Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points

Agreed.

If we're talking GTA series, for me - it's all about GTA: Vice City.

That was my favorite one, by far.

And yes - SA was awesome, as well. But - never finished that, though.

I still would love to see a Vice City 2.

Really still wanting that GTA5 PC Port, as most of y'all know...

EDIT:

AC1's side-quests of cut-n-paste job for actual quests, character models, voice-action, and whatnot - yeah, that was horrible.

Main quest stuff was good, though - and the reason to play the game.

Also - as always, I love climbing to the top of those areas then doing the Leap Of Faith. I can never grow tired of that.
Agreed on Vice City. It was just great to drive around town, running down hookers, listening to the radio. I'm going to have to re-install and check out that mod you had posted earlier.

I'm puzzled at some people's recollection of AC1's reception. I recall it being noted as a flawed game with an interesting concept. AC2 reviews particularly noting how they seemed to have properly realized their concept this time.
I really liked AC1 but it would be tough going back to it after playing 2. The controlls were much better in 2 IMO, a little less clunky.

Wait - I posted stuff about Vice City mods?

I don't think that was me.

I played both VC and SA years ago - I ain't been really hip on the mod scene for those games. I certainly been bookmarking links people been posting about mods + stuff for GTA 3, VC, and SA though.

The only thing AC1 has going against it is the repetition, imo. It does a lot of things better than the later games, in truth. The series slowly gets more and more scripted. Much more free-form in AC1.
Assassins creed 1 was amazing for like, the first 5 hours. Then it was horrible...the repetition was just too much

I think he's thinking of the Vice Cry mod I posted.

>.> I'd wager In the Air Tonight more accurately sums up the Amazon EC Thread vibe...

I remember when Amazon MP3 had Phil Collins "Hits" album for 99 cents. Couldn't resist - especially since THAT song was in there.

EDIT:

Don't know if it's been posted yet.. looks like no Far Cry 3 sales for this month.

Probably b/c Far Cry 4 will be on sale on Jan 31st. ;)

Yes.

Come on man :(. Posts like this are literally why fewer questions get answered.

All prices are pre-coupon:

1/24-1/31:

Tomb Raider - $8.99

Thief Bundle (Thief Gold, Thief II: The Metal Age, Thief Deadly Shadows) - $7.49

Legacy of Kain Bundle - $7.49

Final Fantasy XIV: $14.99

Final Fantasy XIV Collector's: $17.99

Hitman Taking Care of Business Pack (Hitman, Blood Money, Silent Assassin, Absolution Professional Edition) - $12.99

Cheers,

Tony
:'( @ nothing for FF7+8.

EDIT:

I was like "Hey, nice price on FF XIV."

Then I was like "Oh right, ridiculous subscription fee for yet another MMO."

</3
Bleh @ sub-fees.

PASS.

Some nice deals there... Especially nice that after coupon, Tomb Raider is $1.00 *cheaper* than it was on Christmas day (which I bought then, and am not upset it is cheaper now). I'm also interested in the Thief bundle - some games I've been meaning to play, so $2.49 seems like a cheap way to accomplish that.

Thanks for the update!

That is an incredible Tomb Raider price, that should be noted. Shame I already have it.

Amazing game, too. Even with the shitty QTEs, it's still great. Be sure to tweak with SweetFX to get better performance along with TressFX, though. So fucking worth it.

with games doing things right on the f2p market like gw2 and path of exile, in which there is zero pay 2 win, and the companies are making money. I refuse to pay monthly for mmos. Ffxiv is very successful and I don't see it going away unfortunately.

Some other mmos are getting better about f2p too like eq2 rift defiance and to a lesser extent swtor. There is so much out there these days. I can't believe you could still have a population in a sub base game.

Of course I'm not satisfied, they're basically the usual (and usually incorrect!) claim of the EC games being "Amazon deal + $5." Only this time it's more like + $4 between Tomb Raider ($5 last month), Legacy of Kain ($4 on multiple places, including Amazon), and at that price for Hitman if you split up $13 for each major half (Absolution Professional, the rest) it'll have been topped. If you were fine with Standard, you'd even get it done to the EC price level. Maybe $1 off.

FF7 and FF8, which both have been on sale in the past week in other places? Nope!

Sleeping Dogs, which apart from being on sale regularly is also now free on XBLA Gold this month and was free on PS+ some 6 months ago? Nope!

Deus Ex with its Director's Cut? Nope!

It's only slightly better than Amazon's owns offerings post-coupon. So yes, there's a lot to be desired there. It actually lives up to the price jacking claim.
