell Blacklist was -75% only two months later and ACIV might be too, so I'll just wait.

Hell if you don't mind U-Play/non-steam versions you could pick them up for pretty cheap from people buying Nvidia cards.

Oh, you REALLY don't know what you're missing. ACII is one of those games that are just about universally considered must plays.

Amen - ACII is amazing. Such an improvement over the original in so many ways, I don't know where to begin.

AC2 + ACB are my favorites so far, of the AC franchise.

ACR is last AC I've played.

I do own AC3, but ain't got to it yet.

yeah, ac1 was fuqing terrible. not even a good game...acII was such an improvement. legitimately good...acb i think was the best tho, of those 3. Haven't played revelations or 3, but each one of those was reportedly a step down. Want to play IV so bad

I want to play AC4, but not at its current price + knowing there's a Season Pass out there.

Also, I do want to play through AC3, whenever I do decide to play it - since I finally got it.

Tony,

I probably missed this during the Black Friday sale but did you do/are there plans for a Far Cry Franchise pack?  1, 2, 3, and Blood Dragon... all Steam, of course~

I don't think Amazon DVG sells a Steam-version of FC3: Blood Dragon....

You get it over the amazon sale?

I have revelations, I want to play that soon. I've heard some dreadful things about AC3 though. Unless it's in an ubisoft bundle, or i can get glitch pricing, I probably won't get it ever. The AC games never seem to go below 5 bucks each....don't want to spend 5 bucks on a game that has a history of PC issues and one of the longest, most boring tutorial/introductions in the history of gaming, purportedly

Assassin's Creed II had emotional pull. It wasn't just a good game with an interesting plot with solid game play mechanics to back it up. It was genuinely fascinating time period/place to explore and the characters (even side characters) were well acted and interesting as well. But what still puts it even more head and shoulders above it's peers is the fleshed out world and emotional investment it manages to demand from the player. It's why I fell in love with RPG's. The only other medium that can create such a deep link like that is if you are reading a novel or series.

Relationships require time. Mostly because it is usually through strife and hardship the greatest bonds are made due to the time to work through them and time required for recovery from them (war buddy's for example, they went through Hell togehter, and only they truely know what each went through). In fact the strength of any relationship cannot be ascertained until it has been tested. The greater the obstacle to overcome and the more potential risk of what's at stake for failure shows the strength of that bond. Usually only RPG's have enough game time to create that, but ACII did so in a much shorter span of time (game time). I find the games that make the most impact of me are the ones that affect me on a personal level (Earthbound, Assassin's Creed II, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy X, etc.). One of the greatest games ever made IMHO.

While I agree that AC2 was an improvement, I disagree with your first assertion. AC1 was the intro for the free-flowing movement of the series, and for just that aspect was incredibly enjoyable. Running through the street, bouncing up onto a roof, and then leaping off with just the hope of a soft landing spot was exhilarating. Climbing the tallest buildings and towers for waypoints remained fun and interesting throughout. Much of the stuff around it--overland travel, say--was pretty bleh, and the side mission collectable stuff, outside of viewpoints, was not able to remain interesting--but that core gameplay was strong. It provided the skeleton that would be so well fleshed out by AC2 and ACB.

meh

it was awesome for like an hour or two, then you realize you're going to do the same 3 or 4 things for the rest of the game

the only good things about that game were the environment and the free running

combat sucked

traveling sucked

mission variety sucked

plot was dry as 8 day old shit til the last 15 minutes of the game

there were zero interesting characters

It was a game that showed a lot of potential, but when it was all said and done, it just wasn't fun, imho. Potential doesn't make a game good

ACII was ACI once it fulfilled it's potential

Edit: Tony, just wondering when we should expect the bonus credit to show up in our account. I checked mine after purchasing a few things on the 21st, and the 10 dollars of credit I was supposed to get showed up right away. However, I bought 2 things on the 26th, and the credit is still not in there. Just wondering if there's a delay sometimes. Thanks!

I'm not quite as down on the rest, but yeah, those two things were far and away the best aspects of the game. The game could have shipped with no story whatsoever, just an environment you could run around in, and it would have been fun. But, yeah, AC2 does all the other things much better as well as having an awesome environment to run around in.

I bought AC3 PC on GameFly (for download).

I had a 75% off that made it cheaper than Amazon DVG - made it like $5.62.

EDIT:

ACII was ACI once it fulfilled it's potential
Amen.

this has been my avatar/screenname/everything since 3rd grade,
That's awesome! My full username is too long and stupid after creating it in middle school, so I abbreviate to LN. (Although in hindsight, it sounds too much like Ellen. Would be clever if that were my name. But it's not. Wrong gender as well. But I digress.)

I would likely buy enslaved by itself for 4.99, let alone in a bundle (albeit potentially up to 7.49). Greatttt great value. Sign me up x 1 million

Between this past sale and the Super Human efforts of Tony the Terrific, it's getting to look like Amazon >>>Steam nowadays. Keep it up[/quote]I would pay 7.99 for a Star Trek/enslaved bundle. Enslaved alone for $4.99 would be great also.

Word, I've always said that AC1 was basically a tech demo for AC2. I almost feel the same way about the improvement from AC3 to 4, it's so much better, but not to the extreme degree that 2 was to 1. 3 felt half assed and incomplete, I was very disappointed. 4 is my game of the year, it's superb.

I played those 30 hours in 4.5 days and then had to leave town, been in AC4 withdrawal ever since, I need it in my veins.

I'm jelly. I've only been able to squeeze 336 hours of total life out of the past two weeks. You've been able to devote roughly 5x that to a single game

Edit: Who's that lady in your avatar btdubbs?

Reon Kadena. I know because I wondered the same thing a while back (his previous avatar was also her) and used tineye to find out who she was... because of.. reasons.
I only wanted to know because she looks intelligent, and I admire intelligence

Among other attributes

Edit: Thanks - a quick google search has provided more images from which I can admire her intelligence
