Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Losing the license shouldn't mean they can't still sell the game that was already made. That's the part I find stupid.

That's like making a movie with an actor, and then a year later the actor saying "You know, I don't want to be in that movie anymore, so stop showing it, and stop selling DVDs of it."
The thing is they're probably losing money on each of those sales.

When I buy a copy of Deadpool, a certain cut goes to Activision. In exchange for allowing their IP to be in Activision's game(s), the company pays a fee to Disney/Marvel either per game sold or per year, depending on the agreement. The fee paid to Disney is regardless of Activision's cut that they take at the point of purchase, which is bad for Activision when these games are discounted heavily. However, with games (like Deadpool) that perform poorly at retail, this is often the only way they are sold and Activision ends up paying more to the license holder than they take in from sales.

Licensing works both ways too, and Disney might be valuing their Marvel properties higher in the new year. Either way, Activision doesn't see continuing this agreement as being profitable in the long run, and they would rather not sell the games and avoid the fees, than sell the games at a loss.

I want everything in all of my Amazon wishlists (physical and digital) to be on the EC list for $5.01 pre-credit (see I'm being reasonable) or else I'm gonna throw a tantrum so large it'll be labeled it's own event called BitchFest (tickets available at TicketMuster) and CS will have to silence me by offering every item in their catalog at 99% off for a year, including adult diapers.

\LIKE.

I guess if this happens, maybe Metro: LL can be ONE penny again like BB once had it. ;)

Anyone heard anything about XCOM getting any more expansions/DLC? I am almost ready to bite on the Collection+EW for $20 total, but my CAGness says wait.

Just got an email from Amazon saying they're refunding the $33.74 they recently charged me for Tomb Raider that I bought in February. I know a couple others had the same issue so you might want to check your email. I was happy with the $5 credit so the refund is a nice surprise.

Amazon CS. Always amazing.

Any ideas whether we'll be getting Fast & Furious cheap soon? Or Family Guy and Ice Age too. Cheap is $5-10 or so ... I saw people commenting on TMNT above, I stand behind that too.

I think Enemy Within might be the end of it, but I can't say for sure. I'm waiting until next winter or until 2K announces a sequel. Looking at how long Civ 5 was putting out DLC I think it's always safe to wait.

May your CAGness be strong.

yeh but they get taken advantage of alot
by asshole and only time i use it from them was i fuck up last winter on wrong stragety tho theey havent done anythign or give me damn answer on thee keys that i couldnt use cause thye said that dont know 2k wont say anything bout it ccause i use my old order key that i was scared 2k tell steam to get rid of the keys so i didnt want to lose thee rights to it lol

I thought Tony got Sega 48-Game Pack Steam keys last week. I guess we'll just have to keep waiting

He said that he thought they would have keys by Thursday implying the day after Christmas but also said he would tell us the moment they had keys. No real update since then other than him saying they still don't have keys a few times.

Know most regulars probably have it, so it's open to lurkers too:

Scribblenauts Unlimited:

9RR08-???7J-VXBJ7

???= file extension most of us use 7zip to unpack, and it's not .zip but the other popular one... Happy New Year! Hope folks had a better day than I did (and it was not due to last night's libations). Just always make sure to give your friends and families love whenever you can, especially if they live far away and you're lucky enough to see them. Best to everyone in the new year.

Cheers,
beaster

I guess this means they need to add Pack 5 to the offerings. *Please*

What?? That's bull.

I mean, congrats I guess, but that's still bull. Not on you, since as you said you're not the one who complained.

Yeah, because people are big whiners.

Total bullshit. People intentionally made the purchase, they played they game, they should accept the fee instead of acting like some crime has been made against them.

TMNT and Family Guy, could be nice, but F&F god no, wouldnt even buy if it was 5$ pre coupon. i rather pay 10$ for alien cm, then take this for free.

Incredible isn't it?

I guess we should all complain about not buying it months ago and see how Amazon compensates us for that missed time in-game. I sure hope they rescinded the $5 credit they gave to people now that they handed out refunds.

Honestly, the audacity of some people will never cease to amaze me. I teach and I doubt even my students in their most selfish of moods would act like some of these 'adults' complaining about being charged for a game they bought and played.

Oh well, another point scored by the morally (and apparently financially since they couldn't float the cash for a game they agreed to buy) bankrupt.

I just bought Castle of Illusion on Amazon and when I enter the code on Steam it says not valid. I hope CS gets back to me soon because this is pretty lame.

I was having the same issues, was just now able to successfully redeem some keys, so give it another shot.

And why are you in such a hurry? A true CAGer knows the game will just get backlogged anyway!

Shouldn't we all be CABs by now?  Cheap Ass Backloggers.  Cheapy D better check to see if that domain is available.

I actually beat it in around 3 hours. I'm so shameless.

But you know we need to SEE the game in our backlog ;)
I don't enter them into steam until I incorporate them into my wall of backlog. In corporate all my serial numbers into a mural on my wall, and I when I beat a game I make it's serial number look like razed ruins. It's my way of trying to come to terms with my backlog. Well, that was how it started... just one wall back then...
