Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

So, anyone wanna buy me Final Exam on Friday from Amazon for a Birthday Present?

It seems fitting since FInal Exams will seem to haunt my life for the rest of my foreseeable future.

Thanks, and bought!

From all the good things I heard about this game, it must deserve jumping to first in line in my backlog.

To everyone buying Brothers (kind of sounds wrong), it is highly recommended to use a controller to play it.
This will also be free for PS+ members sometime this month (January), FYI. Anyway...I'm hoping Defiance goes on sale as part of this deal. I missed out on the giveaway but would still like to get it (for cheap). Especially since TSW doubled in price (and continues to fluctuate).

I have a Beta key for Elder Scrolls online.

I already have a beta account and just got an email with a code. It says if I already have an account then to discard it.

SO I am going to discard it here :)

It runs from Friday Jan. 10th at 6pm EST to Sun Jan. 12th at 11:59pm EST.

If someone want's it PM me (I know this will be a mistake) and I'll respond back with code and where to redeem it.

If your reading this 1 min after post please don't PM as it will most likely be taken :p haha

Cancel .. sorry guys .. it's the same key  as I already used in past. Thanks to Motoki for that info.

Excellent.  Another brothers sale here.

When it said not available - I had flashbacks to the Paradox mega pack sellout!

Meh after all the shenanigans Humble is pulling lately I think I'd rather just grab games on cheap sales even if that means I lose a dollar or two. The horrors! I know.

I just have to decide if I want to pay $2.50 to get it on Steam or just wait until it's a free PSN+ game of the month.

Lol I'm awake, I've been heads down on projects and meetings all day unfortunately.

Everyone say "thank you Sepioth", I wouldn't have seen the miss if he hadn't PMed me to answer the questions above.

The match should flow through soon, I just approved it.

Cheers,

Tony
Awesome.

What about Bioshock Infinite and Xcom:Enemy Unknown? Gamefly has those at 9.99 and 14.99, respectively, before their 20% off coupon.

FYI I checked and the code is the same as the old one they sent me before that I already registered. So when they say discard it, they mean it's the key you already activated if you are already in the beta, at least that was the case for me.

Really, if they were giving out new keys and told people to disregard them, well, you know what they would do anything but.

I think I'm just gonna wait for it to be free on PS+. It's a short game, I might as well.

Oh no!  I'm now sales taxed by Amazon.  The first time is always the most painful.  And a little piece of my soul dies...

Ill have to look ... cause the email also said that the old ones are no longer good if you havent redeemed it yet.

Crud ... your right .. ohh well .. sorry guys :)

Thanks for the heads up Motoki ..

Why is everyone freaking out over a price match on Brothers? Just to save $0.50 over the price it would be on 1/9?

Seriously, that's ridiculous..

Wait, you're surprised people are freaking out over a 50 cent saving? How long have you been on this site again?

Did you forget where you are?

I would definitely expect a bunch of cheap ass gamers to freak out over two quarters.

For what it's worth I absolutely adored Brothers. Yes it's more of an "experience" than a traditional "game", but it's an extremely poignant and beautiful one in the vain of something like To The Moon or Journey (although you probably haven't played that, being a PS3 exclusive). If you aren't turned off by the minimal gameplay, it's far and away worth that price and then some! Two of the best hours I've spent with any game in a very long time.

This is my GOTY. I got choked up just explaining the ending to my wife.

Thanks, I picked up Crysis 2.

I see some talk around here about PSN .. I'm sure you probably all have these but here .. I'll never use them.

Velocity - M82R-3NNT-QNR3

A couple of thing most customers don't understand (and they shouldn't because most customers don't work in the video game industry) are:

1. Most devs/pubs just aren't ready to talk about January deals in November and December, primarily because alot of the decision making around what deals to include in January and for how much is driven by how sales in Nov/Dec look.
Would this also explain why the first wave of deals seem to just be reheated Christmas sales, with an extra $5 bump to counteract the EC coupon? Are the publishers who bother to respond just saying, "Yeah, you can put them on sale, I guess, but don't undercut the December price"? If that's the case, would there be any benefit to sliding the Editor's Choice promo back a week or two? I wonder if publishers would be more amenable to sales once they've had a chance to digest the existing sale numbers.

He must cringe...a lot.
Working PC Sales for EA must be a pretty thankless job, both internally and externally. Like being the kitchen manager at a casino, or in Zune sales at Microsoft. It's not the primary business focus, and the people involved in the primary business just don't care all that much.

EA guy, why are so few of EA titles on the PC anymore? Coming from consoles its shocking to see its bee been going on "forever" it seems... With the coding for consoles being so close to PC now can you let the power that be know that there's clamoring for more EA titles? (Looking and seeing that none of the Army of Two series has been on PC is... Well, disappointing for someone who really enjoyed the series and who has likely bought his last console.)
I'd like to see a return of the sports titles, too. Even if it's just once every few years or so, with room for mods to fill in the gaps.

I don't think they've pricematched anything from Gamefly in a long time (not worth the effort according to Tony), but I could see Brothers getting pricematched since it is on Steam for a couple of days at that price.
For generic price-matching opportunities, Tony probably has a ton of data to back up that claim. But if Amazon were to price-match Gamefly on items already on the EC list... well, I can pretty well guarantee ONE sale right now. :)

thanks for bitchfield 3

The $5 EC coupons are a joke right now. Sure Amazon I'd like to take $5 of $50 for Mass Effect 3, which is under $10 once a month

What shenanigans? care to explain?

This isn't working :whistle2:k Who do I see about a refund?

silly you - if you'd done your homework, many have posted in the forum that you need TWO sticks. So go grab another one and try again...

CAG is probably the only place I'd respond to the "same deals but $5 more comment", here goes:

Crysis 3 was not bumped $5 in price

SimCity was not bumped $5 in price

Brothers was not bumped $5 in price

The Ace patrol bundle was not bumped $5 in price

Bioshock Infinte was not bumped $5 in price

None of the Sims stuff was not bumped $5 in price

The Bureau was not bumped $5 in price

This list can continue. The counter to this list is a bunch of stuff that may or may not have gone up $5 in price depending on who we were price matching, or what deals we're focused on pushing. This is no different than any other sale where there are often stand out deals and then deals that people ask questions like, "why is this thing cheaper if I buy it in a bundle".

What I've noticed in all of the "these are all just $5 more expensive" comments, is that what you mean is "the specific things on this list that I want to buy are $5 more expensive than I could have purchased them previously for.

As for the content of the first wave, they seem reheated because Take 2 and EA are almost always down to provide good deals that we can include in sales, they are super responsive (meaning we hear from them sooner than everyone else), etc.

Hope this helps clear up some of the misconception. Let me know if I can answer anything else about this.

Cheers,
Tony

Screw 2K Sports. Sure, they made a good football game almost 10 years ago, but their NBA franchise has been far more stagnant than Madden. Plus, they treat PC gamers as 2nd class citizens with cut content and absolutely non-existent support.

Thanks for clarifying but are we still scheduled to get a discount on Sims stuff during the month? I saw them on some preliminary lists but they aren't in the first post.

is the brothers game really only a couple of hours long? someone on youtube said they finished it in 2 1/2 hours. Yeah it's cheap but I don't know if it registers enough on my cheapometer for a couple of hours.

The Sims stuff was on sale for the did two days, it's supposed to come back but no one knows when. Check the OP for more info. It will be updated when new sales are announced.
