Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Why are you linking there? That's a CAG original. In fact that's a copy-paste of an early rev of my posts, as stated by xanchui (thanks for crediting!).

Hi, Tomb Raider is listed at 50%. Any chance of getting a better (time limited? ) discount?

Thanks.

Regards!
Maybe, my vendor manager just told me he's updating Square deals and that some of them have gotten better, both the limited time ones and the shorter, deeper ones.

Also,

Looks like we're going to have Metal Gear Solid Rising for Pre-order tomorrow at 33% off ($19.99), there's still some final emails floating back and forth but I feel confident enough that it's going to happen to update you here.

That actually looks pretty cute, but I prefer Mahjong on my phone.

1/1/2014 to 1/3/2014 Batman: Arkham Origins - $23.49 $19.99
12/24/2013 to 12/26/2013 Batman: Arkham Origins - $23.49 $19.99

Correct?
Correct, thanks :).

Cheers,
Tony

Tony did u see this?
I did and meant to reply. We're matching the physical product on that particular sale, and it looks like they are matching best buy.

If you're interested in the game at $29.99 I'd snag it now, we won't have it lower again in December (at least nothing planned).

Cheers,

Tony

I might need to break my 75% off AND $5.00 rule, and get The Secret World.

Or should I wait for at LEAST $7.50?
I'm not sure it has ever hit $7.50. I guess it will or be F2P one day, but I bought it for $12.50 this time last year and I think $10 is the lowest it has hit not counting one time at band camp when I put a flute in.... and it was $5 on Greenmangaming (but there was a monthly sub fee at the time).

Throw me your email and I'll send you a guest pass to try it out, might help you decide one way or the other.

Technically is F2P (arguably, I know). It's not likely to drop further, as there is so much content being bundled in right now (specifically, the Massive Edition), they are drawing a hard line where they went to selling subscription issues at the chang-over in subscription charges. There's tons to due without dropping another red cent on the game past what you buy the base game for. They might make a "massiver" edition to come in a year or so, but even with trying to increase user base for the game, it damn sure isn't going to be $10 for all that premium content. Remember, each issue goes for around $10. This is one game however, that you really do want to sub to for the quality of content that comes out of it.

It's really more the subscription-less model where you pay for content expansions (and unneeded perks) -- similar to Guild Wars 1/2.

I associate F2P with being painful unless you're regularly making some sort of purchase. I want to play a game, not make continuous financial decisions.

I really like The Secret World's and Guild Wars revenue model. Path of Exile is another player-friendly F2P model (cosmetic purchases only).

I haven't seen the original series available on any streaming service. Amazon and Netflix both have bits and pieces (maybe 10-20 serials altogether) and I'm not sure what Apple has on iTunes, but I doubt it's much more complete. Personally I'd rather just buy a DVD when I can afford it, though, because the BBC loads them up with a ton of special features, including commentary tracks, subtitle info tracks, Radio Times listings, scripts, new documentaries commissioned for those releases as well as rare appearances by Doctors on other shows and archival interviews.

Skyrim made me late for work today. Stupid labyrinthine Dwemer ruins!
I haven't seen a full roster of Classic Who anywhere either. But that's kind of my point -- if I'm going to buy Prime for streaming, it needs to offer me something that the competition can't.

I buy the full-season Blu-Rays of New Who, because my wife loves it and we enjoy the extras. But she's never gotten into the original run, and I can't justify paying The Beeb's ridiculous prices for individual DVD episodes. (Over $24 for Inferno? That price should get me the entire season. Seriously, BBC, just no.)

I watched Spearhead from Space (the first Jon Pertwee serial) via Netflix a couple weeks ago, and the wibbly-wobbly-oldy-timey bug has bitten me. I want more, but not at highway-robbery prices. So if Tony tells the Prime crew to go get an exclusive streaming license for Classic Who, I'll bite. Immediately.

Nope, they are all there. The Tennant Christmas specials are the first episode of the following season, the end specials are their own category and the Matt Smith Christmas specials are their own category for some reason.
Thanks for the correction. I was comparing "Prime seasons" with "Physical media seasons", and a lot of stuff is in different places.

Wow on Lego Marvel at $11.99. But then again the others did drop fast too.

We have money set aside in the steam wallet from trading cards to get it at the steam sale (did not see it on flash/daily deal in autumn) but for $12 from amazon... wow.
Hooray, I get to post something on-topic! :)

I bought a physical copy of Lego LOTR a year ago at launch, so I could put it under the Christmas tree. By the time it got unwrapped, I'd already bought a second copy at $7.50 for my own Steam account, thanks to the Amazon Holiday Sale. I held off on Lego Marvel at launch this year, hoping for another great holiday price. (Now, if I can just get confirmation that this price will be repeated in the EC...)

Some search features on amazon need work, i find better links in this thread than on the actual site, it is strange.
If you go to Amazon's website to buy a specific item (where you already know the product name or enough details to nail it in a search), then Amazon is a fantastic resource. But if you're not sure how to describe what you want, or if you just want to browse, the UI becomes an obstacle instead of an aid. Targeted search great, fuzzy search not so much.

Tony, would you happen to know any details about Metal Gear Rising's release? Mainly the release date, and what's included in terms of DLC. Thanks!

Just got the updated info from Square, your $5 Tomb Raider prayers will be answered :).

I'll send out a full update on the SE stuff as soon as I have it set up.

Cheers,

Tony

Any word if DLC will be included or how long it will be on sale? Thanks.

The only problem is even if they did get the streaming rights, they wouldn't have much more than they do now since a lot of the Classic Who episodes are still lost.

Commander Conquest of the Americas has a Steam and non-Steam version but I see no Steam version of the Pirate Treasure Chest DLC?

I need my pirate stuff on Steam!
